fax software
It's been many years, but it seems that I have to receive a fax and might have to send one too. Is there a way to do this on CentOS 5.5? (Hope so.) tia. -- Anything is easy if you know how to do it.

Bootstrapping confidence intervals
Hello, We are a group of PhD students working in the field of toxicology. Several of us have small data sets with N=10-15. Our research is mainly about the association between an exposure and an effect, so preferrably we would like to use linear regression models. However, most of the time our data do not fulfill the model assumptions for linear models ( no normality of y-varible achieved even

Bootstrap or Wilcoxons' test?
Hi! I'm comparing the differences in contaminant concentration between 2 different groups of people ( N=36, N=37). When using a simple linear regression model I found no differences between groups, but when evaluating the diagnostic plots of the residuals I found my independent variable to have deviations from normality (even after log transformation). Therefore I have used bootstrap on

[LLVMdev] libxml2 Test Case?
One of the things I use heavily in conjunction with LLVM is libxml2. This provides the XML parsing (amongst other things) that I need for my XPL source language. Since XPL supports XML parsing at runtime, I would like to be able to compile libxml2 to bytecode and have it undergo optimization as well. libxml2 is "C" code, well written and reasonably large. I'm wondering if it would

Is the X100P a WinModem?
So I've been on the Asterisk list for a long time. Mostly looking to set it up as a cheap alternative to a commercial MeetMe bridge, as a for-fun project. I keep noticing the Wildcard FXO X100P sorta seems like a Winmodem. Winmodems are basically a sound card chip tied to a pots port, where the Winders driver takes on the MO/DEM functions in software. I've always despised them as a data

Is the puppet dsl a complete Turing capable language? As I understand it, the chain is dsl -> compiled thing -> actions. What language is the compiled thing in? The Sims
I have a copy of the Sims installed on a Win2k FAT32 partition. I know for a fact that The Sims works under Wine (Mandrake's "Gamer" edition), but I get an error when I try to run it. The error is as follows: "Game cannot be started because: There is not enough memory or hard drive space to run. Exit now." I do have plenty of free space and plenty of memory. Does

Voice linmodems and Asterisk PBX
Hello group, Just got this reply from Sasha @ Smart Link, a soft modem chipset company with a very nice attitude towards Linux. BTW, You can check the status of most modem chipsets and Linux support here: http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/dips/roster.html The good news is that the current 2.7.x series supports voice commands and is full duplex, but can only work with one modem. This issue will

Problem with cast {reshape}: Error in match.fun(FUN) : could not find function "Negate"
Dear All I'm having problem with some script which worked a few months ago (on a different computer that might well have had a different version of R installed, so perhaps it has to do with the old version of R?): library(reshape) Loading required package: plyr > tble.data <- melt.array(interp, varnames=c("tme","lon","lat")) > > allyrs.interp <-

Dimension of apply(X, MARGIN, FUN) when FUN returns a matrix
Dear all, apply(X, MARGIN, FUN, ...) returns an array of dimension c(n, dim(X)[MARGIN]) when FUN returns a vector of length n > 1. Matrices and arrays are also vectors, so if FUN returns a matrix or an array, apply returns an array of dimension c(n, dim(X)[MARGIN]) as above. This is in accordance with the description of apply in the Blue Book, and also how Splus works (at least v6.0). I am

pks for openssh
I was directed to the following site by one of our customers regarding a keyserver built into openssh. There's a patch for 3.4p1 on their site, but the license isn't very clear, nor is it clear if they have approached the openssh team regarding the inclusion of this subsystem into openssh proper. I've been asked to patch Mandrake's openssh with this feature, but I'm

Fun with Mongrel and cygwin.
On the Mongrel FAQ forum, Josh Wehner was having problems with cygwin (don''t know if he fixed it). http://rubyforge.org/forum/forum.php?thread_id=6978&forum_id=5450 Due that, I manage to install cygwin, ruby and rails on my humble little computer, it compiled worked ok (taste like *nix, so I felt a bit off-road running this). Anyway, tried to pass test for mongrel, and still get 1

Fun with nosetuid!
On an unpatched Centos 4.4 system I chmod'd /usr/bin/sudo to ug+s, and set the filesystem in /etc/fstab to defaults, nosetuid. Reboot, and am told sudo needs to be set to setuid root. An ls -l shows rwsrws-- root root sudo I had to use a rescue CD to undo /etc/fstab for the filesystem partition so sudo would work. What am I missing? Thanks. Scott

Captcha Fun
Hello, I am trying to integrate a captcha into a form that is used to update a database. I am using a method that is outlined here: http://svn.2750flesk.com/validates_captcha/trunk/README, but things are not working correctly. The captcha image shows up in the user form, but the captcha input is being ignored. The following shows my controller file: class PublicController <
