printing from W98 to Samba/Cups [repost]
[repost] I've recently set up a TAO Linux box, which has SAmba 3.0.2 and Cups 1.1.17. I have a Lexmark Optra Color 40 Postscript inkjet printer directly attached to the parallel port, and working. After considerable pain I was able to get XP Home to print to that printer (using the 15 step method, as the simple method kept refusing to work). Now I'm trying to get Windoze 98 to print to

Advanced printers shares
Hi Here the problem. I am using samba 2.0.10 on sparc Solaris 8 platform in a Nis env. Currently we have about 100 or so printers listed in printers.conf nis map, these printers cover our 5 sites which all use the same nis env. Each site has one Domain master, and a local master on any separate subnets, as not all is in the same domain. When ours users log into a samba server they are

Drop in NT print server replacement; NT print names and NT share names-how to handle with Samba
Hello samba list members, I am going to be replacing out NT print server with a linux/samba solution. My main problem/question is how will the NT clients deal with the Samba server when the following facts are true. 1. NT creates an NT printer name 2. When you actually share the printer, you can create a totally different share name. For example we have the following printer, (and numerous

Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 fails
Hi, I tried to upgrade samba on a Linux from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0, and after the upgrade the printer sharing fails. I would like to participate in the search for the bug (if it is a bug), but I don't know how to start. If this is not a bug I would like to know why not, and how to work around, that the printer does not work with the attached smb.conf, while it works with samba version 2.2.8a

Problems with SPOOLSS WinNT driver uploads
I've been experiencing a problem with the automatic printer driver download function described in printer_driver2.html under Samba 2.2.5 on Red Hat 7.2. I believe that I have followed the doc correctly and in fact the driver uploads/downloads seem to work if I use a small driver set (like the Apple Laserwriter v23.0) that comes with Windows NT 4.0. The problem is that I cannot seem to

Samba and CUPS driver download
I've set up the automatic driver download as per the instructions in the Official Samba-3 HOWTO. The printers are browseable on the Samba/CUPS server (named Venus in this case), however, when I try to connect to the printer via a Windows 2000 or XP machine, I get an error: "The server on which the printer resides does not have the correct printer driver installed. Setting printer properties with prnadmin.dll (W2k Resource Kit)
Hi, we are trying to set printer properties with the prnadmin.dll from the windows 2000 resource kit. The printers are shared by a samba 2.2.8a, spoolingsystem is Cups. We are using the windows drivers to process the job, the queues are set as raw-queues on cups. For some models[1] setting the properties via a dumped file works without any Problems. For some other printermodels[2] it

Can't connect to a win2k system.
I've been using samba for sharing files on my Linux box. This works quite well, but I'm having some problems accessing a share on my Win2k box: pink:/home/miller/samba/bin# smbclient -L hyperion added interface ip=192.168.1.3 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 timeout connecting to 192.168.1.2:139 Connection to hyperion failed (BTW, nmblookup hyperion fails, yet smbclient resolves

rpcclient enumdrivers 3 times out on NT drivers
This is puzzling me (and hampering some work, slightly): NT4SP6 + full updates server, with some printers attached. "rpcclient -U admin%pass enumdrivers 2" server gives me a list of stuff like this: [Windows 4.0] Printer Driver Info 2: Version: [0] Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 5Si PCL 5e] Architecture: [Windows 4.0] Driver Path:

How do I stop the guest account printing?
Hi there. I've had Samba running fo a while now on a machine that we use as a shared file store. Not everyone who uses it has an account on the linux machine, so it's setup with "security = share" to allow guest access to some of the shares. But I've now attached a printer that I dont want guest access to. This might be something really simple that I'm missing, but I

booting w98 bootdisk via memdisk
Hallo, I try to boot the windows 98 bootdisk via memdisk. It doesn't work completely. Booting a freedos FD image works, booting the windows 98 image works too. But the windows 98 boot disk then should extract the file "ebd.cab" with the file "extract.com", and that step fails. Is that a syslinux problem or a windows problem? Viele Gruesse! Helmut

YASNPP - Yet Another Stupid Newbie Printing Problem
Hi all, I have a small peer-to-peer network of machines (3 * W98, 1 * Redhat7.1) with two printers (1 * HP6L, 1 * Lexmark Z22) hanging off the back of one of the W98 machines and have an odd problem. I am still a newbie with Linux, finally getting things up and running (sort of) after several weeks of fiddling around and innumerable reinstalls. I've finally seemed to have got Samba

Problems printing from Windows 2000
I run a small network at home, with a Linux server, which shares files and a printer. I also have a Linux PC (RH 9, KDE 3.1, CUPS 1.1.17) from which I am trying to share a Lexmark 3200 inkjet. Samba (2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix) seems to be generally configured OK - I can print to the Lexmark from a Windows 98 system, and from another PC running Mandrake 9.1. However, I am unable to print from two

Samba printer port missing
Recently I successfully setup samba as a print server to some networked Lexmark Optra S 1855, which went without problems. However a month later Ive try to add one of these printers to an NT4 workstation, now I get accessed denied and the Samba printer port is no longer available. It maybe a simple case of incorrect permissions , any clues on where I should look ? # NOTE: If you have a BSD-style

Getting rid of printer temp files
You need to add a semicolon and then the command rm %s to the end of your print command. However, you'll need to delete the files already there manually from Unix. print command = /bin/pt %p %s %M %U %T %a %v %m %I %d;rm %s Steve Litt At 03:22 AM 12/09/1999 +1100, you wrote: >I've set up Samba 2.0.6 for use as a print server on our company NT >network.
