Samba's Printer Going Off-Line (after a Win98 Machine speaks to it)
Hi,
I have a light firewall machine that also acts as a Samba print
server for a Win32 host on my intranet. For some reason, if the Win98
machine hasn't printed for an extended length of time, the printer
goes off-line. When the Win32 tries to print, the printer throws an
error and we have to unplug the printer and then plug it back in. It
then tries to finish the print job which

Win98/HP Printer problem. Partially Solved.
I set up a print/fax server here using RH Linux 6.0, and Samba 2.0.3. The
printer is an old (but still very reliable) HP Laserjet 4. Printing from
the Linux box using lpr works fine. However, whenever someone tries to
print from a Windows98 box through SAMBA, there is an extra page printed
on the end. This gets really annoying to the users, more so because the
extra pages cannot be put back into

one printer doesn't print under samba
I have a problem I hope someone can help with.
I have TLS 6.0 set up to provide print services to Win98 clients using
samba. There are two printers, an HP LaserJet 4050 and an HP DeskJet 950C,
both attached to separate JetDirect 170 print servers. The HP4050 works
wonderfully, no problems at all. The 950C doesn't work. The printer is
available when browsing and can be installed on the

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98
I'm stuck.
I have Samba running on my Red Hat 7.2 Linux box. I can mount by remote dirctory
on the Linux box via Samba. But I can't print to the Linux printer. I have a
Linux printer installed and I can print to it using lpr. I have a printer
configured in Samba and can see that from the Win98SE box. I've clicked on the
Samba printer name and configured a Win98 printer.

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98 - SOLVED.
I now have the deskjet print printing from my Win98 box. Something in the
"hpdeskjet" entry was causing the error of "No machine name found" to appear when
I tried to print from Win98. I fixed this by deleting the entry and re-creating
it. I also specifically added allowed IP addresses instead of using "all" in the
config file. I created a generic text printer

Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine.
Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP
Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a
couple of things for me?
1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that
it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix?
2. I ignore the message and

I have a Problem with my local Fileserver.
Scince a few days Win98 Clients a not possible to access Directorys

\\rechner\cinema is avaible, but if the Clients access a subdirectory

win98 can't access directories
Hello together,
i have a problem with win98 Clients if they connect to one
the Server. The can't access Directorys deeper than the share.
I use samba 2.2.3a-1 for Debian Linux.
I know about the Password Problem with Windows and I can say that
this isn't the Problem.
I already removed samba an reinstalled it again, but it doesn't
take any effect.
I append my smb.conf.

No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status,
but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print
documents.
I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server
makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories
available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients.
From a Win98 client, print

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT ,2000, XP are ok)
Thanks for the suggestion Andrew, I was hopeful,
but removing the writeable made no difference.
Still prints from NT, 2000, XP but not from Win95, 98.
Any other ideas?

Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?
I have a WinXP guest under VMWare on my CentOS 5.1 host and it can
access the CentOS printer(s) just fine.
However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be
able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the
printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...?
Any suggestions?

Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share"
to "domain"?

Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for
this and
none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either...
If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to
get these
older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help!

Configuring Linux printer to be usable by Win98 boxes
I'm a newbie at using Samba. I've been working to allow my Win98 users access to
file space on the Linux box. I'm now trying to them access to the Linux
printer. The printer works fine within Linux, but when I try to print to it from
the Win98 side, I get an error saying unknown device. I've configured the
printer as a network printer, it is seen by Network Neighborhood, but I

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all,
I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with
Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached
via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port,
the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on
win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both
printers are
