guest user, is this a bug, as I have a guest unix user and a smbpasswd
smbpasswd user. Both of these have passwords.
I've tried this just about every way I can think of!
Its driving me up the wall, any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Folder/directory permissions
Greetings.
I am new to this list so please forgive what maybe an easy question.
I am trying to use Samba 2.2.5 on a Solaris 7 server for a bunch of Win9x and
Win2K clients. What I am currently having troubles with is viewing/changing
permissions on the W2K boxes. While everything seems to be working OK for
files (the check boxes show up and function correctly), this is NOT the case

Win NT 4.0 clients give error C0000078 when login to Samba PDC
Hi all,
I've tried searching all over the net for any information about this
error but can't seem to find any.
I've compiled Samba 2.2.8a on a RH Linux 7.3 box (kernel 2.4.18-3) with
lsapsam support against openldap 2.0.23-4. I'm also using pam_ldap such
that all authentication (unix + samba/windows) is done through LDAP,
which is working quite nicely.
However, none of my NT

password expires in 10 days no matter what Win2k Sp2 (All critical updates)
No matter who I log in as, I always get the message, Password expires in 10 days. Checking the /etc/shadow file shows that it is set to 99999 which means it shouldn't expire.
I am using Samba 2.2.2, Win2k with SP2 and all critical updates.
I searched deja news for this problem and I couldn't find anyone else who is having this problem.
Not that this matters, here is the log.jweber file

Hi!
I have a RedHat Linux box running Samba 2.2.5. I have it setup to be
a file server and it is shared on my Win2K client as the "S:" drive.
I have thousands of files in a single directory on the Linux box and
when I try to delete those files from the Windows share, SOME of the
files get deleted and some of them come back with the error

Issues with print command group membership
Hi,
I have a Samba print share set up, with a "print command" specified
that just cats the file to /dev/ulpt0. This share is accessed by the
guest Samba account, which I have set to be the 'smbguest' username.
I can manually run the print command as root, and the file prints.
I can manually run the print command as 'smbguest' (through sudo) and
the file prints.

Question regarding Samba and security = share
I am really new to configuring and maintaining samba, and have what I
belive should be a quick question.
I have recently installed Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 server. I need to
make a directory on the samba server accessable by a small group of people
here at work. The users who will be connecting to the samba share do not
have accounts on the samba server. The are coming from Windows 2K boxes

Unable to use Samba in Win2K Domain
Hello. We recently migrated our site from an NT domain model to a 2000 domain
model (active directory). In the process, I've found that I'm unable to use
Samba with our new domain. These same machines were able to function properly
as domain
I've tried samba versions 2.2.2 and 3.0alpha12. The systems running Samba

Using win2k non-pdc as password server
Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba on a Linux box to work. Authentication via user
level worked fine, but what I really want is it to take user authentication from
a win2k box, which is our "primary local server". The win2k box is not a pdc,
(the real pdc is 2000km away, close to the polar circle), but according to
the docs it doesn't have to be.
So in smb.conf I put:

Win2k logout exception error with Samba 2.2.3a-12.1
I am running Samba 2.2.3a-12.3 as a PDC on Debian 3 (kernel 2.2).
All seems to be working with 2 exceptions.
The worst problem is when I logout of my Windows 2000 desktop. While the Win2k machine says it is "Saving Settings..." it will come up with an error box giving me a fatal exception in application unknown. The message box title says something like: "SAS Window:

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

A working solution to the XP domain reboot problem
Hey,
I worked for days on this, and I want to share the solution I stubled across.
I got this error message from my wife XP laptop:

your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this
message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for

Does automatic printer driver download from Win 2k client work?
Hi,
I am playing around with automatic printer driver download to Windows
2000 clients from Samba 2.2.8a-1 which doesn't seem to work. Whenever I
right-click on the printer and say "connect", it displays:
The server on which the printer resides does not have the correct

Need local profiles in win2k/sp2
Greetz all,
I am setting up a comain controller for a windows 2000 network and I
think I have everything squared away. The problem that I am having right
now is that all of the documentation/howtos that I have thusfar seen
assume that a user wishes to implement roaming profiles in Samba. We
want to preserve local profiles (local on the client.)
I had seen a posting suggesting to set the

Delete glitch?
Hey, everyone.
I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a Debian Linux 3.0 box and for some reason, when
someone tries to delete something they can't, it does give them the access
denied message the first time. When they try to do it again, no message
appears and it seems to be deleted (it disappears from the list), but when
they refresh the list, it appears again.
My file system is as follows
