FW: Problem updating/creating files with winbind and a wi n2k box
It appears that whenever the winbind process is running on my Solaris 8 machine, I can't perform a long listing of the test share that I created (that is local on the Solaris machine). However, if I turn the winbind process off, then I can get the results of a long listing (ls -l). Also, when winbindd is running, it is eating up about 45% of the CPU. I have double checked the linking of the

Early warning wrt Win2K
It looks like Microsoft buggered up Win2000 so that explorer hangs while trying to view a directory on a Samba server. I can't experiment any more since I removed Win2K beta 3, but I thought I'd give the list a warning. -- Ben Kosse <bkosse@thecreek.com> PC Technician -- Coldwater Creek, Inc. (208) 265-7114

FW: Cannot access shares from a Win2k client
Here's a followup. I also get these errors in the smbd logs. The thing is, the share directory has full permissions (0777) and the smb.conf is set to be fully readable, writeable and okay for guests. Cannot access shares from a Win2k client
Hey all. I'm running Samba 3.0.1 as a domain member in a Win2k3 ADS domain. I'm attempting to view shares on the samba server via a Win2000 client. I've been getting the following messages from the smbd logs and I'm wondering why. I can connect to the Samba server (using the IP only) to view which shares are available, but when I double click the share to access it, I get a

Samba 3.0.1 ADS/Kerberos problems relating to Win2k/xp browsing to samba server
Hello All, I've been discovering the joys of Samba/ADS integration here (the environment is a chip design concern that has chip simulation tools, many of which run in Linux, but some of which only run in Windows. Winbind, and a Linux based NAS server are the cornerstone through which Windows and Linux elements of the toolchain will be able to seamlessly communicate, once we get all the

Win2k box joining 2.2 domain - problem
I've followed the steps in the 2.2 PDC howto (I think). When I try and join the domain from a Win2k box I get an error message saying that I'm trying to use a machine account and I should use a global or local user account. When the Win2k box asks for a name and password that can join the domain I give "root" and root's samba password. I had previously added root to

Win2K child domains and winbind
I just set up a Samba server to serve as a file server in a Win2K domain. It's version 2.2.3a running on RedHat 7.2. I set up winbind according to the documentation provided with Samba. The Win2K domain tree includes a top-level domain A, and child domains B, C, and D. The children and parent have transitive two-way trust relationships established, and in Win2K, each domain properly

Problems with Samba 2.2.x under FreeBSD with Win2k Clients
Hi, Has anyone had the following problem. Under Win2000 I copy a file from Windows Explorer to a share running samba 2.2.x. The file does not yet exist on the share however windows pops up a warning that the file already exists and it asks me to replace it. The thing is, the file has a size of 0 bytes. If I click "no" to not replace I end up with an empty file, otherwise it copies

User directory shares with Samba, Winbind, and Win2k domain - help deparately needed!
I have a new samba install with winbindd running correctly. I have moved folders from the old Win2k file server to this new file server. I need to re-create the same permissions that the Win2k file server had for the users. The users were in groups, based upon departments. Each department head had RW priv to the department share and RO on each user's sub directory. Each user, of course,

Replacing Win2000 DC with Samba4 - Success!
Hi! Just wanted to share a little success story: We where asked to replace a Win2000 DC deployed by another company which is'nt existing any more. As our focus is software development on linux we wanted to deploy a Samba-server instead of Windows. So after some trial and error and a lot of reading and asking (many thanks to all that tried to help!) in mailing-lists and forums we

winbind cannot authenticate with new win2k PDC
Hi everyone, System info: OS: Suse 9.1 samba: 3.0.2a-51 PDC: win2K My winbind was working well with the win2k PDC. I'm using it to control access to my samba shares and subversion repositories. Then they had to change the win2k's hardware. The hostname, domain name, settings, etc. were retained (so they say). And this broke my authentication. I rejoined the domain using net ads

Samba 3, winbind, win2k AD: Kerberos question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi folks, after a little head banging, I got winbind chatting with the domain control ( win2k server ) by hard coding my realm info into krb5.conf. My question is this: Is there a cleaner, more fault tolerant method than this? I googled, and read about dns srv records being used ( intead of hardcoding ), which I understand win2k uses to begin with,
