authenticating IIS 6.0 against samba?
I have a windows 2003 server joined to my domain. I'd like to have IIS
6.0 on the 2k3 server authenticating against samba so that windows
sharepoint services can be used. I've tried getting NTLM authentication
working following instructions at

mounting/connection to 2003 shares (members servers and domain controllers)
After a long and ardous search (I didn't find anything on the mailing
lists though weird) -- I've found the gold at the end of the rainbow.
It appears that domain controllers in Active Directory will by default,
require digital signatures (and perhaps encryption) for the smb protocol.
This breaks *DOS/LANMAN* clients to connecting to Windows 2003 and of
course versions of samba less than

The Solution for: Samba+ADS, w2k clients can't access samba by ne tbios name
As many of us suffer this problem I would like to share my success with the
list. This weekend I made this configuration work !
After this procedure you can access the samba machine, from any client
(Win-XP, Win2k, Win2k3, Win9x and WinNT) using
\\samba-netbios-name\share-name (using kerberos) or
\\samba-ip-address\share-name (using NTLM)

Asterisk and MS Exchange 2007
Hi,
Here you can find a list of MS Exchange 2007 compliant systems:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/telephony-advisor.mspx
You cannot see mention of Asterisk ;-))
Has anyone tried to "integrate" Asterisk and Exchange 2007 ?
A prospective customer is using MS Exchange 2007 and is asking for such
integration.
Passion aside, what do you think of such integration ?

Moving Domains - profiles question
Hi,
I have an existing WinNT domain and, after some labour, a new Samba3x
domain. I created the Samba domain with a different name because the
WinNT domain name wasn't appropriate. I have about 40 users. Their
accounts have been added to the new domain. I'm almost ready to shift
everyone to the new domain but I am a bit concerned about the user's
profiles. These are local profiles. I

Access Based Enumeration
Microsoft has an add on for Windows 2003 SP1 that will do access based
enumeration.
This is great because of "out of sight, out of mind". If the user
doesn't have privilege to access the directory or file it doesn't show
up in the directory listing.

Any idea when samba will be able to do the same (if it

XP SP2 and slow logins/offline files sync: RPC changes?
I posted a while back (twice, actually), about some long delays with
offline files sync and, to a lesser extent, domain logins with Windows
XP SP2.
This is Samba 3.0.7 (ldapsam backend) on Mandrakelinux 9.2 and 10.0,
with XP SP1 clients. I make use of WINS and everything works fine for
SP1 clients.
Here's what I found since then: after the client is joined to the Samba
(NT) domain,

Restricting to a subset of the domain controllers on a site
Had a situation where users could not map drives from Windows XP to
Solaris 9 system running Samba-3.0.10 for Active Directory. This
system has been running for a couple of years without problems. Now
recently, the site administrators have added some new servers to the
domain which may have introduced a problem.
This krb5.conf file has been modified to hide the site in question.

[Fwd: Re: Migrating to samba from windows NT domain]
Yes, this would be possible;
1. Vampire your accounts on to a new Samba DC
2. Disconnect it from network
3. Denote your NT Dc's
4. Rejoin them to the Samba Domain
NOTE: As the other person said, while possible, this would be a bitch of
a job.
You said you need to maintain your NT server anyway, why not just put
the files and printers and what not on samba and leave the user accounts

Problems with Samba and security hardened WinXP SP2 clients
We're running Fedora Core and Samba-3.0.8-0.pre1.3 and we're authenticating
our Windows XP users against Active Directory running on Windows 2003.
Everything works fine!
But now we're trying to secure and harden our WinXP machines and now when
any user logged into a secured WinXP they get the errormessage "The account
is not authorized to log in from this station". I browsed

Security considerations with displaying uploaded HTML
I have an application where I am allowing users to upload (or refer the
app. to) arbritrary HTML that I am (currently) displaying in an IFRAME
on a page. The users will be authenticated so it''s not open to the
entire universe.
I was always uneasy with this, but after reading the security chapter of
AWDWR, I am even more concerned.
What kinds of applications do people have out there

Migrating to samba from windows NT domain
Hello,
I'm planning migration to Samba over Debian Etch servers from NT
domain with Windows NT servers.
I have only one domain, with 1 PDC and 5 BDC distributed on various subnets.
Unfortunately I have running various services in PDC and BDC servers
that I must remain after the migrations, so I can't stop PDC and BDC
servers permanently after the migration to Samba.
Can I deactivate
