Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi. I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the

Issues with r8169 gige on boot.
Hi all, I've recently upgraded a system from CentOS 4.4 to CentOS5, and now when the system boots, the r8169 ethernet card doesn't come up. After the boot sequence, if I type "ifup eth1 | ifup eth1.10 | ifup eth1.203" then the adapter starts up ok. It seems to be something with the boot sequence it loads the ethernet adapters a different way around (ie 4.4 eth0 is now

Samba / CUPS / Drivers
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use different driver file downloads for different printers on the system? As of what I can see in all doc-files I can only use ONE set of drivers for all added printers? F.x. I have one printer that is handled by CUPS' PPD system, and one printer that uses RAW. So, the first printer (PPD) should have its feed in postscript format from

Execute .exe files from a Samba share
Hi! I'm experimenting with SuSE Linux and Samba 2.2.5 as a PDC, so far, everything works perfectly well, aside from that if I store an .exe file on a network mapped drive (from the Samba server) it can't be run? The workstation is a Windows XP Pro SP1, connecting to the Samba running as a PDC with LDAP backend. The machine and user logon works perfectly, but I can't execute .exe

Pop-up messages to domain members?
Is it possible to send a pop-up message to all connected Windows stations in a whole domain via one command, or is it necessary to send one message per command to each station? It must be a command line utility since X isn't running on the server. Anders Norrbring

Can't see shares...
I can't figure out what's wrong with my config, I can see the share \\beata\anders, but not store0 or store1; # smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SUSE if the # samba-doc package is installed. # Date: 2011-03-01 [global] workgroup = NORRBRING passdb backend = tdbsam

Several logon script bat files?
I simply wonder if I can have several different logon script bat files for MS Win users that validates through my Samba PDC? Let's say that group "users" should have logon batch users.bat and the members of the group "sales" should have both users.bat and sales.bat executed at logon? Or can I in some way use ONE script with parameters that knows about what groups the user

Firewall transparancy?
Hi! I was thinking, is there a way to use a linux box with Samba running in the DMZ of a firewall and to validate logons from the internal network? I.e. the users workstations are on the protected net on 192.168.111.xx and the Samba PDC resides in the DMZ, running subnet 192.168.222.xx. If it's possible, what ports need to be open? Integrated RTL8168/8111 NIC not assigned interface
I'm running 7.0-RELEASE-i386 on Jetway's NC92-N230 mainboard. The board has one integrated RTL8168/8111 gigabit NIC as well as an expansion board with three RTL8168/8111 NICs. Why would the three NICs work while the onboard NIC does not? none2@pci0:1:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0x816810ec chip=0x816810ec rev=0x02 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor' device

OT: NIC Problem (Fwd: In response to your USRobotics technical support questions, your case #:300882125)
And my last post on the matter. This is why I won't do business with USR again anytime soon. They couldn't even be bothered to tell me this on my first query to them. That RTL8169 thing...
Motherboard - Intel DG41TY Device: RealTek: 8111D Driver: RTL8169 Causes Kernel panic during install and boot. -- It seems that the newer the card that uses this driver, the worse the problems are. Is there any plan to roll a newer version into the installer or the actual distribution itself? Thanks, -Drew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

rtl8169 kernel dump
I installed 5.2 x86_64 on a new hp dv7z laptop using noprobe on the install line. After rebooting the rtl8169 causes the kernel to dump. Is there a parameter I can pass to it (somehow) to avoid the kernel dump??? Thanks, Jerry

net use /home ?
Is 'net use x: /home' deprecated nowadays? I just upgraded a very old Samba 2 to 3.2.8 and suddenly no workstations at all can use that command to map to their home directories. Workstations are W2k, Win XP and Vista in a mix. Neither work. Samba use LDAP as back end, and the related posts in smb.conf are these: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\.msprofile logon script = login.bat logon home

Trying to find a bottleneck
I'm trying to get my network setup as streamlined as possible. I ran a brain-dead-simple speed test of Samba and I'm very confused by the results. Here's my setup: Fast new WinXP Pro machine NetGear GA311 gigabit ethernet ^ | dedicated gigabit ethernet line (no switch) v RTL8169 gigabit ethernet Relatively fast new Debian Linux machine I set up ramdisks on both
