Auto mapping to windows home drives?
This could be quite simple but I don't know how to do it. Does anyone know how I can automatically mount a users home drive (which is located on a windows server) when they log in? Is there a pam module for that? Thanks very much, Sapan

Repost: Cached credentials not working
Hello all, I'm setting up a domain using Samba 3.0 as PDC, with WinXP clients. One of these clients is a laptop, which should be able to use cached profiles of the domain users. Online logon is working fine, however when the domain server is not available it cannot logon, whereas it should be able to use cached credentials to access the cached profile. Windows says it cannot log on because

(Repost to list) Copying large files xp pro -> Samba very slow
I previously posted this to the linux.samba mailing list. I'm not sure that was the right place, so here it is again. Apologies if you've already seen it. Hi, I would really appreciate any hep with a big problm I'm having with XP (Pro / SP1 ) transferring to a samba share. The transfer starts off OK, using about 66% of my 100Mbs network. Then, after about 10-15 seconds, it drops off

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi, I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some good news group postings, or a HOWTO? I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is, and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings. Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or hold any

Repost: Temporary files with word
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.14a. One of my users is experiencing a lot of temporary files created by winword 2003. Winword does delete the temp files under any other userid. The only difference I know of is that the problematic user was created after the automatic switch from samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.14a (during an upgrade from debian woody

Slow listing of mapped drives in Explorer
We recently moved our Linux file servers from Debian Woody to Debian Etch (v4.0r3). We use the current stable Debian Samba package which is version 3.0.24. Since moving to this Samba version from 2.2.8a-0.1 we see that Windows clients are very slow to list the 5 network drives mapped by our domain login script in Explorer or "My Computer". It can take 10 seconds or so before the drives

Repost: 'We dont' find this rid' error - can't join a domain
I'm posting this again in the hope that someone can shed some light on the error - I've included logs and as much detail as I can! Chris -------- Original Message -------- I'm using Samba 2.2.8a on Red Hat 8. I was able to set up Samba running as a PDC and have my Windows 2000 client join the domain and authenticate users, map home drives, etc, without any problems. I've now

Simple question on Wins...
Just something I thought about today really. Since I am running samba 2.2.8a as a PDC on my network and all of my workstations for my clients are Windows 2000 Pro, would it be better to set up the PDC to run as a wins server? wins server = yes I was just curious because I found some documentation on the wins server option, but for the most part, it was glossed over with real no explanation.

Questions on Roaming Profiles
Hello everyone. Well, I have a couple of questions regarding roaming profiles. I have been assigned the task of setting up a Samba PDC on our network. Lately, I have been doing a lot of research and reading to find out the best way I setup my system. I have a couple of questions I wanted to ask here, in hopes of getting some feedback. First, some details: The server will be Red Hat 8.0 with

Compiling 2.2.8a with SSL support on Solaris 7
I'm running into a problem when compiling Samba 2.2.8a with SSL support on Solaris 7. The build appears to be choking on redefinitions between the Openssl des.h and kerberos/des.h (which is grabbed because it is on the system). Here's the error I'm getting: In file included from /usr/local/include/openssl/evp.h:89, from /usr/local/include/openssl/x509.h:67,

Repost: Help - compilation of winbind_nss_solaris.c/3.0.21a/Solaris 7 and older fails
I would really appreciate help ! I did not have any reply to my two posts and I don't know what to do. I can't build 3.0.21a and I have to migrate 54 Solaris 2.5.1 servers from 2.2.8a to 3.0.x. I'm afraid we could not move to newer solaris versions before 12 or 18 months. Under is the problem description. Thank you for your help. Pierre --------- SOLARIS 7 --------- On Solaris 7

Authenticate to existing NTDomain and map to nobody? (Repost)
Hello group. Sorry, if this shows twice. I have the following setup requirement, and so far searching the INET and the mailing archives has brought me nothing. I have an existing WindosNT/2k/XP domain. I need to share a directory on a Slackware 9.0 (recent samba). I need the users authenticated to the Windows Domain, but all then mapped to nobody (i.e. I do NOT want to map windows
