How did you get it work? I've tried the "server signing = yes or auto", but
it didn't work.
Could you kindly tell us how to set the XP to get it

pwdump for ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) needed!
Hi,
We are migrating from Unix Server to Linux, so the ASU (Advanced Server for
Unix) will be replaced by Samba. The pwdump for Nt is pretty for Windows NT,
but I don't know if there is an Unix dump tool to transfer the ASU SAM
database to the Samba's smbpasswd file. Any help is welcomed!
Thanks in advance,

join domain problem with Samba 3.0 alpha18
Hi,
I've compiled the SAMBA 3.0 alpha18 with all default options and installed
well. Then I would join my NT 4.0 machine using the following steps (manual,
not On the fly):
# useradd -g groupid -d /dev/null -c "comment" -s /bin/false -m
machine_name$
# passwd -l machine_name$
# smbpasswd -a -m machine_name$
after that I tried to join my NT4.0 to the Samba PDC, but it failed

[Shorewall-users] Redirect loc::80 to fw::3128 not work (fwd)
I''m beginning to believe that the use of the last column in the rules file
to designate redirection/forwarding is too subtle for many users. For 1.3,
I think I''ll do something like the following:
Current rule:
ACCEPT net loc:192.168.1.3 tcp 80 - all
New rule:
FORWARD net loc:192.168.1.3 tcp 80
Current rule:
ACCEPT net fw::3128 tcp 80 - all
New rule:
REDIRECT net

Redirect loc::80 to fw::3128 not work
The rule:
ACCEPT loc $FW::3128 tcp www
doesn''t work propertly, the http access does not redirect
to squid but directly exit.
what''s wrong?
Thanks

Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi,
I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a
FC2 system.
If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the
network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a
message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents.
I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This
thread mentioned that

Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 fails
Hi,
I tried to upgrade samba on a Linux from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0, and after the
upgrade the printer sharing fails. I would like to participate in the
search for the bug (if it is a bug), but I don't know how to start.
If this is not a bug I would like to know why not, and how to work
around, that the printer does not work with the attached smb.conf, while
it works with samba version 2.2.8a

trust relationship with SAMBA 3.0 alpha19
Hi,
I'm using SAMBA 3.0 alpha19 to try the trust relationship between an NT 4.0
domain and the samba domain. The command I used was "net rpc trusdom", but
it did'nt work, also the other "net" commands worked bad ( Segmentation
Fault or return -1 ecc.). Could you kindly to tell me how to do to set the
trust relationship with the SAMBA 3.0, or if there is any docs for

dovecot and libnss-ldap
Hi,
I've been using dovecot 0.99.14 for a few years, with libpam-ldap and
libnss-ldap, and never experienced any problem with those. I expect to
soon switch to dovecot 1.0rc15 (or whatever gets available in Debian
Etch, hopefuly dovecot 1.0), but I've seen some warnings against
dovecot+libnss-ldap...
Is the problem with libnss-ldap a recent problem (I mean it was not a

pblms with samba 2.X /3.x and NT--W2k
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong somewhere.
EITHER a WHOLE bunch of us are stupider than we thought, the documentation left off a step, or there is something SO blatently obvious that we are ALL staring it in the face and missing it inches in front of our faces.
This is exactly what I've had, (BUT I *D*I*D* have it running ok ...)
and I STILL havent figured it out yet,...

Proposal for Ruby on Rails for the SOC.
Hi list,
I''m sorry to come here talking about this (since I realize you have
many, far better things to do, but I''d really like your feedback on an
idea I have for the summer of code.
I''d like to work with the guys at Ruby Central on implementing a
feature for Ruby on Rails, and since you guys are the best source of
information on the subject, I''d like to ask

re: website samba.org is missing most of the documentation?
Although I've installed samba-common, -server, -doc version 2.2.7a (from
the Mandrake 9 distribution), thr -doc RPM is broken since it actually
didn't install any of the files it claimed it would.
No problem, I thought, I'll just read it online.
Except for some reason, in his/her infinite wisdom, your webmaster has
apparently decided not to put most of your documentation on your

Samba3.0.2a, MS Office (Excel), Save problem.
Hi all,
I've done a brief search of the list archieves and cannot find any
solutions to this problem, so I'll post my story and hopefuly someone will
have a better answer.
Brief Description:
This problem has now occured with a number of users, running different
versions of Office (see below).
When saving documents, Office seems to set the read-only bit. The problem
is best shown with
