Samba and Active Directory Permissions RESOLUTION
All, Thanks for the responses. There were two things I had to do to get this to work. The first thing was I had to change the readonly attribute in the smb.conf to NO. I also noticed that there was an error in my /etc/fstab so that the options were not read in for some reason. Once I fixed this and re-mounted the filesystem with the ACL option, I was able to do what I needed to do. Thanks

How to make it? Probably it's not the correct place in which make the question but maybe someone know the answer! Thanks to all

Permissions issue 3.0.2a
Hi, I have two users (one is me), connecting to the same directory tree on a Solaris box, for simplicity using smbclient for Samba 3.0.2a. In this tree, group permissions are set to rwx for a group that we are both in. I own some dirs, my colleague owns others. If I log in, I can put a file in any directory in the tree. If my colleague logs in, he can only write to directories that he owns.

slow to drill into directories
I have a samba server configured at a clients office and sometimes when he is drilling down into directories in his "File Explorer" it stalls. I tail'ed the log files and I ran tcpdump, but I can't see anything that stands out. What should I look at? I am running Samba Version 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian. brian -- Brian Lavender http://www.brie.com/brian/

Samba w/Winbind HA cluster
We are planning to build an HA cluster of samba servers, using winbind to authenticate against an Active Directory domain. The problem I see with this, is that the Winbind uid mappings will not necessarily be the same on both nodes in the HA cluster. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the winbind uid and gid mappings to match on 2 separate servers? Alex Laslavic Havertys Tech

Windows Read Only attribute, and Microsoft Excel.
I have recently started migrating a Win2k fileserver to a Samba 3.0.2a server. Running in full ADS mode, with winbind enabled for authentication against our Win2k PDC. I am also running as much of the ACL support as I can. The problem I am encountering involves excel documents. The documents are migrated from the Win2k server, to the Samba server, and are retaining all of the ACL's during

Print Server Degradation
Our Samba print server seems to slowly degrade, and get more and more errors over time, until it starts recieving "tdb fetch failed" messages, fatal errors, and getting INTERNAL PANIC's and dumping core etc.... I believe this to be related to .tdb corruption, but the tdbbackup utility does not see any problem with the TDB's. Eventually, certain printers will go

"security = user" security setting
Using Samba 3.x, we are looking at the "security" setting. We want to get "security = user" to work, preferably with user authentication independent from local /etc/passwd & shadow. But we don't want to use Samba-based authentication due to administrative overhead. Ideally, we want to tie in with a Windows Active Directory domain through Kerberos 5 so people can use

winbind_idmap.tdb not being updated
A few days ago I upgraded from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, and since the upgrade, the winbindd_idmap.tdb has not ever been modified, even after several restarts of samba, and reboots of the system in question. It appears that the UID mapping is still correct on the samba server, but I am just concerned that new user additions etc are not being stored to the tdb files. winbind_cache.tdb is being updated with

Creating Shares from Windows Management Console
All, I have what I hope is a small problem.... Here at RIT, we are testing using Samba 3.x hooked into windows AD for filesharing between Windows and Apple fileshares. The way we are set up is in a OU structure where there is really no one domain admin. We are split up into multiple OU's and each OU has an administrator. What we are trying to do is to get what I call an

RHEL3 3.0.9 Release & Active Directory Membership
Some preliminary testing indicates that there may be problems in the newly released Red Hat 3.0.9 packages (not samba.org's) in regard to joining an AD as a full member (w/kerberos). This may also affect maintaining current membership in such an environment. If anyone has already upgraded and is experiencing the same or different behavior please let me know. fileshare creation method
Has anyone tried, or knows of a way that I can give authority for a person to create a share from Windows, without adding them into the Administrative Users field in the smb.conf? Or is there a way I can automate this? I have a number of admins across campus who will need access to create shares through computer management. I can do it as long as there is a valid account in the Admnistrative
