Upgrade to 3.0.2a from 2.2.8a: Was working, no longer works
I moved my original smb.conf and secrets.tdb to a new installation of
MDK 10.0 OE; what used to be a great working system no longer works;
I've checked all the configs via Webmin/Samba/Swat modules, and still,
nothing is working. Either from a windows machine or another linux
machine, no access. I've also made sure all the users were sychronised
(or at least I think I did it right) but

samba 3 mandrake rpms...where is net tool?
I installed the RPMS from samba web site for Mandrake 9.1.
Configuration is weird as things are labeled smbd3 or winbind3...
Testparm runs against /etc/samba/smb.conf yet swat configures the
smb.conf in a different location...hmm....
But really my problem is joining the AD domain as a member server. I
can't locate the net tool.
How is this done?
How does testparm know to test against

Problem saving files from XP to Mandrake 8.2/Samba 2.2.3a
Hi. I am having a problem with Samba 2.2.3a running
on Mandrake Linux 8.2. I posted this issue to the
comp.protocols.smb newsgroup and didn't get a
response. I am hoping that someone here can assist
me so I can avoid getting rid of my linux server and
reinstalling Win2k Server.
I setup a shared directory called SHARED in
/home/shared. /home is in its own ext3 partition.

Samba doesn't ask for a password
Hi,
I installed Samba 3.0.2a (on Mandrake 10.0). I created 2 users on the Linux
box, which I "converted" to Samba users (using de Webmin interface). The
Samba server is running.
On a Win98 I log in (log in the win98 box -- no domain set, only workgroup!)
using one of the users I created. I do not use any password, neither is
Win98 configured to verify any passwords. I simply type in a

Samba printing fails for Windows clients, was working, now fails...
Hi all
The printing via Samba+Cups has stopped working. I'm
using Mandrake 10.0 Official as a Samba server for
file sharing and printing on a Windows network.
Printing from a WindowsXP client to the Samba server
now fails and I don't know why it has suddenly
stopped, it used to work. File sharing still works
okay.
There are on no errors logged on the Linux Samba box,

Samba (2.2.8a or 3.0.2a) + WinXP not updating roaming profiles on logout
I have a linux box running samba configured as my PDC with roaming
profiles. Everything was running great until I upgraded to WinXP
instead of Win2K. Now, when I log out of my XP session, my profile
doesn't get uploaded to the server. The local copy remains in effect
until I reboot. When I log out, the following message gets sent to the
event logger:

winetools rpm for Mandrake (test phase)
Hi,
I just proposed a binary rpm for Mandrake (in a testing phase among
Mandrake Club). I put most of winetools stuff
into /usr/share/winetools/2.1.1jo/ like for Debian. Po files are still
in the binary installation to encourage translations but they will be
suppressed by Mandrake people if in contribs. I included my proposition
of fr.po (already sent to the list) in the binary.

Patch for 2.0.0beta2-1.src.rpm on Mandrake
Damien,
I had to apply the following simple patch for the
openssh-2.0.0beta2-1.src.rpm package to build on my Mandrake Linux system
(see below for patch). Basically, Mandrake auto compresses man pages in
the build sequence (appending a .bz2 extension), so I had to change the
%files sections to find the compressed man pages.
By using wildcards, I expect that this patch will NOT break the

Mandrake RPM's ... addio ?
Hallo all;
I've built the usual Mandrake rpm for R 1.9.1, it will be picked up by
Martyn and subsequently propagate through CRAN in the next couple of
days or so. Impatient folk could also download a copy from a link on my
home page ( web.rossoalice.it/michele.alzetta/ ).
This time I've only prepared an rpm for mandrake 10.0 official, and the
reason is soon told: both my home systems

Installing Samba 2.2.3a on Mandrake 8.1
Hi everybody,
I've upgraded from 2.2.1 to 2.2.3a. I've downloaded the zip file -
unzipped it in /root/tmp/Samba - run "./configure" - run "make" - run "make
install".
Everything went well. Restarted Linux and checked the version in swat. It
still was 2.2.1. Samba was running when I installed 2.2.3a.
What did I do wrong??
Thanks
