Question about LDAP migration...
Yesterday I started to build a test network to evaulate our planned move to Samba 3.0.14 and Debian. I started off by duplicating our LDAP directory. On the exisiting Samba PDC/LDAP master machine, I did: slapcat -v -l old.ldif I put the 'old.ldif' file onto a floppy disk, went to the lab's server and performed slapadd -v -l /media/floppy/old.ldif The process stopped on the

Samba + LDAP PDC on Gentoo
Has anyone got this setup running? Can you point me to a HOWTO? I'm stuck with a problem in "smbldap_tools.pm" when I do any kind of basic thing. I keep getting this error: ============================================================================ == vulcan root # smbldap-usershow.pl Administrator Can't call method "search" on an undefined value at

Samba + LDAP PDC on Gentoo - UPDATE
I've been able to get PAM/NSS/LDAP working properly - silly typo. Still failing on the smbldap-tools use though. :( Kevin > > Has anyone got this setup running? Samba, CUPS and Windows Printer Queue
I've had a Samba 3.0.2 Print Server running for nearly 7 months now without too much of a hitch on RedHat Enterprise "ES" 3.0. Late last week, RedHat issued an Errata that moved Samba from the 3.0.2 base to the 3.0.4 base. So when I did the "up2date" this weekend as part of my normal maintenance, this server was updated and everything appeared to be fine. Things are

Viruses and the list

What a waste. If the guys writing viruses would put their energies into REAL code, we'd be so much farther ahead. Later, -- Kevin L. Collins, MCSE Systems Manager

Re: Trusting and Trusted Domain Samba LDAP (mapping Home Directories)Problem
Hi Igor, I am no samba expert. Reading your email produce 2 thots. 1. If I have not read wrongly, you DID NOT managed to reproduce my scenario cos when you joined Domain A , login as user of DomB , you got the expected result, the Domain B's sambahomepath and drive gets map to the user B. Mine result was this: I joined Domain A, login as user of Dom B, I did NOT get Domain B's

Samba 2.2.7a and Word 2000 = Corrupted (?) files
I have a Samba 2.2.7a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend) that seems to be giving me trouble. Here's the scoop: I have Windows 2000 Pro clients running Word 2000. Over the past several days, a lot of them have had trouble with their documents - most of the time during a save. The most critical of these failures presents the following error message when saving: "Word has lost data due to a

Re: Trusting and trusted domain (home mapping) problem
Hi Igor, Thanks so much for troubleshooting all this while and we found out none of our configuration is the problem but the source code. Hope that the samba team will modify to a working code so that I can deploy it. Actually my dateline to deploy is coming soon and I do not know what to do now..... when do you think the code will be modified and be released? Thanks so much for your help.

Performance Issue: Red Hat vs SuSE
Hi All, A couple of days ago I posted a query here about the loss of performance on my backup server after I moved from Red Hat 7.3 to SuSE 8.1. It appears as though, with no hardware or script changes, that my backup process takes 4 hours longer with SuSE 8.1. I'm doing (what I think is) a very simple script that basically employs SMBMOUNT, CP, and DIFF. Like this:

More Domain Groups
Hi All: Stuff I'm using: Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 2.1 Samba 2.2.7 OpenLDAP 2.0.25 I followed the Idealx.org howto to build Samba+LDAP. I have a functioning, replicating domain on my lab workbench right now. Then I began to explore permissions on local shares, etc. when I discovered that to a Windows client, the only domain groups that are available from a Samba PDC are "Domain

LDAP issue, access denied adding machine to domain, and LDAP user can't make unix-login on the box.
Hi, I have a LDAP backend for my Samba 3.0.2, and everything seems to work except adding XP machines to the domain, and unix logins with a ldap client. Since this mail is very long, I have created a small index, so you don't get exhaustet in the middle of all the logs... ;) 1. LDAP user-creation 2. Group info 3. pam/nss info 4. smb.conf [global] 5. Samba + LDAP + Password Expiry = Almost working...
I've got a Samba 2.2.7a domain with an LDAP backend. It's been working for nearly 3 months now without much bother. By the way: Great work and thanks for all of the effort! I have been missing one minor thing from the setup since I moved away from NT 4: Password Expiration. In the past I have posted questions about this on the list and I've gotten two answers: "Wait for

PDC/BDC Domain Logins Samba 2.2.7
We're about to start migrating from Windows NT 4.0 to a Samba controlled setup. I've got a question about the functionality of the Samba PDCs and BDCs. In my Windows setup I have three domains that are defined by geographic locations. Each of these domains "trusts" the other. In Samba 2.2.7, I can't have the trusts, so I'm looking at creating one giant domain that

LDAP backend for a stand-alone server
I'm sure I'm missing something in the configuration or am misconfiguring the ldif. Regular linux accounts authenticate fine looking at the ldap but not samba accounts. When I try to map a drive, it just returns "Incorrect password or unkown username". I have ldap running on a seperate server from the samba server. I get nothing in the messages logs on the samba server,

samba 3.0.0-1 + OpenLDAP
Hi All, after so much suffering I finally have my rh9 box working with openldap-2.0.0.27-8 and samba-3.0.0-1. I still have some problems as follow: 1 - Once I've joined a machine to the Domain I only can logon using root user; if I try to logon as Administrator the system tells me that username and/or password are not correct. 2 - If I try to use the parameter 'passdb backend =
