HELP! SNV_97,98,99 zfs with iscsitadm and VMWare!
I''m not sure if this is a problem with the iscsitarget or zfs. I''d greatly appreciate it if it gets moved to the proper list. Well I''m just about out of ideas on what might be wrong.. Quick history: I installed OS 2008.05 when it was SNV_86 to try out ZFS with VMWare. Found out that multilun''s were being treated as multipaths so waited till SNV_94 came out to

Problem with win2k and winXP
Hello, I have a network, where users want to login with their same username from Windows 2000 and from Windows XP on a samba PDC. When the machines logon, I can see the OS in the logfile of the machine on my server, but i cannot use different profiles for Win2k and WinXP, because the %a in smb.conf always gives back Win2k. The profiles of win2k and winXP aren't compatible, so i can't just

However if the secretary leaves the software running but doing nothing

I'm tying to set up a member server for serving files following the instructions at: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs. Since I'm not an expert with log files or debugging, I need help troubleshooting the following: When I get to the part where I connect to the member server from the Windows Computer Management tool, I get a long message starting with

unable to browse samba server with Win98, but it works with WinXP
Hello, I have samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 bundled with CentOS 4.3 x86_64 and I can't browse it with Win98. I have a very simple setup, Share type, with access to everyone. If I double-click on the server name from Win98, I have this message: "\\server is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network." If I type the whole path to the share(ex: \\server\transfer), in Win98, it

Wheezy member Server - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hello List! I have a Samba AD domain with two virtualized DC's running 4.1.15 and 4.1.17. I have had two member file servers with odd permissions problems that I've now given up on, and decided to start fresh. I have created a File server (FS3) with Debian wheezy, built samba 4.1.17 from source, with configure options of : --with-ads --with-shared-modules=idmap_ad ... and placed the

Domain Member Server (wheezy) - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hello again List, Marc, and Louis! I'm afraid my message from yesterday may have been TL;DR. The short version is as follows: Following the wiki's for AD member server (building from source on Debian Wheezy) and Setting up shares with Windows acls did not give the expected results First, I needed to link libnss_winbind.so to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu for winbind to work. Domain Member Server (wheezy) - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hello all, Sorry about the top-posting. I have added the bit about the linking (YAY!, I'm helping!). Now if we can clear up the ACL issue, this will be a great day! Summary: To edit ACL's from Windows on a Debian Member server, we need to either 1) map the domain admin to root OR 2) give explicit permissions to Domain Admins with a chmod 0755 and chgrp "MYDOM\Domain Admins"

*****SPAM***** Re: Domain Member Server (wheezy) - Unable to edit permissions of share without usermapping - shall I add to Wiki?
Hi Rowland, Chown to Administrator seems less flexible than Chgrp to Domain Admins on the face of it. You could add/remove users from the Domain Admins group, which allows/denies them the ability to change the permissions on the share. By changing the owner to Administrator, only those credentials would have that ability, no? What advantages do you predict with the change owner approach? What

Hi Rowland, I'm also not an expert, but with the amount of help you provide on the list, I will defer to you. I'd love to know your rational for prefering the "change ownership to administrator" approach over the "change group to Domain Admins approach". If it's just gut, that's fine too! Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: samba-bounces at

Polycom 550 IP SoundStation Fuzzy Voice Quality
I'm setting up a new Asterisk system on a Dell server and I'm getting "fuzzy" voice between the Polycom IP SoundStation 550 and the Asterisk server. I've checked all of my codec settings and both the Asterisk and the Polycom agree on u-Law encoding. I'm using the latest release of the Asterisk code (1.4.17) and other software. If I call between phones (i.e. two

Print Queues Dying!!
It started with one networked printer but it appears to have spread to another and now all networked printers occasionally go down. We have several JetDirect boxes and one NetGear PS101 printer server served by CUPS, the Windows computers access the print queues via Samba 3.0.2 on RedHat Enterprise Server 3. This is a very problematic issue and it is getting worse. We used this same type of set

Microsoft KB835732 Update Disrupting Samba Connections
I'm not 100% sure it's that WinXP KB835732 update but it's the only thing that has been changed in the last two days. Machines are regularly losing their network connections, mapped drives, and printers, leading to lockup and crashes. I found this in the samba logs of the affected machines.
