FW: Trouble with ACLs
Well, I screwed around a bit and after doing a "wbinfo -u" and a "wbinfo -g"
I stopped getting the "unable to map SID" error. Now I'm getting a
different error. ;-D

Conflict between NT-PDC and Samba 2.0.6
I've got a Solaris 2.6 SPARC system running Samba 2.0.6 and an NT-4.0sp5
PDC system. If Samba is running on the Sun system when the NT PDC is
rebooted it (the NT system) complains that there is already another PDC in
the domain. This should not be as far as I can see as I've tried
specifically to configure the Samba systems not to do this and in fact
prior to upgrading to Samba version

Idmap: How to Map SID to existing UIDs?
Dear all,
I've got a question concerning winbind and idmap. I've been googling for
days and read through the official HOWTO but yet cannot find the answer.
My situation is as follow:
I have a UNIX infrastructure (including NFS) with all user information
stored in LDAP for distributed passwd/group/shadow using nsswitch. I also
have Windows 2003 AD (MYREALM) set up. I want to setup a

Anyone else seeing disk full errors?
I'm seeing random disk full errors when saving large Excel files to a Samba
share. The users will retry and the second or third time (usually the
second time) it will save correctly. This is with version 3.0.21a on i386
Red Hat 9, kernel 2.4.20-31 patched with ACL.

Error building with Fedora packaging
A recent post suggested using the Fedora packaging to get the separate RPMs
to build for Redhat. I gave that a try but am getting the following error
when doing so on a Redhat 9 system:

Trouble with ntlm_auth
Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting ntlm_auth working with the
"--require-membership-of=" option. I did rebuild the Samba RPM so that it
had the --enable-auth="ntlm,basic" and
--enable-external-acl-helpers="wbinfo_group" settings. The command line
test for the squid-2.5-basic protocol returns an "OK". The one using the
squid-2.5-ntlmssp protocol

Trouble with Samba, SCO & HP Jet Direct
I've just installed an HP Jet Direct Network Print Server and configured
our SCO 5.0.2 box to print to it. I can send anything to it as long it's
from the Unix side. Then I configured Samba to share the printer and tried
sending a test page from one of the NT workstations but nothing came out
and I could find no error messages in the log files (even at debug level
9)! The log file just

Using a secondary WINS server with Samba
We are attempting to use an NT server and backup NT server as our WINS
servers on a network with several unix systems which are running Samba. We
would like the Samba systems to register with the main server if it is up
and with the backup server if it is not. I see that you can specify a WINS
server in the smb.conf file but I do not see any way to assign a secondary
WINS. Is this option

Trouble with ACLs
I've got ACLs enabled in the kernel now and I can add and/or remove them
using the unix command line program (setfacl/getfacl). However, there still
seems to be a problem. When I try to add an ACL type permission to a file
(through Samba) I get the following in the log file:

winbind with NSS backend incorrect convert UIDs to SIDs

Server get NSS information from LDAP(OpenDirectory) and winbind get UIDs from NSS: idmap backend = nss
Users authentication works fine. Users can use shares. I can view ACLs, but can't set it.

Question about SIDs RIDs UIDs and GIDs
Hi Guys,
Just a quick one...I use ldap backend for samba users and unix(PAM+NSS)
users. If I was creating a new user/group/computer manually do the RID and
UID/GID have to match up somehow or something?? I mean I've been reading
somewhere that that RID should be somethings like UID+2x1000 or something??
Algorithmicbase?? Whats this all about?
Am I making any sense?
Cheers,

SIDs and UIDs and RIDs - Oh My!
I'm trying to grasp pg. 154 of the "Official SAMBA-3" book by Terpstra and
Vernooij and I'm just missing a critical networking concept.
I understand that SIDs are the numerical identification of a user for the
Windows world.
I understand that UIDs are the equivalent for the *nix world.
But what the @$@! is a Relative IDentifier (RID)?!?
On page 153 the command to map a
