e2fsprogs & endian questions
Hey all. I'm not on the list, so can you please cc me? Thanks.
Anyhow, I've got two questions. First, the website says that the 'latest'
e2fsprogs are needed. Does this mean 1.23-WIP is needed or will 1.22 do?
I'm assuming it's just a generally good idea. Second, has anyone tested
this on a BE machine? I'd like to use this on my PPC. I don't mind testing

Corruption issue found in e2fsprogs 1.41.5
Hi,
A critical regression has been discovered in e2fsck. The problem was
introduced in upstream 1.41.5 and is causing updates to block group
descriptors to be lost after journal replay. Our 1.41.5.sun2 (.sun1 too)
e2fsprogs version also suffers from this problem.
We are working on rebasing our e2fsprogs package on 1.41.6 (see bug
19852).
Until the new rpm is available (should be very soon), we

e2fsprogs Help.
Hello,
Hope you will forgive me for asking some very simple question about
e2fsprogs. I am very new to the kernel as
well as file system programming.
My task is to collect superblock, inode, bitmap ( or free list) information
from ext2/ext3 filesysteam. After searching
the google, I came to know about e2fsprogs, which I was able to install and
use at least "dumpe2fs" utility. This

Errors on EXT3 on RHEL3, Can we use e2fsprogs 1.36?
SUMMARY
We are getting many ``Free blocks count wrong for group'' errors when
running e2fsck on a 245-GB ext3 filesystem. This is when the file
system is cleanly unmounted on a relatively quiet system to do a
resize. From reading other messages here, my suspicion is that this
is because we have e2fsprogs 1.32.
Questions:
* Should we use e2fsck/e2fsprogs 1.36 and will that probably

stupid question on e2fsprogs
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Right now, every release of e2fsprogs, I do the following:
./configure --enable-elf-shlibs && make && make install
rm config.cache && rm config.status
./configure && make install-libs
Are these two seperate steps necessary? Seems to me that I had a problem
installing something or other and it suggested the first line.

[e2fsprogs-1.24] "fsck -A -a" fails on reboot
Dear Ted,
I upgraded e2fsprogs and util-linux to the latest versions, as per the
instructions on the "ext3 for 2.4" page, to make the switching between
ext2-only and ext3-enabled kernels seamless.
Now that if the filesystems have not been unmounted cleanly, due to a
power failure for example, "fsck -A -a" cannot continue after checking
the root filesystem on reboot, issuing

samba not responding to linux __break_lease() call.
I am working on a distributed file system running on linux where I am trying
to add support for samba OpLocks and I am observing behavior that I do not
understand.
My understanding is that samba establishes a lease on a file and expects to
receive a signal when conditions change and samba must relinquish the
lease. In my file system, when I detect a condition, possibly on another

Ext3 and external journals...
Hi,
I am trying out ext3 with an external journal (on a battery backed
RAM card). I use data=journal, and sync nfs writes go nice and fast :-)
But.. I had to power cycle it (buggy VM.. grumble :-) and now I cannot
get my filesystem back. It is only a test filesystem so I don't need
the data. But I want this to work before I put real data on it.
If I "fsck /dev/md1", it

e2fsprogs failed 7 tests
Hi !
I hope, this is the right ML to ask for this kind of problem. I was
testing around with ext3 and was deeply impressed that it was working good
and very fast. I installed e2fsprogs-1.25 on several machines and make
check everytime said: 50 tests ok, 0 tests failed.
On my laptop, this looked different, 43 tests ok, 7 failed.
Here they come:

Some kind of bug ? anyway
Tried to convert a 60 gig ext2 disk to ext3. Used tune2fs version 1.22
(it said). The filesystem refused to be converted with that version.
Upgraded to 1.25 of e2fsprogs and the problem went away. My two cents.

vfat is not working with ext3 patch

My system is :
kernel 2.4.8 with ext3-0.9.6 patch
e2fsprogs-1.22-2, mount-2.11g, util-linux-2.11f
And ext3 filesystem works fine, but when a vfat partition is mounted:

/dev/hda1 on / type ext2 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)

ext3->ext2->ext3 and unclean umount
Suppose I have the latest and greatest e2fsprogs.
>From reading the docs I understand that
1) boot ext3, clean umount
- you can remount ext3 or ext2
2) boot ext3, unclean umount
- you can remount ext3
- you can e2fsck and remount ext2
Does this mean that normal linux init script e2fsck will do it, in case fstab
says ext2? Or you should make sure to run e2fsck by hand with -f?

Redhat Roswell
Hi all
i installed Redhat beta Roswell, then i updated to Kernel 2.4.8
patched him and installed the newest util-linux + e2fprogs without any
custoumized Options. Bootloader is Grub. Now when i boot he says mount -O or -0
is an invalid Option. tune2fs -j /dev/hdXX says "The filesystem already has a journal"
lsmod says that no jbd or ext3 Modules is loadet but i have pachted the Kernel
