master browser problems for one workgroup
Could somebody please tell me how can I know what computers of one local network are setuped up as master browsers for a local workgroup? I mean, is it possible to use nmblookup or other command for this? what parameters are needed? I'm having problems with a workgroup for which smbclient -L server gives different results every certain time, e.g. from one week to another the results

Domain master vs. workgroup master?? (messages about domain master browser)
Can anyone tell me what to do about the messages I'm getting, or should I ignore them? I think my SuSE 9.2 box is configured to expect a doman, and there isn't one, just a workgroup. Most things seem to be working ok, except for the messages: tolkien:/var/log # tail messages Apr 1 00:43:05 tolkien nmbd[3962]: Unable to sync browse lists in this workgroup. Apr 1 00:56:28 tolkien

Samba / Windows workgroup master browser problem
I admit theres a LOT about the windows networking I dont understand - and even though this may NOT be a SAMBA issue per se, I thought I'd post it here. Have a 400gb samba server thats been working well (am upgrading to current patches today, btw). I've got 3 Win2k workstations, on two subnets, that have drives mapped, and connect every morning on startup just fine. All the machines

Hi All, I need to evaluate a series expansion using Legendre polynomials. Using the 'orthopolinom' package I can get a list of the first n Legendre polynomials as character strings. > library(orthopolynom) > l<-legendre.polynomials(4) > l [[1]] 1 [[2]] x [[3]] -0.5 + 1.5*x^2 [[4]] -1.5*x + 2.5*x^3 [[5]] 0.375 - 3.75*x^2 + 4.375*x^4 But I can't figure out how to

Windows 2000 local master browser won't sync with Samba server domain master browser
I apologize in advance if this has been asked on the list already, but trying to find an answer to my question on the archives has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack... I'm trying to implement cross-subnet workgroup browsing. The domain master browser for the workgroup is a Samba box (2.0.6) acting also as a WINS server. All was well during our initial testing phases when Windows

Samba local master browser crashes the Windows domain master browser
Hi all, I have a Windows 2003sp2 domain with a few Samba 3.0 member servers. This domain services about 700 XP PCs distributed across 15 or so subnets. On one particular subnet there are about 300 PCs, 2 or 3 2003 member servers and a samba 3.0.28 member server (solaris). When/if the samba server picks up the local master browser role, it will cause the domain master browser to crash after a

Hi everybody ! I have installed Samba 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3 which is default version on FC3 making a fileserver and local master browser for my LAN . There is a machine called DAN ( running W98se ) which stops my Samba LMB. local/domain master browser
I hope this isn't too confusing, but I'm confused so... We have four boxes on our network (at least that I'm primarily concerned with). A Samba v2.2.5 PDC (linuxts1), one windows 98 workstation (kmorris), and two Samba workstations (jvan v2.2.3a & mrambo v.2.2.2). We're having browse problems on the network. The server is set up to be a domain & local master, the wins

local master browser
Hi list, I have a network with a Linux server, running samba 2.2.x, and 10 Workstation. 3 of the workstation are Win2000 and the rest is Win98 and WinME. In the logfiles I see that every 10 Minutes the Win2000 Workstations are forcing a election to become the local master browser for the network. The server wins the election each time but there is still a small amount of time (maybe 4 minutes)

Local Master Browser and Win2K
Hi all, this is my first posting to Samba. :) *wave* I'm trying to set my Samba box to be the local master browser for the domain. I set os level to 65, but the Windows 2000 test machine that we have keeps winning the election. I've tried upping the os level to 75 to see if that works and it doesn't appear to. Does anyone know Windows 2000's os level, so I can set the Samba

Forcing Samba host to become domain/local master browser?
Hello To investigate the issue I have with deleting files on a Samba host (a.k.a. LINUX), I installed a second Samba server on my LAN (UBUNTU). However, I didn't pay attention to browser-related infos, so that I guess LINUX would remain the domain/local browser. So I reconfigured the hosts thusly: =================== LINUX # cat /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios

Can't resolve local names - Master Browser Issues? Production servers please help!!!!
I have 4 Linux servers all running samba. Everything has been working fine until yesterday. With no changes to the network or to the servers samba has quit working right. The problems all relate to samba not being able to look up names against the master browser. When I try to mount using a windows pc name I get this error... [root@fileserver pdk]# mount -t smbfs -o username=pdk, passowrd=XXXXX

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
Can a router between two subnets (call it A and B) be the local master browser of the one subnet (net A) in a NT domain, when the Domain Master Browser (as well as PDC and BDC) are located in the other subnet (B)? Will say, does the Domain Master Browser of a NT domain accept a Local Master Browser in the same subnet (as the router is accessed from B via the interface ethB)? The reason for my
