read only share access after upgrade to 3.0.10
Hello Samba gurus.
I'm in upgrade hell after upgrading my backup rh9 server and fc2 linux
box to 3.0.10 from 3.0.7. rh9 rpm package was from the samba site and
the fc2 rpms from redhat.
I now have a system where the win xp and win98se machines on the network
can read/write to the backup share but my fc2 box only has read only
access to the share - it could write before the upgrade.
I tried

[PATCH v2] customize/perl_edit-c.c: Don't use internal APIs.
We can now use the Guestfs.c_pointer method to access the underlying

[PATCH 2/3] mllib: expose disk decrypt functionalities
Expose via Common_utils the C functions & variables (part of guestfish)
that handle decryption of LUKS partitions, and the additional command
line arguments to tune the way they work. This way it will be easy to
provide (basic) crypto support also in OCaml-based tools.

NMBD Not Starting
I moved an entire RH 6.2 server from one CPU to a new one using a tape
backup/restore. Everything from the old server is working on the new server,
but when SysV starts up smb, the nmbd daemon (2.0.6) exits with an error:
create_subnets: No local interfaces!
eth0 has already started according to the logs and console. Any ideas?
Thanks.

error while transfering files
Hi everybody!
I've problems with Samba and Win98 clients. Everytime I try to
copy some files from a Win98 machine to the server, the
progress bar freezes after a while and then after a minute or so
I get an error message that the 'network ressource isn't available'.
The server runs Samba version 2.0.7-3 and the OS is Debian
Linux 2.2 r3 (Potato).
And this is what error.log says:

INETD Question.
I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000). I have HPUX 11.x
installed on the samba server. When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't
work. I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it works
fine. But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start. The previous version
of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine. Is this a bug in

I've just downloaded and installed the SAMBA binaries for HPUX 10.20. I'm

file (swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /opt/samba/bin/swat swat) and
have shutdown and restarted the inetd daemon. When I use Netscape and

problems running samba on Caldera 2.3?
I have the default installation of samba (2.0.5) that came with Caldera OL
2.3, but it doesn't seem to be starting up properly, nor is SWAT working.
When I run the script 'samba start', I get the message "Starting samba:
smbd nmbd", but when I check the running processes, only nmbd shows up.
Running smbstatus gives me the message "Couldn't open status file

Proposed improvements to service_ok()
I've been unhappy for some time with the weak checking
of service self-consistency in .../source/param/loadparm.c's
"service_ok" function.
Here's my initial draft of a better one, in diff format.
Suggestions and criticism welcome!

Hi,
For no particular reason, my Samba service didn't start yesterday,
when I went to start it by going in the /usr/local/samba/sbin and then
