--include-from doesn't include
I'm trying to backup certain pieces of my XP workstations home directory
to a mapped drive using rsync on Cygwin. I was able to create a fairly
useful exclude-from list, but I'm unable to re-include portions a subset
of an excluded directory. My rsync command looks like this:
rsync -avn --delete --stats ~/ \
/cygdrive/i/HRMS/rdavies/backup/home \

samba mounting files
Hi
whenever i try to mount a samba share which is a samba server i get an error

mounts(500, 500) smbmnt failed1"
On that note i tried to run "smbmount" as root but this did't work out. i also
tried to run smbmnt as root, up to now my problem was not solved.
Anybody there who can help please?

Homedir access rights and running KDE
Hello,
I use pam_winbind for users authentification and pam_mount for mounting homedirs stored on w2k3 fiel server.
I still have two more problems to solve:
1. I?m not able to set proper access rights on homedir. I want to set
them to 700 but after mounting the homedir access rights are set to 777.
I used to use pam_mkhomedir umask=0077 attribute to set proper rights,
but this have no effect

RE: samba problem
Hi Alexander,
The kind of firewall i have uses the basic iptables which came with the
installation CDs of linux-SuSE.
I installed SuSE 8.1 which has a firewall that has to be activated. But now, u
know, i can't find the file containing the iptables so as to adjust the
rules. When i try "iptables -L" in console mode i can see all the rules.
I think i need to add some new rules

No login with kernel 2.6.18-164.el5
Hello,
since kernel 2.6.18-164.el5 no user could login any more from nfs client
into his home directory on nfs server. The kde error message is:
"The following installation problem was detected while trying to start

error 'Permission denied'

/home is exported with nfs4 (gss/krb5), the

[Fwd: accessing shares]
John: I wanted to add that I have no problem logging into the samba
server with a domain account, as long as it's not through KDE. The first
time error's out complaining about DCOPServer and not being able to
write to the home directory....don't know if this is relevant.
My experience is very limited on Unix and Samba. Please forgive me if
the answer is right in front of me.

When i go to Yast Control center i can see that the user log in is set to

Is this what you meant?

Fwd: machine account with strange behaviour
Hi Oliver,
My opinion is that try delleting the machine name using the 'control center'
and delete the machine account in the passwd file. Then add the machine name
again using "control center, edit & creat users ", then In console add the
machine using: # smbpasswd -a -m <machinename>. Note i managed to do this on
SuSE 8.1. Please send me an email if u're

Problem with NT -> Samba User Configuration: Probably very simple
Hi All,
my problem is I am unable to configure an NT user to access a UNIX Tru64
5.1b share from their PC. I am running Samba 2.0.7 and it runs as a domain
member.
Here are the steps I have completed without success:
Assuming <ntuser> is the NT username used to log into the NT workstation/PC.
1. Created UNIX user <username>
2. Created UNIX directory

I appear to be attacking others
It looks like my CentOS 4.2 box is attacking other people with some type
of ftp attack. I got an email from somebody saying they were being
attacked by my IP address.
Further investigation /var/log/messages shows a whole bunch of sshd
attacks on me, none of which appear successful. I'm running ethereal
right now and I can see that my system is doing some kind of ftp attacks
on others.

reduce the size of samba 3.0 binary
I installed samba 3.0. It works.
But the only problem is that the whole binary package is > 800MB (Solaris 2.8)
It's a big package to fit in a 2g of / partition.
Is there way we can reduce the size of the binary by select function/local/etc?
I don't need all the funcations it supports.
Only support UNIX nfs data to PC.
thanks,
Jeffrey
