read (and edit?) registry files on Linux
Hello,
Is there a way in Linux to read Windows registry files?
I have only ssh access to the Linux/Samba server, and would like to be able
to check settings in user profiles (in their ntuser.dat files). Best would
be if I could even edit settings in there.
For now, it seems the only thing I can do is scp the files to a Windows
machine, and manually load the hives in regedt32. Very

Found RegToAdm util !
Samba admins,
I have stumbled across a FREE & interesting utility that allows one to
create Policy Templates straight from an registry export "*.reg"
(unicode or ansi), thank you Yizhar Hurwitz.

samba3 win2k roaming profiles.
I'm running Windows 2000 Professional and Samba 3.0.1 and I can't seem
to get roaming profiles to work right. When there are no profiles
stored locally on the win2k machine, and a user logs in for the first
time, it successfully reads the profile from the server in the
\\netlogon\Default User share. Next, if you manually copy the profile
to server and login to the workstation, it

Problems with smbpasswd
I've compiled the latest version of samba (1.9.18p4) and set up password
encryption (per instructions in the ENCRYPTIONS.txt file). Setting root's
smbpasswd worked with no problems. I set another user (me) with an
smbpasswd. Tried "smbclient -L '\\hostname\wwinzer'". The output is the
following:
68 wwinzer@Sun-E3000:~ ==> smbclient '\\champusa.com\wwinzer'

Change in SID: users having trouble
When I migrated our Samba PDC from version 2.2.7 to 3.0, I was forced to
have the 4 machines we are using rejoin our domain, because the SID had
changed.
Since then, users have been able to log on, but any attempt to start IE,
or Outlook fails, apparently because something in the user's profile
cannot be accessed due to the SID modification, and the icons in the
WinXP start menu have

Generating a data frame out of a xtabs result acts unusual. Take the following

bioinformatics repository?
Hi all, I'm new to Centos, just moved here from Gentoo Linux.
I have to install a server for bioinformatics purposes and I see that
default yum repositories do not include any bioinformatics software
(i.e. ncbi-toolkit, blat, and others). I'm googling a bit but I can't
find a valuable solution: which is (or which are) the best repository
I should add to have a satisfying list

Problems with Default user profiles.
All,
I currently have a problem where the default user profile is not being picked up - Windows simply ingores it and creates one based on local settings.
I understand samba supports default user profiles, and one can be put into the profiles share like this:
/export/profiles/Default User/
This directory contains a copy of a working profile from a proper user.

LMTP logging configuration
Hi,
I'm using Dovecot 2.0.1, and I log to a custom syslog facility (local0) in the
main configuration (I want a separate log file, but I want to make use of
rsyslogd's capabilities). I overwrite the syslog facility for LDA (mail) to
have all delivery related stuff in /var/log/mail.log, and that works fine.
I tried to do the same for LMTP with
protocol lmtp {
syslog_facility = mail
}

Hmm. Something seems to have gone horribly wrong then. I've just
reproduced Peter's suggestion on the autoconf build and it worked
fine. Perhaps try a clean build out of tree:
CMake:
mkdir my_special_build_dir
cd my_special_build_dir
cmake $PATH_TO_LLVM_SOURCE
make llc
Autotools:
mkdir my_special_build_dir
cd my_special_build_dir

Questions on Roaming Profiles
Hello everyone.
Well, I have a couple of questions regarding roaming profiles. I have been
assigned the task of setting up a Samba PDC on our network. Lately, I have
been doing a lot of research and reading to find out the best way I setup
my system. I have a couple of questions I wanted to ask here, in hopes of
getting some feedback.
First, some details:
The server will be Red Hat 8.0 with

cannot locate roaming profile
Hi all.
I've just installed samba-3.0.1-rc1 as a PDC and I can add computers (
win2k ) to the domain, but when users log on, they get an error:
... windows cannot locate your roaming profile ...
or words to that effect.
My smb.conf is:
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = NUS
server string = Samba Server %v
bind interfaces only = true

OT - DECT handset with Line key
Hi,
I need to replace digital handsets in offices where there cabling is
appareantly not Ethernet-compliant.
Today's usage is to press a key to toggle between private ou public line
before issuing an outgoing call.
Are you aware of a DECT handset (to overcome cabling limitations) that mimic
this line-key behaviour ?
For instance, acceptable behaviours would be to dial number string and press

samba pdc/roving profiles/encrypted passwords
It is my understanding that roving profiles cannot be implemented without using encrypted passwords. It is also my understanding that encrypted passwords cannot be implemented without pointing smb.conf to a windows password server.
I'm trying to set up a samba server on a Linux (RedHat 7.3) to act as a PDC and a provider for roving profiles - when I do things with cleartext (encryption

Profiles ...
Greetings ...
This is a stupid question which have been wanting to ask for awhile,
and hope somebody can help me.
Profiles, if I understand it correctly come in two forms, local and
roaming? Now local in on the computer the user uses and roaming is one
that is download from the server when the user logs in.
Now, where my problem is, when I have some users who have huge
documents folder,

Encrypted IMAP only from Internet, unencrypted POP3 from internal network
Hi,
we have following situation: I migrated our company mailserver from POP3
only to dovecot with IMAP and POP. We need to have unencrypted POP3
from our internal network, and the subnet our mailserver is in.
Additionally, we now want to allow encrypted IMAP from the internet (for
some defined accounts), preferably with TLS (which means I open Port
143 in our firewall).
Now, how can I
