Changing 'winbind use default domain' to yes breaks group share permissions
In order to support another project which I wanted to use winbind authentication for, I had to turn 'winbind use default domain' on. This seems to have disabled my ability to set group permissions on a share. My windbind separator is '-'. Before, I would give a group access to a share by putting '@DOMAIN-Group Name' in the list of valid users for the share. After setting

printing question
I have some more information concerning my print management speed issues from last week. In a level 10 log, I see several 'print cache expired for queue <printername>' whenever I try to open the Printers folder. After uploading a driver, I see the same behavior when trying to close the Properties window. This makes administration unbearably slow. I am about to try non-cups printing

printer management speed
Hello, We are testing Samba 3 as a replacement for our Windows 2000 file and print services. I have noticed that doing any printer management operation seems to take a very long time. Opening the 'Printers' share on the samba server takes 10-15 seconds and opening Properties for a printer has taken anywhere from 15 seconds to well over a minute depending on the printer. Performing the

Mounting through my ISP works/doesn't work.. Verizon Avenue problems... :-(
Hi, I HAD Verizon ONLINE. I was ABLE to mount samba served machines from the internet... eg \\strange.dreamhost.com\ from my XP box. I switched to Verizon AVENUE. Now I can't. (When I go through a VPN, though, I am able to mount the directory going around Verizon Avenue's network) I'm thinking this is a port restriction that Verizon Avenue has going on. I'm trying to

More mount_smbfs
Thanks to Will Saxon I'm finally able to mount Samba shares on my 5.1-R box using the command mount_smbfs -I 129.197.36.34 -W acct01 //bfosdick@129.197.36.34/net-11 /sp/net-11 which then prompts me for my password. So now the question is...how do I put this in /etc/fstab? What do I do about the password?

Samba AD and roaming profile permissions
I'm running Samba 4.7.0 on FreeNAS 11.1-U2. It's configured as an Active Directory Domain Controller, and I'm trying to configure roaming profiles. I've created a profile dataset in ZFS that uses Windows permissions. I've configured the share and file system permissions as described in the "Using Windows ACLs" section of:

Re-2: SOLVED - idmap_rid / roaming profile permissions /NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM
because the same samba fileserver will also have the home directories for linux users! According to the smb.conf man pages, the value auto will corretcly apply case insensitivity for windows users, and case sensitive for the linux users. Of course I don't know what will happen if a linux user creates two files with the same name and different case, and then logs in from a windows

nls profile with port/constraints
Sorry to report further difficulties with nls and profiling and constraints ... the problem this time (which I didn't check for in my last round of testing) is that the nls profiler doesn't seem to respect constraints that have been set when using the port algorithm. See test code below ... If I can I will try to hack the code, but I will probably start by redefining my function with

idmap_rid / roaming profile permissions / NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
I'm struggling with roaming profile permissions as I can not "see" the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account. I have: -samba file server with acl 3.0.14a -authentication with winbind and idmap_rid against Windows 2003 ADS -using "default domain" in smb.conf for winbind The roaming profile directories are on the samba machine under the users home directory. As noted on several

Inclusive language in LLVM: can we rename `master` branch?
While you can go the route of changing master to main or something similar, you're up for a circlejerk you can not win. If you change technically established terms each time someone gets offended, this will never end. As a comparison, when studying in europe, you do your Master-Degree. In Germany, when you finish your apprenticeship as carpenter and do the next level, to actually lead with

need roaming profile + local profile
Hi I've got a samba pdc set up but I've got a strange problem. Everything works fine I can login with the roaming profile BUT I also need a local profile, without the local profile he says that he cannot find the domain name. And the local profile has to be administrator or he doesn't remember my preferences of all my programs and settings. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We
