Hi again timur
I am completely frustrated at this point. The following is not meant
against you personally, but I'm the ONLY I.T. person for 100 users in 6
different offices, and I don't know what to do at this point but beg.
I finally figured out what Heimdal is, and I believe is the main
problem. Installed 5.2.1 on a machine. Installed krb5 from ports.
Changed make.conf adding

ADS Authentication
I'm about ready to smash my head through a wall...I could use a few answers.
1. When using security = ads, and completing net ads join, it was my
understanding that samba authenticated username/pword against ads, and
local posix accounts were nolonger needed, is this true?
2. If yes, I have not been able to get it to work. If I have a posix
user account with the same name as one in

To all with FreeBSD 5.2.1 and net ads join problems
If your getting kinit problems with net ads join (don't bother with
testjoin-it will error out no matter), do the following:
1. Change an administrators password, especially if you upgraded from
NT 4.
2. Create a krb5.conf file int /etc that looks like this:
logging]
default = FILE:/var/log/krb5libs.log
kdc = FILE:/var/log/krb5kdc.log
admin_server = FILE:/var/log/kadmind.log

Roaming Profiles:Samba PDC:WinXP:User must be local admin
I'm having a problem with Roaming profiles in Windows XP with Samba as PDC.
I've googled and trolled the mailing lists and read the Samba documentation.
Problem:
User logs onto domain from WinXP client and profile is downloaded (you can
tell because it takes a long time and lights on hub are lit up). However,
unless that user is in the admin group locally, all/some of the profile

Samba4 FreBSD
Having some issues with:
samba_dnsupdate
Specifically:
/usr/bin/nsupdate: cannot specify -g or -o, program not linked with
GSS API Library
I've looked through the script, and cannot find these options called.
If anyone can point me to where they're called I'd appreciate it.

Samba 4 and nsswitch
Having some difficulties determining which way to go here.
Have an Ubuntu 10.2 server running S4Alpha11. The samba stuff is
working well enough (though with a bit too much idle CPU
consumption--haven't go there yet).
However, I can't get proper responses for file system and user/group
lookup.
With AD in Samba 3 nsswitch.conf was
passwd: files winbind
group: files

winbind problems
Hello,
I am running a Samba server (3.0.7) on a Suse 9.2 box. I have connected this server successfully to a Windows 2000 Active Directory (mixed mode). I have nsswitch.conf, krb5.conf configured and winbind seems to be running properly for the most part. With wbinfo I can get all of my user and group information. Problem is, it seems that at random times, the samba server just stops

Regarding S4 and libnss_winbind.so
Apparently this didn't/doesn't build on FreeBSD by default...or is it
"doesn't build at all".
If it is buildable, what should I do to build it, as without it...see

mount_smbfs and samba 2.2.0
I know 5.1 isn't considered part of -stable, but it doesn't really seem like -current either, so I'm asking here. If this is the wrong place please let me know where I should be.
At work I have a 5.1-R box that I'm trying to use to mount shares from a Sun box running samba 2.2.0 as well as some Win2K boxes. Both the sun and win2k machines authenticate to the company's domain

Samba4-alpha11
Just thought I'd say that samba4 is working quite nicely. Samba4 DC
on Ubuntu server. Added a W2k3R2 and W2k8R2 server as DC's. Took a
little bit of play to get it done, but not much.
The only thing I've noticed so far (still in early lab stage) is a GC
issue.
Now if I can upgrade a Samba3-LDAP domain....

FW: smbd *not* breaking hard links when saving files
Hi Tim et al.,
Yes, I can see that the new behaviour would seem like an 'optimization',
possibly especially for large files, in that it saves the unlink operation.
was (quasi): unlink, open(write), write data, close
now is (quasi): open(write, truncate), write data, close
However, this old behaviour enabled my rather nice hard link copy (cheap!) local
backup.
The question is, is the
