Help! messed up user rights with word and samba 3.0.x
Hello everybody!
I need help with a curious problem referring to Word and Samba.
I've installed a network with a Samba 3.0.2 PDC and fileserver and about 8
Windows Clients ranging from w2k prof (members of the domain) to XP home. The
XP Home users have an account within the domain and so can "mount" the Samba
share as a local drive on their computers. All of the users are members

inconsistence behavior concerning security
Hi all, I have a share for 2 groups of users in which I need this behavior:
Group A: can create/delete files
Group B: only can modify files
I solve this with a share rw for both groups, and FS directory permissions are 2770 and groupA is the owner of the directory, and an acl for groupB which is r-x
Then the default acl for this directory is rwx for GroupB, so, when something is created here,

3.0.24 -- Office read only issue, bizarre EAs and disappearing ACLs
Everyone,
I have finally resolved the new heartburn 3.0.24 on Ubuntu Feisty was
giving me and have stumbled upon some information that might help others
out there.
I was seeing problems with ACL entries getting mangled and disappearing,
Excel making files read only and extended attributes doing bizarre
things. The solution revolved around what appears to be a change in how
ACLs are managed.

Excel makes files read-only when users save
I'm having a problem that I've seen people talk about in the list
archives. Unfortunately I haven't found any solutions that work. It is a
documented bug and I've added my story to it.
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2346
I'm posting my problem here as well because it is causing me some
serious grief. For the past few months I have been working towards

Samba 3.0.1pre3/ldap - Strange gid mappings server side
Good day,
I'm running some tests with Samba 3.0.1pre3 with an LDAP sam. LDAP has been,
to the best of my abilities, properly populated with the needed group
mappings. The "net groupmap list" command indeed shows the following:
[root@box bin]# ./net groupmap list
Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-2009448231-1530593524-1969381020-512) -> domadm

3.0.24 and disappearing ACL entries
I've been working at this for a few days now and I can't figure out what
is broken. Google turns up similar issues from years back, but I hope
this is a bug resurfacing. ACL entries are being deleted when files are
saved. Here is an example:
username: user1
group membership: Domain Users
directory: /share/test
file: test.xls
getfacl /share
# file: share
# owner: DOMAIN+backupuser

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file:
[root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/
[root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al
total 1232
drwxrws---+ 8 root

Problem with Excel Files and Acls
Hi,
I've allready seen a lot of posts about problems with Excel 2000, but I
couldn't find one exactly matching my case.
I'm using a self (and maybe badly) compiled samba 3.0.20 on debian, using
ACLs. We're using ADS and winbind (some older NT4 domains remain)
The users can't open some excel files, spitting a message such as 'the file is

Problem with 3.0.7
Hello everybody,
when accessing a file, (opening and closing it, excel tries to restore old times.
I can delete the file, rename and everything else, but i'm not able to reset the times....
Owner of the file is user2 which is also member of group 1.
If i create a file and user1 opens it, the access times are reset correctly. (same share, directory)
i have the following error message:

Extended ACL stealing ownership on 3.2.7
Hi all,
After setting permissions on a file. If anyone authorised to open the
file writes to it, the ACL gets deleted and that person becomes the
owner of the file and the group is reset to the default. For example,
whenever a certain user opens and changes a file in the problem folder
he becomes the owner and another gets kicked of the list:
More clearly, lee was the last one to write to this

Cannot install printers via CUPS in Samba3.0.2a on debian sarge
Hello,
please help me:
After searching for nearly 2 weeks for a solution, I have to ask for
assistance:
System:
debian sarge - update from an working installaton on woody (without printing)
Now the samba server joins ADS, authenticates users, but should also provide
printers.
I have installed cups, configured my smb.conf:

configure failed, with option --with-ads (samba3.0.2a)
I'm trying to do the same...join samba server to AD domain as domain member...and was able to pass this problem by compiling and installing openldap (configure --without-bdb --disable-bdb --enable-null --disable-slapd --disable-slurpd) and then compiled and installed MIT kerberos (configure --without-krb4 --enable-dns --enable-dns-for-kdc --enable-dns-for-realm)
How far have you gotten now?
