Newbie to 3.0.1 and having problems
I have just upgraded from samba 2.2.7a to 3.0.1. For this upgrade I backed up my old samba installation, installed the new configuration and copied over the contents of the private directory which was secrets.tdb and smbpasswd. I ran testparm and everything seemed fine so I run samba and H drives come back up perfectly. I think I have 3 issues: 1) I noticed in /var/adm/messages that entries

URGENT:problem with charset - migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.0.2a
Hello all we have just carried out the above muigration . Our PDC is a Solaris 7 machine ( Sun E450 ) , our clients are Windows 2000 machines. When logging on to client PCs some users get messages about being unable to copy various 'Favourites' . Upon examination of the profiles ( which are stored on the PDC ) we noted unusual characters in the offending entries. When these entries were

[Old] Clients cannot login into Samba-Domain
I had a working "Samba-2.2.7a-SuSE" domain (with roaming profiles, etc.) but this server crashed. So I copied the samba directory with the config files (including secrets.tdb, passwd, ...) from my backup to the second server and started nmb and smb, but the Clients could'nt log onto the domain. The error was something like: "You couldn't log on. Please check username and

I dont know how/where the webserver is working, thus i dont know how/where to get the total count (if its already stored somewhere at all). Otherwise, what is the easiest way to get the count?

Changing AD pasword
Running Samba3.0.2a in linux (Gentoo) security = ads Users are logging in fine (XP and W2K), using samba for file sharing and printing. We have (by corporate decree) a fairly short password life. When the password is about to expire the user is prompted to change it during their windows logon. I have seen mention of synchronizing the password with unix but no mention of pushing it back to the AD

Socket Errors
I'm trying to figure out what this error means. I've looked all over the groups and though there are people with the same errors, no one seems to know what the error is. I'm running Samba 3.0.2 with OpenLDAP 2.0.27. It might be related to Kerberos or to SSL. I've looked through my NMBD and SMBD logs and found very little as to what the problem could be. I've tried various

Problems upgrading from 2.2.7a to 3.0.2a
First, a little background: For over a year now, we've had a 400 Mhz celeron running Samba 2.2.7 on RedHat 9, acting as a PDC for an office of about 8 Windows XP client PCs. It has done a great job, but we recently bought a new Dell Poweredge 400 sc (2.4 Ghz P-4) to replace it. I installed Gentoo on it, with Samba 3.0.2a. I also copied the entire /home tree from the old box to the new one,

rsync speed
Hi, I poked around the website and did some digging in the list archives but thought i'd better pose my question here. I'm using rsync to synchronize two directories on a Solaris 8 e450 server. rsync copies about 22GB per night. It seems to take 50 minutes for the copy to complete. which seems a little bit slow. I'm currently running # /opt/bin/rsync -v rsync version 2.3.1

CentOS 4.2beta on Sun Ultra 5 (sparc64)
I just wanted to bring some attention to the experimental build of CentOS that Pasi put together for sparc64 architecture. I installed it for the first time last night on a Sun Ultra 5 (333MHz, 256MB RAM, upgraded to 40GB hard disk). I installed it over a serial console as this is a headless system. Install went flawlessly. After the install was done and it booted up, I ssh'd in as root,

"Too many open files" error
We have a Sun E450 running Solaris 8 and Samba 2.2.8a as our domain controller. We have had no problems with Samba until earlier this week when we have started to get lots of these errors in log.smbd: [2003/08/08 16:29:14, 0] lib/debug.c:(348) Unable to open new log file /home/samba_pearl/var/log.smbd: Too many open file s This has been happening once a day, at the same time some users are not
