w32time and Samba PDC Domains
I see that the w32time service as it is configured when a Win2K Pro client joins a Samba PDC Domain is not configured in such a way that the service is able to successfully sync time with Samba.

time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I
have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but
my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command
manually logged in as a domain user:
net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3
but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

time server directive and synchronizing Win XP clients
Hi all!
I have configured a Samba PDC (3.0.7) on a Fedora Core 2 machine with LDAP
authentication (conform http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html). I
have about 180 Windows XP Pro clients using this PDC to log onto the
domain, which works great!
However I seem to have trouble synchronizing the time on the clients to
the time on the server. The users (in group Domain Users) do not have

ntp policy example question
I would like to configure a linux ntp server on my lan as the ntp server for
my windows xp clients
I'm not able to come to an understandable solution (due probably to my lack
in windows knowledge)
I found this in samba archives:

POLICY !!NTPServer

Purpose of param. "time server" ?
Hi,
I need to make a decision whether or not to install ntp server on my network
in order to give time source to WinXP workstations. I found this parameter
but I don't know how to employ it. I have got some unsure information about
new functionality (other then ntp and 'net time' service) on WinXP (DC)
server for setting clock on its workstations. Is it true ? And is "time

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list,
I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as
being a PDC. When I use
the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any
groups listed in the window
below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user
(who is member of more than one
group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd.

Help ! Logon script doesn't work on XP
Hi,
I have very strange problem:
I had created logon script (bat file dynamically generated by root peexec)
and tested it successfully on Win98 workstation.
Now I'm testing it on XP wkst., but the same (created by the same method)
script is during logon not executed.
What is absolutely mysterious for me ? The script is really read by
workstation durin logon - I saw it in network traffic

Issues while compiling samba 3.0.2a
Dear List,
First forgive me for my RTFM question yesterday about groups not appearing
in the Windows
usermanager (Karel Kulhav?, thanks for your reply). I did read the SAMBA
HOWTO Collection
but in a more 'vertical' way. This net groupmap thing must have passed my
attention.
I installed a prebuild version of Samba for redhat 8.0. Redhat however does
not compile in

defining client/server configs
Still very new to puppet, so go easy :-) Bit of a braindump I''m
afraid, but I''d really appreciate any "Yep", "interesting", "No!!!"
comments.
I''ll start with an example - adding NTP support. This primarily
consists of two configs:
a) NTP clients
- this is quite easy, it''s a templated file requiring the names of

Environments and tiers
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with multiple
environments/tiers?
For instance, we have several environments ( production, dev, qa,
etc.. ) and within each environment, different tiers ( web, data, app,
etc ). Each tier is a different IP network segment, so all the hosts
in each tier have different configurations for certain things like
resolv.conf, ntp.conf and so on.
We do

Hello all,
I try to set a ntp server in domainU, but other vms cannot synchronizes with the ntpserver VM. When I choose to set ntp server in domain0, synchronization can be done. Why is that?
I install xcp-xapi 1.5 on ubuntu server 12.04 64-bit.
Many thanks!

Hi,
I have configured samba 3.0.2 as Dfs root but it seems smbd dont translate
symlink to remote share name.
All targeted shares are from testing workstation directly accessible.
My config is:

debuglevel = 10
netbios name = SAMBAII
workgroup = XAMBA
security = user
domain logons = yes
preferred master = yes
domain master = yes

Problems with time synchronism on Samba 4 DC
Hi,
The Windows and Linux workstations are not synchronizing the time with the
Samba 4 DC. I have verified that the problem is permission.
I'm using Samba 4.6.3 on Debian 8.
In this way the stations are with different schedules from the DC.
Do I need to configure any GPOs?
What is the maximum time the computer clock can differ from DC ?

Joining Windows 10 Domain Member to Samba AD/DC
I have the impression your DC?s ntp server is not working properly for whatever reason. Your windows machines try to grab time for them, can?t, and then default to local coms clock or some other time source.
From a windows member machine, can you try :
w32tm /stripchart /computer:us.pool.ntp.org /dataonly /samples:5
That should work. Then try:
w32tm /stripchart /computer:your.dc.address

Time sync not working with Windows 10
After our office upgraded to Windows 10, time sync stopped working with the Windows
workstations. This used to work fine with Windows 7 and still works with linux domain members
(although that's not surprising).
The Windows 10 workstations ended up operating off the CMOS clock. We didn't notice this for a long
time since the CMOS clock drift is slow, but after several months users started

Time synchronization issue
Hi !
Actually, problem was located on client side, not samba side.
w32time has "disappeared" from services list (!)
the
w32tm /unregister and w32tm /register
solve the problem
My clients seem to be correctly synchronised with my AD DC now.
If i find out why w32time has disappeared, I'll post a message here.
Thank you for your help !
