Is it possible to store XP Profiles on Samba 3.0.2 ?
Hi all,
Can you use Samba to store an XP Pro profile?
I'm running Samba 3.0.2a (compiled from source) on Solaris 9.
Compiled it against OpenLDAP 2.1.30 and MIT Kerberos 1.3.3 (both
compiled from source from fresh downloads today).
Am now trying to get Windows XP Pro to store profiles on to this box.
The smbd and nmbd seem to run fine.
Every time XP Pro goes to create a user's

create_canon_ace_lists: unable to map SID
Hi all,
I'm trying to get a Samba server (which is a member of a Samba
controlled domain) to store WinXP Pro user's profiles. The XP user
is authenticating against a 2003 Active Directory server, which then tells
it to store it's profile on my Samba server.
The 'profiles' share exists and is writeable and under some circumstances
we can get profiles to be stored there,

question NIS password authenication
Fellow Samba Folks,
I am trying to setup Samba version 2.2.8a. I would like to
authenticate the users with their NIS password and not use a smbpasswd file
on the Samba Server. I also want to use the encrypt password feature. The
clients will be using XP or Win2K os. Is this possible or do I have to find
a Windows Domain Server. Thanks

smbpasswd error
Hi Samba people
I saw this as a problem in the archives about a month ago but no solution ?
I'm running samba 2.2.10 on Solaris 8.
We have a script to replace /usr/bin/passwd which changes the NIS passwd and
then uses smbpasswd to change the user's smb password to the same thing.
Some users are getting :
NIS password changed for diane on cauchy
machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password

samba and NIS?
Hi,
I have a few questions. My goal is to run
NIS and samba so I have a central point of passwd control
and just one place to change passwords. I will eventually
have 5 samba servers so this is quite important to me as
I don't want to have to change passwords and setup passwords
on 5 servers when changing or adding new users.
Can this be done? So that if a user changes his password

Sync UNIX and SMB users
Hi,
I'm new to Samba so I apologize if this topic has been covered in the past.
I want to sync my UNIX users from /etc/shadow to my Samba users in
/etc/samba/smbpasswd
How can I do this automatically?
Thanks!

password synchronization.
Hello,
I'm running samba 2.2 on FreeBSD 4.4. I was wondering if there was a
way to sync up the samba and FreeBSD user passwords so that when either
via the unix passwd or samba's smbpasswd program a user changes a
password it is changed through both systems? If anyone is dong this
successfully please let me know.
Thanks.
Dave.

VSS and Samba on Tru64 Unix
Good Afternoon All.
Please forgive me if this is an often-asked question, but ...
We're trying to get the ability to have users in the same UNIX group be able to check-in and check-out files from a VSS repository. All users in a defined unix group should be able to copy, edit, and delete any file created by any other user in that group.
As most of you probably already know, this works fine

Can I disable offline folders?
Hi all,
our NT server guy has just asked me if I can disable/prevent offline folder support on a Samba share. This
is something which is configurable on a Windows 2000/2003 server share. Any help much appreciated,
thanks Andy.

Preexec on Profiles
I'm trying to get a preexec line to work on Profiles when a windows XP
system logs in. The line and script are the same as we used to use on the
"homes" share with WIndows 98 clients on samba 2. However I cannot seem to
make the preexec line trigger either on login or by explicitly mounting the
share.
Here's the bit from my smb.conf

Timestamp problem
Hi
When new files or copied files are putted in a Samba share (3.0.2
Solaris) from Win clients, it has no time stamp, only date stamp,
example:
-rwxr--r-- 1 me me 740762 Oct 11 2004 test.jpg
It only shows the date. Our application relies on time stamps to process
the files (actually ftp is the method to move files) so that breaks the
application.
We would like to use Samba instead and that

unix password sync doesn't update smbpasswd file!
Hi all,
I'm using 2.2.3 on FreeBSD 4.5 RELEASE and trying to get
'smbpasswd' to change the encrypted password and the UNIX password
(/etc/passwd).
I'm getting strange behaviour.
Having worked through debugging my 'chat script', I now have
the following situation:-
When unix password sync = yes
smbpasswd works, but only the UNIX password is changed

Sorry if this is an FAQ...I have seen reports of this problem on several

I have used Samba on Solaris for years, currently 2.2.1 on Solaris

systems. It compiles and installs OK, but clients can't connect. Not only

Using parameters in lpq command conflicts with background lpq
I have an application than makes use of the "lpq command" and uses the %U parameter in the command string. The application returns a personalized queue list based on the value of %U. This technique worked well in older versions of Samba (circa RedHat 8), but I have run into some trouble with Samba 3. The issue appears to be twofold.
1) The lpq command is now run from the

It's just stopped working! (1.9.18p8, IRIX 5.3)
Hi all,
I'm extremely puzzled by the behaviour of one of my Samba servers. It's
been working fine for yonks, and this morning (abuout 11:32) it just
stopped. (mostly)
Connecting to shares still works. Navigating the tree till works.
Changing (DOS) attributes still works.
But actually opening files and reading the contents doesn't work.
The client just times out (Win 3.11, and

SOLVED: Roaming profiles not updating XP
After almost 40 hours of work and testing over 6 computers I have finally
figured out the answer to my problem of Roaming profiles not updating. This
has occurred with SAMBA versions 2.2.* and later up through and including
3.0.2a (completely clean install in each case, including rebuilding domain,
users and groups and smb.conf from scratch). It does not appear to be a SAMBA
issue but one
