ext3fs for 2.4.5
Hi,
I have ext3 installed against the 2.2.19 kernel. I am able to make
the ext3 file system and mount it.
I am not able to install the ext3fs for kernel-2.4.5 . I am unable
to add the ext3 patch to the kernel. In the directory
~andrewm/linux/ext3/,
which is the patch for 2.4.5 kernel.
( I can only see the patches for 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 ).
Also, is there any prescribed pattern for

Assertion failure in ext3_prepare_write() at inode.c:934: "handle != 0"
Hi. I was using ext3 0.0.1 without any problems in the last
33 days (same boot). / was still ext2, but I changed /etc/fstab
to ext3. /home/ftp/pub/ is ext3. I mounted
/home/ftp/pub/slakware/bare.i with loopback in /mnt/floppy/.
After some time:

ext3 and 2.4.x-smp
I am running a RH6/7ish system on an abit bp6 with 2.4-test12 -smp
running rock solid. I have a new drive that I want to use to test out a
journa;ing file system on, and thus far have not been happy with
reiserfs and have been waiting for ext3 on 2.4 (I had been considering
xfs as an alternative but from what i've read it's a little too robust
for my needs).
Anyway, I guess I am

Patch for latest ac release?
Lo,
Is there already a patch out for latest 2.4.6-ac release? I'm pretty sure
that the ext3 patch -ac2 can not be applied on this release.
Bye.

EXT3 Trouble on 2.4.4
All,
I know that there is no official port to Kernel 2.4.4, thus I may not get any
help, however I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction for
my problem. I am currently forced to use kernel 2.4.4 for reasons out of
my control (embedded board).
Here are the exact versions of everything I'm running:
ExT3 Version: ext3-2.4-0.9.6-248
Util Version: util-linux-2.11f.tar.bz2

Re: Ext3 kernel RPMS (2.4.5 & 2.2.19)

contain ext3. so my question that your rpm contain different ext3
than rh's rpm? or I can simple use rh's rawhide rpms?
thanks.
yours.
ps. please reply to my private address to since I'm not on the list.

Kernel 2.4.5 and gkernel/ext3 CVS: cannot compile
Hi,
I've tried to compile an ext3 extended 2.4.5 kernel but I got no
luck. After applying the ext3 patch from the gkernel/ext3 (download
today) (symlinks are created) I run into following problem:
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/local/src/kernel/linux-2.4.5-ext3cvs/include
-Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer
-fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -march=i686

ext3 on 2.4.4
How close is the ext3 port -> 2.4.4?
I would like to use it, but am curious if there are any outstanding bugs
that would impede performance or freeze the system.
THanks.

ext3-2.4-0.9.0
An update of the ext3 journalling filesystem for 2.4 kernels
is available at
http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/
Patches are against 2.4.6-ac1 and 2.4.6.
Changes since 0.0.8 include:
- Multiplied the version numbering by ten to cater for bugfix
releases against the 0.9.0 stream.
- The main thrust has been the removal of a number of changes in
the core kernel which were required

ext3 patch for 2.4.6 (plain or ac1)
Does the ext3 patch applies on top of the newly released
2.4.6 kernel (and/or the 2.4.6-ac1 variant) ?
I want to upgrade to the new kernel and wanted to know
before I run into problems if there are any known problems
and if it's better to wait for an 'official' release.
Thanks.
Stelian.

kernel panic on ext3
Hello, Sir.
My name is Hiroyuki Kudo.
I have a problem using ext3 in my system DELL PowerEdge 1550.
I recently installed RedHat 7.2 (kernel-2.4.7-2) and found that it
used ext3. Later, since I needed to use nfsv4, I got
kernel-2.4.4-nfsv4. But it didn't start up and saying `kernel panic`
What is wrong with it?
If the problem can be cleared with ext3-patch, how can I do it?

ext3 and 2.4.5: OK, but how to convert / ?
Hi. I just installed ext3 for 2.4.5 from
http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ but couldn't find
anything about converting my root partition to ext3. 2
partitions are now ext3 after I umount and tune2fs, but what
should I do with / ? I tried init 1 and umount, but tune2fs
would fail because it was on read-only fs.
Another question is if I can now build ext2 as a module, and
if it's

ext3 problem
Hello
Does anybody know that Linux kernel 2.4.4 supports ext3 fs (module or embedded). I looked at the
config menus, but I couldn't see ext3 support. I don't know whether the other ext3 modules work
under a kernel which does not support ext3. I will try to insmod ext3 modules.
I'm searching and trying newly built kernels.
Any help or comments are welcome.
Best regards

Cygwin/rsync Hang Problem Testing Results
People of cygwin & rsync,
I recently attempted to get cygwin and rsync working to solve a
backup/mirroring need in my computer life. Well, as you might guess, I
ran into a little but of trouble.
Strangely enough, rsync seemed to be regularly hanging when I attempted
to do a "get" (sycronize a remote to a local dir). Well, considering I
want to automate this, that was not going

Bad unaligned kernel access with ext3 0.8.0
Hello!
This is Kernel 2.4.6-ac1 with ext3-0.8.0 compiled with cvs-gcc
version 3.1 20010616 on alpha ev4.
I have prepared one ext3 filesystem to play with. When my rc-scripts call
mount -a during boot I receive this:

Mounting / as ext3 when ext3 is modularized in 2.4
Hello,
I recently switched from 2.2 to 2.4 kernel. Each partition already contains
a journal. I tried kernel-2.4.5-0.2.9 from RedHat Rawhide, where ext3/jbd is
modularized. For the people who want to try this kernel, you first need to
rebuild it, and enable CONFIG_JBD_DEBUG. This solves an unresolved symbol
in jbd.o which prevents ext3 to load. (This issue will be solved in next
RawHide)

after trying to download the newest 2.4.6 patch

file appears to be corrupt.

Is this list active?
I subscribed this morning but have no traffic. Sometimes no traffic is
a good thing. Since I've gone to ext3 on my 2.4.5 kernel, the only
time I ever had problems was when the filesystems were not unmounted
cleanly and the journal was lost. About 60 minutes of searching and
reading and I found out how to recreate the journal.
So far, so pleased with ext3fs.

Upgrade from 2.4.4 to 2.4.6
Hi,
I've had some issues with rsync over ssh with version 2.4.4 which an update
to 2.4.6 fixed. The problem I have now is that machines which do not have a
valid reverse dns entry for their IP addresses get empty directory listings
from the server, even though they can get the module list and the motd each
time. This is what I see in the server's log file for each attempt from
such hosts
