Samba Mapped Drives on XP Computers and Wierdness
I have a samba server setup sharing a bunch of files across the company
network. Everyone has the relevant samba shares mapped to drive letters
on their computer on startup. All generally works great.
HOWEVER if you dig deep enough there seems to be some weirdness. As long
as you use the drive letter or a folder link from the DFS to navigate to
the shares then all is good. If you type in the

Cannot reconnect network drives from Windows XP
Dear Samba List,
My Windows XP machine is unable to reconnect my Linux samba network
drive when I login. I installed:
Win2000_PlainPassword.reg
which allows me to connect manually, but it is a requirement that this
be automatic on each login.
Has anyone found a way to achieve this?
Thanks,
Dick

Persistant Z drive in XP
Hello. New to SAMBA.(2.2.8 on RH9) Mixed environment of 98 & (trying)
XP. My "net use s: /home" command works wonderfully for XP and 98. But
XP throws in an "extra" "more home-than-home" directory - namely
\username\.win_profile on the Z drive. I've tried disconnecting it with:
net use Z: /delete, but XP claims to have a process running on it (even

client machine which will either hang or BSOD when I manipulate (move,
copy, compress) a file on a mapped network drive BUT not when I navigate
to the file through My Network Places i.e. selecting WORKGROUP ->
FILESERVER -> Share2 -> Directory -> File.
I have a mix of Windows PCs on my network including Win2K,

Problems with mapping drives
I submitted a request 2 days ago about having problems mapping one share out of
70. I have found the fix, but I would like to have an answer as to why the
problem
occurred.
History:
We have about 70 shares mapped with Samba, using winbindd for
authentication.
We had about 10 users that could not map their shares. They would get an error
of:
could not chdir to the appropriate directory on the

Samba 3.0.1 ADS/Kerberos problems relating to Win2k/xp browsing to samba server
Hello All,
I've been discovering the joys of Samba/ADS integration here
(the environment is a chip design concern that has chip
simulation tools, many of which run in Linux, but some of
which only run in Windows. Winbind, and a Linux based
NAS server are the cornerstone through which Windows and
Linux elements of the toolchain will be able to seamlessly
communicate, once we get all the

XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both
behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get
samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except
that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft
Windows Network - MSHOME",
and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I

Samba3 and Domain Admin group mapping and use pbms.
Bon app?tit ? tous,
I have a small problem regarding delegation of domain administrator
rights to a 'normal' user (eg. not root or uid!=0).
I maybe fooled myself believing it is possible in Samba3, reading
Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WKURIDS, that a user could be also a domain
admin.
I've created group mappings (with good RIDs) for main groups (eg.
SID-512, SID-513, SID-514,

ssh+rsync to Windows
After doing a lot of reading and search this lists' archieve I'm stuck!
I'm trying to run a seemingly simply rsync from my RH9 box to an XP
desktop. I have rsync 2.5.7 on the RH9 and rsync 2.6.0 on XP with
Cygwin. ssh is working using key authentication. Anonymous rsync to XP
works from RH9. I'm trying to get the rsync to run over ssh. Here's
what I've tried.

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away
when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The
environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no
hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help.

Problems with viewing directories on mapped network drive
Got a bit of an odd one folks....
I have a samba 2.3 server running on a Caldera Openlinux 2.3 box, it works
great except for one thing that I am not sure whether is the issue of the
application or a Samba one. It appears to be an application issue, but I
can't help thinking there may be some other factor(s) involved here.
On one of the client machines (win98) they are running Wordperfect
