Samba4: W2k clients cannot set / sync time with samba4 AD DC
As a follow-up to this thread (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2013-April/172892.html) I have created an extra topic, because this is related only to NTP/time sync. I have done some more tests on this topic, as this really hurts and I wouldn't be able to migrate to samba4 in productional environment. We are still using lots of W2k clients which cannot be replaced or upgraded. Well,

NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
Hi all, I am using Samba 4.0.4 as AD DC on my test environment and realized that all my W2k clients (default installation, no special setups made on the clients) cannot receive the correct time of my samba 4.0.4 AD domain controller. Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type

Migrating Win2000 PDC to Samba4 AD
Hi! We want to replace an old Win2000 Server (PDC). As we've already some Samba4 AD-Controllers up and running we would like to migrate to that setup. Unfortunatly we're not really good at Windows-Stuff - our main Focus ist Linux. So perhaps someone could point as to a good (and ideally painless :-)) way to migrate. So the current setup is: A single Win2000 PDC used mainly as

write access to shares on PDC faulty (samba 2.2.6)
Hi, I just configured samba (2.2.6) on a Linux box (2.4.18) to act as a PDC. I can bring W2K PCs into the domain, and I can read the data on exported shares. However, when I try to write data, the following occurs: 1. trying to create directories (AKA folders :-) from the W2K GUI using "New Folder": Error Message Box "Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'. two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

unusual use of Samba for authentication of W2k??
Hi all, I got a new assignment today. My task is to install LDAP instead of NIS in our network, consisting of Solaris, Linux and W2k. Our actual setup is like this: Accounts are kept on a Solaris-server and served with samba and NFS. Two PCs serve as PDCs, running NOT samba on unix but a real W2k. Special MS-PAM-modules on the Solaris-server are used to synchronise accounts and passwords with

Possible PDC security hole re/machine accounts
Hey all! I was fiddling with some LDAP stuff for fun's sake, and I ran into this strange situation. The situation occurred with both my stock Samba and my modifications applied. I had a Win2000 Advanced Server machine already joined into the domain and working perfectly with PDC logons through the Samba server (v2.2.7, LDAP-SAM backend, OpenLDAP 2.0.25). While testing if the searches were

Problems with Samba 2.2.x under FreeBSD with Win2k Clients
Hi, Has anyone had the following problem. Under Win2000 I copy a file from Windows Explorer to a share running samba 2.2.x. The file does not yet exist on the share however windows pops up a warning that the file already exists and it asks me to replace it. The thing is, the file has a size of 0 bytes. If I click "no" to not replace I end up with an empty file, otherwise it copies

Possible PDC security hole r
Diego, When a NT-class or any Win9X based machine is not officially part of a domain, they can still utilize the domain resources as long as there is a user account that has permission to utilize the domain. When not part of the domain, the client machine will treat the domain as a workgroup and EVERY client request will go through the validation process. When connected to the
