Problems with simple samba setup
Hi All I'm trying to set up a machine with a simple samba configuration. I've written the config file with no problems, however any time I attempt to connect to the shares it doesn't work. Firstly, the smb.conf: [global] netbios name = TEMPSRV workgroup = LIPSON map to guest = Bad User [ittechs] comment = Should not see me... path = /var/smb/ittechs read only = no force user =

Unable to browse workgroup, shares otherwise accessible
Hi, After upgrading from Mandrake Linux 9.2 to Mandrake Linux 10 I can no longer browse my workgroup domain in "My Network Places" from my XP Pro clients. However, I can still access the shares on my Samba server without problem using either "Add Network Place" or by entering the path directly in Explorer. Another symptom is found in my Samba log where a lot of the

Windows XP Pro and Samba (file saving)
Sometimes when I save a file to a samba-shared drive the application is unable to save there and asks if the file is write protected or if the disk is full. If I then save it to a local drive and copy it there using Windows Explorer, it can overwrite the file fine. Do I need to make that myriad of changes to my XP Pro registry? Most of the time it works fine, just from time to time it will give

Error running pvals.fnc in R version 2.13.0
Dear R-help: I've been trying to run pvals.fnc in the newest version of R (2.13.0). The function lmer worked fine, but when I tried to use pvals.fnc on the lmer object, I got the following error: "Error in pvals.fnc(elogr.subj.dys.sum.3x3.p, nsim = 10000) : trying to get slot "coefs" from an object (class "summaryDefault") that is not an S4 object." How can I

rid format in sambaSID
Using ldap as my sam backend and Samba 3.0.0-2, I'm showing that samba stops parsing a RID when it encounters a letter. For example, I have an accounting group with gid 2771 and therefore rid ad3. When I list the groups in the samba domain, however, I get this listing: Domain Admins (DOMAINSID-512) -> Domain Admins Domain Users (DOMAINSID-513) -> Domain Users Domain Guests

Samba 3.0 Alpha 23 and windbindd
Hi folks, I've been using the samba alpha releases for a bit now. I'm really satisfied and grateful as it really helps out in our infrastructure. I do however experience an issue that is really stumping me. The problem exists in the mapping of winbind GID/UIDs to names. From time to time, the GID will just change. For example, in our environment, the Group JCNTV/Domain Admins is

windbindd / AD / DNS Updates
Hello * Volker, thank you for your fast help / answer :-) !!! different question: is there a (nonzero possibility, that an vendor provided samba ( SLES11 SP1 ) could try to trigger DNS Updates, in spite of the server role cited below: testparm Load smb config files from /etc/samba//smb.conf Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER even if no DNS related config is done, and thus /etc/resolv.conf

Group creation and ldap
I'm using samba 3.0.4 with ldapsam as a pdc. When I try to create a group, samba correctly runs the add group script, which creates an LDAP entry with objectClass set to posixGroup and gidNumber set to the gid I want to use and cn set to the group name. The next thing samba does is look for the posix group with the following filters: [(&(objectClass=sambaGroupMapping)(gidNumber=0))]

Cannot Access LDAP when not root...
I'm trying to resolve an issue with Samba and LDAP. I'm using a program called Spider that provides network based rendering using domain logons to controll who can access the renders on the farm. It requires a group called SpiderAdmin to be setup (which I've done) and have added the users into the group. However, the only way that the SpiderAdmin users can access the renders on the

Windbindd restarts and lost uids
We have a problem with our setup that exposed another problem in winbindd. Setup: Samba 3.0.1, openLDAP 1.2.23 for idmap backend using port 1389, security=ads (w2k). All works after we get the daemons started successfully. The first issue has to do with the initial setup of both a Samba server [smbd, nmbd, winbindd, slapd], and a Samba client [just nmbd and winbindd]. We do the

Interdomain trusts (Bind NACK received on pipe)
I'm attempting to set up a 2-way NT4-style trust between samba 3.0.1-2 (from source rpm on redhat 7.2) and Windows 2003 running active directory. The AD server (SANDMAN) trust of my Samba domain works fine, but when I try to use the Samba trust of the AD server I get the following error: [2004/02/04 15:52:34, 3] rpc_client/cli_pipe.c:rpc_api_pipe(462) Bind NACK received on pipe c009!

Invalid workgroup name in browse list
On my PDC, which is also the DMB, there is a duplicate entry for a trusted domain that is run on an AD controller on the same ethernet segment. The duplicate, though, has several spaces after the name (from browse.dat): "BROADWAY" 80001000 "CALIMERO" "BROADWAY" "BROADWAY " 80001000 "CALIMERO"

xp profiles and samba 3.0
How can an xp machine on a samba domain rejoin the domain without having remote profile problems? When I do a windows logon to the domain after the pc has rejoined, my old profile is moved to profile.domain, and a new profile is then copied from the samba domain controller. Why? After that, some xp things don't pick up with the new profile.

Best way for exchange?
I have been asked to set up a customer with Exchange 2000. I have tried to convert them, so please don't suggest it. We have 3 boxes we can use to do this with. We want to use Samba 3 as the PDC (ldap backend) and Samba 3 as BDC (ldap backend), with the exchange box as a domain member. Will this work? If not, what is the best way to ensure that : a. We have PDC and BDC for authentication
