Linux migration document.
Hi all, If you're looking at a Windows server to Linux & Samba migration (and let's face it, who isn't nowadays :-), the EU (god bless their little cotton socks :-) has published a wonderful migration how-to document here : http://europa.eu.int/ISPO/ida/jsps/index.jsp?fuseAction=showDocument&parent=news&documentID=1647 Cheers, Jeremy.

Problem with "add user script"
Problem - smbpasswd does not seem to be recognizing my "add user script" option to automatically create Unix users when adding a samba user. I am running Samba version 2.2.8a (from source) on a Linux (Redhat 8.0) system. Relevant lines from smb.conf: [global] server string=Samba Server netbios name = smbpdc security = user domain logons=yes domain master = yes

Which Linux best suits Samba3?
In a discussion with one of the main answer people, of whose time I am greatly appreciative, it was suggested that some of my problem (or solution) may be to run Samba on a distro that's better suited for it. Problem is, I don't have the time nor the inclination to download a bunch of distros just to install, test, fdisk, repeat. So I ask. what is a recommended recent distro that works

XP Pro client cannot access stand-alone linux samba server
Hi, I am trying to set up my internet connection sharing linux box as a stand-alone samba server. When i try to access the server from a Windows XP Pro client using \\192.168.0.1 i get a dialog box asking for a username and password. I duly enter this and the dialog box immediately re-appears without connecting me to the share. There exists both a samba and linux account with the same

Swen virus and spam appears to be coming from Samba list
Shortly after I subscribed to this Samba list I started receiving numerous emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm. Many of these emails contained the email addresses of Samba list members. I believe a subscriber of the Samba list has the Swen virus. Has anyone else on this list been getting emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm? Please update your virus definitions and do a virus scan just to

Just a thought, all this "swen" stuff, this list
It seems anyone posting to this list gets a deluge (and I mean a deluge) of virus infected windows garbage. It's basically enough to ruin any email address you sign up to the list with; it doesn't matter if you have a virus scanner integrated with your MTA, I really don't want to see 200 virus notifications a day because i posted to this list. I have been getting about 20MB of swen a

SOLARIS_2.6: request_oplock_break
I saw a little discussion about this a few weeks ago but nothing concrete. We're running samba-1.9.18p8 under Solaris 2.6x86. I am periodically getting the following in the logfiles, usually _many_ at a time: 1998/11/03 14:42:00 request_oplock_break: no response received to oplock break request to pid 5411 on port 40884 for dev = 1980040, inode = 33c4d When I look up the PID (in this case

Setting scales for ggplot2 with facets
Faceting in ggplot2 seems to permit different scales for different facets, but I fail to see how one could control ylim and xlim ranges for each facet separately. For instance, I would like to set the ylim = c(0,10) for facet "A" and ylim = c(42,102) for facet "B". Since the data is out of these ranges, setting facet_grid(factor ~ ., scales = "free_y") does not

cisco 7912 voicemail/dnd issue
Hi all, I playing around with some C7912 IP phones (SIP FW). They work nice with asterisk, but I found the following issue: o When I configure the voicemail number (8500) to access VM I can push the "messages" button on the phone to access my VM o The phone can setup DND and call redirection on NA and BUSY o MWI is also working fine ;-) But in this case the call will be

MS Outlook
If you are using Microsoft Outlook and you are reading this message you need to make 500% sure you are not propagating virii. I posted our support (at) nufone d0t net addy on this mailing list last night and have never posted it in an unprotected fashion like that anywhere else. So far today we have received over a hundred email virii to that address. I suggest you upgrade to a more secure

Dovecot replication - I'm stuck
Hi, I've been following the wiki document at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Replication, but I've become stuck. I'm running version 2.1.3 on NetBSD 5.2 (v2.2+ isn't available as a package yet, and compiling my own is well outside my wheelhouse). I have a couple of questions: The wiki page keeps referring to "vmail". Is this a just system user I need to create? Presumably

pam + privileges
Hi, Apologies if my attempts to subscribe bombarded this list with empty emails. We're running openssh 3.6.1p1 on Linux i386 and need to chroot and modify people's capabilities (Linux specific) when they log in. To do this we've compiled openssh with pam support and then configured pam to chroot people and alter their capabilities (such as giving them the privilege to bind to a port

being bombarded with SIP packets
Over the last two weeks, we have had at least two "incidents" where our asterisk server got flooded (a hundred or more per second) by SIP packets. Once from 114.31.50.10, second time from 173.212.200.146. We became aware of the problem when bandwidth started suffering because asterisk got very busy sending back replies or rejects (dunno which, I didn't investigate it any further).
