question about GLM
Hello R-users,
I do not have much knowledge about generalized linear models therefore my
question maybe quite stupid.
I have data from 20 towns with their population and number of people with an
illness from those towns. I would like to use glm function in R so I
can calculate proportions of ill people (and later on produce confidence
intervals). I also want to compare those with original

smbldap-populate failure
dear list,
I'm trying to migrate nt4 to samba3, and have two issues at the moment.
First is: I'm getting two (small?) errors using smbldap-populate on my ldap
database. At first I tried ignoring this, but now also rpc net vampire
complains. (maybe because of this..?)
This is the output of smbldap-populate:

report generator a la epiinfo
Hi
I'd like to use R in epidemiology and disease surveillance.
In EpiInfo you can have a script (.pgm) which calls a predefined report
(.rpt), where a table is calculated and values picked from that table
and placed where the author of the report wants them, with text around
those values. (Please see example below.)
I've looked at manuals, faq, mail-search and google. The closest is an

Would that really be useful?? Output from Ill-behaved libraries,
written fd 1, already go to the same place.? Don't forget, dup does
not create a new file, it creates a duplicate

Illegal multibyte sequence error in pdbedit output
dear list,
in the output of pdbedit -L -v heupink I'm getting these errors:
convert_string_allocate: Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence(???p?
????????)
Any ideas where to look..? Are these serieus errors..? (it looks as if the errors occur BEFORE the actual ldap connection is opened, so I guess they're not ldap related...)
My samba is 3.0.14a, and system is sles9

Setting creation mask per user when using 'homes'...
Hi...
I'm running Samba 2.2.8 with a 'homes' directive to auto mount
homedirectories upon login.
I'm using the create_mode and directory_mode of 600 and 700 so only
owner has perms for created files. There is a group of about 40
accounts that need this instead set to
read/write for them and read only for world (i.e. 604 and 705).
Is there some way to do this based on

MSDFS on [homes] share for two samba servers
Hello list,
we have two samba servers on two localities with bigger distance between
them. On both localities there are organizational staff working. And I
am trying to configure homedirectories for all of staff in this way:
- all users will have same beginning part of URL path where is their
homedir located (i.e. \\files.example.com\loginname) for unification and
central acces
- but because

[Re: Significance of confidence intervals in the Non-Linear Least Squares Program.]
Thanks for the response. I was not very clear in my original request.
What I am asking is if in a non-linear estimation problem using nls(),
as the condition number of the Hessian matrix becomes larger, will the
t-values of one or more of the parameters being estimated in general
become smaller in absolute value -- that is, are low t-values a
sign of an ill-conditioned Hessian?
Typical

boot function
Hi all,
I skimmed through the archives and couldnt really find an answer to my question. One thing i dont understand of the description of the function boot() is the second variable for statistics. I have a sample of say 19 subjects out of these, using boot(), i would like to generate say 1000 samples. For these 1000 samples ill calculate an nlme() and ill use these 1000 estimators of a variable

warning inside loop
Hi,
I'm running some data simulations using (mixed effects)* regression models
that show difficulty to converge. Therefore, I seek a way of capturing
warnings (of false convergence) inside a loop.
Inside that loop, I modify data and estimate a model. I do so many times
with slightly different modifications of the data. Next, I extract some of
the model parameters and store these in a matrix.

roger that, outlook has its way of deciding for you sometimes :/

Since i got the mp3 part to work, myabe ill try adding .ogg to be parsed by

Me, the grouser?

after attempting to correct Ivo's statement about Theora and Vorbis

mail off list:
"Why are you still here? And by here I mean the Xiph lists. I've seen
you speaking ill of our formats and of free software more than in one
occasion. So, for what purpose do you still stick around? What

Thank you for your reply.
If you happen to read the post of 11/22, you will notice that it was not
me who spoke ill of Samba.
I put my bets on other people being able to figure it out; I hope that
one of them will help me.

linux'' X86_MSR config option
.. is out of sync on i386 and x86-64 - should it be allowed on i386, or should
it be suppressed on x86-64? Since Xen fails ill accesses, I would assume
enabling it on i386 is fine.

Re: vnc client for libvirt from os x?
os x comes with openssh, and some other nixy goodness. the rest you
can get at brew.sh.
when i ssh -Y into the host, ill just virt-manager or virt-viewer, but
the x server on os x comes with some baggage and silly annoyances like
"helpfully" trapping the mouse with a release combo thats hard to deal
with from os x. running a vnc client over os x would still come with
baggage and
