I can use 'Find PC' on NT. But can't browse network! Could somebody

Hello everyone, I'm sorry for this long post, but I think there is a real understanding problem for many people on ADS domain membership. I'm not the first to post about this type of problem, however I didn't find an answer to it in the archives and I followed the HOWTO-collection. Well, this is what I'm doing : I am using samba-3.0.1 compiled from source, MIT kerberos 1.3.1

Samba clients losing domain membership
Hello, we are currently in the process of migrating Windows machines to Ubuntu 10.04. For now, these machines act as samba clients in a Windows domain (which is controlled also by a samba PDC), and are itself sharing files via SMB/CIFS. The clients are - from time to time and with no apparent reason - losing their domain membership. When this happens, access to shares on the PDC still seems to

Hi, After installing service pack 1 on our SBS 2K3 server, mac osx client (10.4.3) couldn't connect anymore (make_connection: refusing to connect with no session setup), so I upgraded to 3.0.20b-2 but the problem didn't go away. smb.conf: [global] realm = SOMEDOMAIN.LOCAL workgroup = SOMEDOMAIN password server = 192.168.1.5 security = ADS encrypt passwords = true client schannel = no

NT can't print while Win 95 can?
Hello all, I have a printing problem with NT, Samba 1.9.18p8 and Debian Linux 1.3 (Kernel 2.0.32). I defined a printer share, which works fine with Win95, but it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the printserver, but it can not print to the same

Hey Jeremy, Thanks for the advice. I followed your suggestion collected the logged information for a single connection attempt (i.e. smbclient //servername/sharename -U username); I've included the log data below (in the postscript). It looks like Samba is still looking for a Unix user account and not finding one. I should mention that it seems that I am able to authenticate as the user; the

Samba 3.0.2a - Erroneously rejects NTLMv2 but accepts NTLM
Hello experts, I?ll try and keep this brief but detailed (if that?s possible.). I?m sure I don?t understand the technologies sufficiently but I believe I?m seeing counter-intuitive behavior with my Samba 3 setup. What I want is nice, tight Win 2K3 security. What I?ve got is ADS integration, including domain user authentication using winbind, but I can?t get the security level right. Problem

Samba PDC: "not permitted to access this share"
Hello, I run Samba 3.0.23d on a Host with SuSE 10.2, configured as PDC with LDAP-Backend. This is working so far since some month. But one USer can't log in. Ith seems that samba does not have the permission to acces the netlogon-share, whre the profile from "Default User" is located. The folder is readable for everyone, so, I think that this is not the Problem. Here is the

Access denied when accessing via hostname
Hi I'm using Samba 3.6.3 on ubuntu 12.04 as a domain member with AD on Win Server 2012. My hare is configured like this: valid users = @"EVSOFFICE.LOCAL+dangroup" When I try to connect to a share via IP from Win7 (part of the domain) it succeeds but when use host name \\node15 I can see shares but double-click on share shows AccessDenied. I'm trying to connect as

How to grant access to file shares by AD groups that have spaces in their name?
Hi, I hava a Samba4 file server joined to a Samba4 domain. I made a share for all members of the INFINITY domain 'Domain Users' group to access: [demoshare] comment = Test share path = /usr/local/samba/demoshare read only = no valid users = @"INFINITY+Domain Users" but no group member can access it. Any ideas what is wrong? It works if I change the group to

User Administrator (and only it) access denied on member server
Hello all, I have really strange problem with Samba 4.1.0 - regarding only one user - Administrator. There are 2 servers: NAS (which is DC) and CHEETAH (Which is domain member). Have spent long time in efforts to sync UID/GID across servers (these are used both from Linux over NFS and from Windows) - and finally wrote the scripts to make all users/groups (even including the builtin one, like

samba: DEC UNIX password problem
I've just installed a new DEC Unix 4.0d machine and downloaded the binary version of samba 1.9.18p8 for DEC Unix. I am able to get it up and running, but I am having problems with passwords. I am being prompted for a password when I try to connect to a non-public share, and when I type in my password it is being rejected. I did set security=share in my smb.conf file. I also tried the

Hey Rowland, Thanks for the advice. The host is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I've included the smb.conf below (reverted it to its "original" state prior to following Jeremy's advice). I don't suppose you know why the user is able obtain a list of Samba services (i.e. smbclient -L host -U user) if they aren't known to Samba? I find that confusing. - Itamar

Samba 3.6 File server with W2k3 DC
Hi, I've been fighting against a file server with samba 3.6.9-151.el6 authenticating from a windows 2003 server. I've read a thousand posts and howtos with all kind of samba versions without success. It looks like windbind is not processing things right. I've set the unix permissions on the folder to CANAL4\graficos right and the parent folder is world readable so this should not be

smbclient suddenly getting access denied
Hi, On Saturday I was able to run smbclient to connect to my Samba share just fine. Nothing was rebooted and nothing was installed/updated except for adding Python and Putty on the Windows server. The Windows server is running Windows Server 2016 and my Samba client is running 3.6.3 (it's the latest from SLES 11 but ported to SLES 10 - long story...). But today when I try to connect I get:

smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum - Access denied
Hi, Two days ago, I tried to turned my samba server, which worked perfectly into a PDC but despite of all my efforts, skimming thru the docs, mailing lists, hanging on #samba, I've never been able to logon to the new domain from the WinXP clients. Authentication is OK, but then access to the share is denied. Here's part of the log: [2006/09/28 19:03:36, 2]
