REPOST: all machine password changes fail
More information: I managed to get an ethereal capture of the conversation
between a workstation and the samba PDC during an attempted machine password
change. I tried posting it as an attachment, but I guess the list won't
accept that. I would be happy to e-mail it to a developer or anyone else
who is willing to have a look and see if the explanation to the problem is
in there. The file is

all machine password changes fail
None of the Win 2000 workstations on my Samba 3.02 network is able to change
its password. Every machine's event log contains error messages every 30
days like this:
Changing machine account password for account P2450-2$ failed with the
following error:
The stub received bad data.
For the machines that are restarted every day, the error message only
appears once or twice evey 30 days. For

Machine password change failed: stub received bad data
One of our workstations spit out the following error:
Could not change machine account password: the stub received bad data.
This sounds to me like a Samba problem... but it's a bit beyond me to
come up with an answer to. Any ideas where I should start?

Can NOT overides the stub! in the setup
Hello,
I am new to rSpec. I tried to search in the list, but could not find
the answer, please forgive me if somebody already answered this. Here
is my question:
I have a stub in setup:
before(:each) do
@current_user = mock("devsu")
# Generally, prefer stub! over should_receive in setup.
User.stub!(:find).and_return(@current_user)
session[:user] = @current_user.id

Hi,
I had a problem with
smbpasswd -m
The man pages says:
-m This option tells smbpasswd that the account being
changed is a MACHINE account. Currently this is
used when Samba is being used as an NT Primary
Domain Controller.
This option is only available when

very slow link between Win2k SP4 and Linux samba server (2.2.8a)
I've been experiencing an incredibly slow samba access from a Win2k SP4
client to a Linux samba server (Mandrake 9.0, samba 2.2.8a).
It seems like the file transfer rate is not so slow, but the initial
opening of files on the Linux samba server takes very long (10 ~ 20
seconds). The directory listing is also very slow.
In the past, it took me about 2.5 hours to compile Mozilla-Windows

Samba 3 and Windows 2000 (SP4) Terminal Server
Hello,
at this time we're using s. 2.2.8a (running on SuSE-Linux StandardServer 8 -
Kernel 2.4.21) as fileserver for our terminal server environment. We ran
into the 128 connections per client limitation and had to modify the
MAX_CONNECTIONS-parameter in smbd/conn.c. Now we're planning the migration from s.
2.2.8a to s. 3.0.1. Is the modification in smbd/conn.c still necessary, when using

Upgrade from Samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 - Printing problem
I upgraded samba from 2.2.8a to 3.0.0 following the chapter of upgrading
from 2.2.x in the samba-howto. I installed RPMS that I built from source
using makerpms.sh script.
Almost everything works, but the printer connections from W2k SP4
clients. There are two problems that can be related:
1) On the clients, from the clients' APW, I cannot browse the network
printers on Samba 3.0.0

winbind/samba 3.0.1-1 fails to store machine account password when joining ADS
Hi All,
The latest Debian unstable release of samba 3.0.1-1 appears to be fail
in storing the machine account password when joining a 2000 AD domain.
kinit user@realm works fine, as does net ads join suggesting the issue
is not related kerberos misconfiguration.
klist indicates no cached tickets, until kinit is used.
and winbindd.log shows the following entries when winbindd starts.

If I understand it well, password for machine trust account are always
modified the first time a windows host joins the domain. I use smbpasswd
backend (samba3.0.25rc1), and the password in modified in the db file
smbpasswd. Is there a way to now this password in a clear text format ?
