RE : OOT : Puzzling
Hi, It is not a Samba issue, but a RH9 one. Try to replace in /etc/sysconfig/i18n the default charset utf8 to something easier (and faster) to handle for the system (look at the same file on your RH73). Aah.. Sorry typo. systemctl unmask samba-ad-dc (umask / unmask ) systemctl enable samba-ad-dc systemctl start samba-ad-dc Im very buzy, so slow in responce atm, but if a service fails to upgrade and starts it gets masked. Unmasking is needed then. To make sure its all enable i also run extra enable. > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: Stefan G. Weichinger [mailto:lists at

CUPS setup with 3.0.3pre1
Hello, I am currently trying to setup Samba 3.0.3pre1 to share my freshly installed LaserJet. I have NOT had any printer until now, so I can't tell you if the behavior was different before 3.0.3pre1. The problem: My smb.conf contains: > [global] > ## Printing > load printers = yes > printcap name = cups > printing = cups > [printers] > comment

smclient-excludes
Hello, samba-users, I am using Amanda to backup WinNT-shares. Amanda uses smbclient to generate smbtar-archives which it then writes to tape. As you all know there are various files on Windows-system-partitions that don?t need to be on backup. For example stuff like pagefile.sys System Volume Information hiberfil.sys and the registry files. So there is a need to exclude files from getting

Duplicate/No users in LDAP?
Hello, as I continued exploring Samba 3.0.4 as a PDC, I managed to get roaming profiles up ... Saving changes worked out fine. I logged in as TheUserWithUID=0 ... and tried to add a user. Access denied. The logs for the XP-client contain: > [2004/06/03 23:10:46, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:init_group_from_ldap(1792) > init_group_from_ldap: Entry found for group: 513 > [2004/06/03

Stopping new directory creation ?
Hi, I've been looking for a way to stop users creating new sub-directories under a top level (shared) directory - which will need to contain 3 readymade directories and/or to stop users placing files outside the 3 readymade directories. Is this at all possible ? Got a really basic system - Slackware 8.0 and Samba 2.2.8a running purely as a fileserver for Win2k clients. Thanks Mike

smbfs size limit
Hello, Samba-users, please don?t beat me, but I have to ask this question here, as I haven?t found an answer I can rely on until now. I am working on a solution for a backup-problem and one possible solution could be the use of smbfs/smbmount. I am testing that now, mounting a WinXPHome(sorry, testing ...)-share which is 20GB of size (8GB used) to my linux-box. The linux-box is a bit more

Call timed out?
Hello, I reported this problem already some months ago, but haven't received anything that helped. I try it from a different angle today: What could cause this message when creating an archive via smbclient? > ? Call timed out: server did not respond after 20000 milliseconds opening remote file And question two: What could cause smbclient to hang after that and fail on each following
