Problem with internal traffic
Have 4 harddrives hde,hdg etc all of these drives are mounted in samba. When i copy file from one drive to another i notice that server sends the file to my computer and then back to itself (into the right place). The file will be copied but doing so it will eat half of my network bandwith. Is it possible to aviod this? Best Regards Patrick Betfjord

cups printing and user names from trusted domains
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Im currently running some tests for a samba/CUPS based print server. The print server is a member of an NT domain and uses winbind to import NT domain users. Users accessing the print server will be not from the same domain but from trusted domains. Everything basically seems to work, once you use sufficiently new versions of cups and samba. Using variables with pdbedit
I am trying to set up roaming profiles and I got it working. Could someone confirm if Samba variables work or do not work in the user database. If I do the following option: pdbedit -s -u username -p "\\\\servername\\sharename\\profilename" my roaming profiles work fine but I have to direclty specify the server name and username. If I do not double up all the "\" it does not

Printing in Wine 20050725
I have just reinstalled wine on my Debian Sid (unstable) system after several years without it, in order to run a handful of Windows applications: IE, Lotus Notes, ... I use CUPS to support printing under Linux, and several years ago had no real problems printing from Windows applications running under Wine. However, I am now unable to print from any of them using Wine release 20050725. When I

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on Redhat 8 (fully updated). I have two printers set up - a laser and a Deskjet 920C both connected to the Redhat server via USB cables. Printing is managed using CUPS although I get the same problem with LPR and Webmin configured printers. The laser works fine, the deskjet doesn't. The deskjet works with a generic windows HP Deskjet or HP Deskjet plus driver in

Cups updates - overwriting mime.* files
Every time cups is updated I have to check mime.convs and mime.types to ensure that references to handling raw file types are uncommented otherwise we notice that one of our printers stops working because the files are overwritten by the updates. Should config files not be left untouched? We do have 'print command = lpr -r -oraw -P %p %s' in smb.conf but this on its own didn't make

CUPs and Samba and XP
Hullo All. The preamble.... Samba 2.2.7a compiled against CUPS, CUPs v 1.1.6 (version that came with Mandrake 9.0), using client side drivers (raw printing) on XP. Printing works, cancelling jobs via the web interface works after the spooling is done. What doesn't work. Pausing jobs (though that's not as important as the next trouble) and cancelling jobs from XP. If I cancel a job by

Some applications print, some don't
Hi, I have a wine working for an application called Infovet that is written in Visual Basic, i guess (there is a dll called Vbrun200.dll). Everything but printing works fine. I tested with notepad.exe that comes with wine and it worked well. The printer was detected, kprinter was started and the page is OK. Here is my config: karin@servidor:/home/infovet/drive_c/infovet$ dpkg -l |

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.
