syntax for playlist
I should be more specific . What I meant to ask was - is it necessary for the directory that icecast streams or serves files from to "everyone" or the "world" have at least read permissions. I do plan to experiment with the permisions but I was just asking to see if any one had already tried this. I like to lock down my system as much as possible.
Thanks for the help!

NT Domain Integration
This is probably a frequent problem, but I haven't been able to find an
answer.
I recently installed samba 2.0.5a on Sun Solaris 2.6 server. There is only
one share on the server that I want to be accessible. I have set up the
share using the following smb.conf file: (obviously, the specific info has
been changed).

Debugging Samba is a total PITA and this needs to improve

AD Member server and local UNIX groups
Greetings,
I hope someone can tell me if what I want to do is possible with Samba
or not. I have been searching for info and found a number of people
with similar problems, but not an answer.
I have a Samba server (3.2.4) running on a Solaris 10 machine which is a
member server in Active Directory (AD). I am using winbind. The AD
users can access the samba server shares and UNIX services.

Configuration Problems
Hello all
I need some help understanding what is failing with my Samba installation.
I compiled Samba 2.0.6 on a Sparc Ultra-II Solaris 2.6, using GCC version
2.8.1. I have read in some of the docs that there may be some support for
shadow passwords but could not find a definition regarding shadow in any of
the compile scripts.
The SMB and NMB processes are running as deamons.
I am unable

2.2.5 upgrade bug report - winbindd and password servers
Boy this was a big scary headache! As well, I really wish the samba upgrade
didn't wipe my changes to /etc/pam.d/samba and /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb (back
them up instead, please).
Situation:
Upgrading Samba from 2.2.4 to 2.2.5. Samba is using winbindd for
authentication.
Problem:
Under 2.2.4, smb.conf originally contained a password server
specified by
IP address:

Winbind panic - bug #5551 not completely solved in version 3.0.31?
I started my AD-member server with the DC not being present.
Afterwards, I executed the "good practice" sequence from the howtos for
testing a installation:
"testparm ..."
"nmblookup -d ..."
"nmblookup -M ..."
"nmblookup __SAMBA__ ..."
"smbclient -L ..."
And some domain tests:
"net ads testjoin"
"net ads lookup"

winbind trouble...
Hi again,
thanx Jeremy, the pam-devel package was missing to compile pam_winbind... it was tooo obvious :-(
After my 5th day trying to get samba to talk to my W2k-Server, I still have problems!
I just want samba to do authentication with the w2k-server's help and without unix-useraccounts.
So far, winbind is up and running, and fter have the user switched to Administrator with wbinfo

makefile and path questions
Hi!
This morning, I found a system that was still running an ancient
samba. I immediately upgraded it to samba 1.9.18p1 and had the
opportunity to fiddle with the make file after not doing this for a
couple of months.
The default makefile sorts the files like this:
BINDIR (/usr/local/samba/bin)
smbpasswd
smbrun
smbclient
testparm
testprns
smbrun
smbstatus
smbpasswd

Samba 3, AD, and roaming profiles
Greetings,
I have been working on getting Samba 3.0.20rc2 on a Sun Solaris box to
play nice with our institution's Active Directory (AD) environment. The
AD set-up is pretty plain and I have no ability to make changes to its
configuration - a different department runs that show.
Should I be able to store the roaming profile information on my Samba
server in an AD environment? The rest

XP can see Linux but Win98 can't
Dear Samba List:
Thx in advance for all help that can be provided. I have set up a
samba server on a RedHat 8.0 box, and I know I've got it configured
correctly, because I can do everything I would ever want to do with it
with a networked Windows XP laptop. However, a third and fourth
machine, both running 98SE, also on the network, cannot see the server,
no matter what I try. These two

nobody logon but guest ok = no
I have an annoying problem with my new (and first) SAMBA PDC deployment.
Valid users are being connected to the root directory "/" of my server

Newbie question - Wrong Way to map a share?
After a recent upgrade (details below) as many as 30 percent of our
returning users are having trouble mapping SAMBA shares of their home
directories on the "terra" server. Many report that the problem "just
goes away." I've only been able to pin down a couple of them.
Here's what I see. User tries to map the drive, fails, and get a box
with the window:

There was a local user with the same username but that user was deleted

ACL: some maybe stupid questions
Hi.
I want to use ACL on my RH-9.0 box (x86), so I got ext3 ACL patch from
http://acl.bestbits.at/ and tried to apply it to the kernel that ships
with RH (2.4.20-8). The patching fails on some vm file so I got a vanila
kernel 2.4.20, apply the patch and compile it. This works fine. Also
RH-9.0 precompiled Samba 2.2.7 works fine with ACL.
I connected to my share with WinXP and do some testing
