Re: Apostrophes in Windows usernames (again)
It's very possible. I've put the suggested changes in place and recompiled on a test box, but my user is out of the office today and can't test it so I'll have to wait for hte weekend to pass. Thenks for the info. Mike -----Original Message----- From: mrojava4@eastgranby.k12.ct.us [mailto:mrojava4@eastgranby.k12.ct.us] Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 5:10 PM To: EXT-Auleta,

can browse/copy/delete file from samba's shares but can't print
Hi, We installed Linux 8 with Samba 2.2.5-10. Sambe gets the network pc's names and passwords from our PDC-windows NT machine. In samba.cfg we have: security=server password server = xxxxxxxx (ip address of our PDC) We have a printer on that machine and we want to share it in the network. W2000 machines print on that printer without problem. However when we tried to add the printer on

locale problem in W98
Dear all I am using two computers, one with Windows2000 and the other one with W98 both have the same version (precompiled binary) R 1.8.1 and I have experienced a slight problem with text used in plotting on W98 machine. When I try to write some local characters into R console ????? (not sure if it is OK on your computers) in W2000 **everything** is OK but in W98 some of the characters

My Workgroup eventually disappears when I enable SAMBA!
When I enable Samba on my Linux box, the workgroup "Workgroup" eventually disappears from site in both the GUI "Network Neighbourhood" and at the W2000 cmd line "net view". It takes a little while for this to happen, and initially it works well. The Linux Box information can be found at the url below. But a short description of the setup is as follows: * Network is

special chars in windows filenames
Hi folks! I upgraded a red hat linux fileserver (kernel version 2.4.18-14) from samba 2.x to samba 3.02. After the upgrade, the special chars in windows filenames (German Umlaute) were no more visible to clients but either substituted with a little black rectangle or completely suppressed - depending on the client operating system (W2000/W98). Within the archived list I found a hint that the

1 wk2 server with 2 names; is it possible?
Hi, I tried to post in the windows newsgroup, but I didn't get replies because maybe there the users are not very conscious of what they are doing. ;-) I can't choose to go with samba (as I'd like best), because on the w2k server of the subject there are some windows application that doesn't work on linux or samba. Sorry if it's a FAQ, and if it is let me know where can I

smbmount not exiting in script
I run a script to mount several file shares from machines running W98 and W2000 so that I can do incremental dumps every night of these file shares. smbmount almost always fails to exit. This causes the script to stall and so the dumps are not done. In the am, if I kill the smbmount processes, the dumps complete successfully, since the mounts were in fact correctly completed. Change in NA_REAL behavior (PR#1886)
Full_Name: David Larsen Version: 1.5.1 OS: Redhat 7.2, w98, w2000 Submission from: (NULL) (128.206.66.65) I have c code that produces vector sequences for plotting. I use NA_REAL to create an NA that will pass back to R to break the line. This code worked fine upto R-1.5.0 It continues to work on Redhat7.2 Linux but on both windows98 and windows2000 the NA_REAL returns -6.623485e-229 on both

No, isn't. but you have to try; 'cos, in my opinion, of course, you won't login in bdc; but, the roaming profiles (home directory) must be in pdc; if that works, you will try set (in bdc): logon path = \\PDC\blablabla... Windows 95
I am having a problem with some Windows 95 PC's . I had Samba 2.0.5 installed on a Sun system with Solaris 6, and a local network of PC's with W95 and W98, and everything was working fine. I then installed a new server with Solaris 8, and changed the IP addresses on the network, and the W98 PC was fine as was one of the W95 PC's, but 2 W95Pc's cannot see the Samba share, if I do

space in user dir?
This is obviously not a long term acceptable solution. Could someone please enlighten me as to the permanent solution, or at least see why it doesn't work? This is not my problem, therefore I have not had the opportuntity to test - I don't have a version that old. Let me know if it is solved in a newer version as well. Thanks. It is a workable solution, although the generally accepted

RES: squid authentication to samba 3
Yes, it is. I've made that some times... After having the Samba infra-structure running (winbind -u, winbind -g, winbind -a), you need to create some ACLs in squid.conf, take a look at: http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-23.html#winbind To check group membership you can use wbinfo_group or LDAP, I had some problems setting wbinfo_group with Samba 3.0.2, that's why I use LDAP. Win 2000 Prof in workgroup with samba 2.2.2
Hi folks, this is the problem: we have several Win2000 PRO SP2 working in workgroup (not joining the domain) with a unique local user. The server Samba acts with security = user, with no encrypted password and keeps the username/password of people who want to connect to it. People log on the W2000 with the same username/password kept into samba server but when we map a network drive, the samba

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much what it tells me. I'm just
