Ext3 compile problem on 2.4.13
I am having some trouble compiling ext3 for the 2.4.13 kernel. It appears that the journaling source file is corrupted: In file included from sysctl.c:33: /src/linux-2.4.13/include/linux/jbd.h: In function `buffer_jbd': /src/linux-2.4.13/include/linux/jbd.h:241: `BH_JBD' undeclared (first use in this function) /src/linux-2.4.13/include/linux/jbd.h:241: (Each undeclared identifier is

Major problems
I am having major problems on one of my file-servers. I have the root filesystem on an Ext3 software RAID 1 between four SCSI drives. It had been running for about two months without problems, but today I found it was having some trouble with unlinked inodes and I/O errors on certain files. I took it down to single-user mode, and ran fsck on it. That operation mixed up files like /etc/hosts with

Can't join machines to a Samba PDC using LDAP
I've been trying to do this for days, and I think I'm really close. It's become one of those so-close-yet-so-far sorts of things. I'm running Gentoo -- all sync'ed up and current as of a week ago -- with the following package versions: openldap-2.1.30-r5 pam_ldap-178-r1 nss_ldap-239-r1 smbldap-tools-0.9.1-r1 phpldapadmin-0.9.5 (very cool, I must say!) samba-3.0.14a-r2

Bug 6870 resurfaced in Samba 4.2.10
Hi, So I did some digging into the source code, and I think I've found the issue. Around line 120 of source3/libads/cldap.c: for (i=0; i<num_servers; i++) { NTSTATUS status; status = cldap_socket_init(state->cldap, NULL, /* local_addr */ state->servers[i], &state->cldap[i]); if (tevent_req_nterror(req, status)) { return tevent_req_post(req, ev);

ext3 partition still gets mounted as ext2
I'm using the ext3-patched version of Linux 2.4.13 (the patch from Andrew Morton's UOW site). I compiled both ext3 and ext2 into the kernel. I've also done "tune2fs -j /dev/hda3" and changed /etc/fstab to ext3. However, when I boot up, the filesystem still gets mounted as ext2. I've been trying to figure out why for many days now.. any ideas? Here's my setup:

Bug 6870 resurfaced in Samba 4.2.10
According to this bugzilla entry, bug 6870 has been fixed as of at least version 3.5: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6870 However, I assert that it is present in 4.2.10, which ships with Debian Jessie. On my home network (IPv4 and IPv6), a box with Samba 4.2.10 with IPv6 disabled (via sysctl), will fail to contact a DC because the IPv6 connect fails immediately before the v4

devfs and ext3?
Hi! Today I switched over to devfs. I'm on Debian unstable, installed devfsd, installed a kernel with devfs support and "devfs mount on boot". Reboot, devfs is being used. All over a sudden, dmesg reports: Linux version 2.4.21-ac1 (root@hummus) (gcc version 3.3 (Debian)) #1 Sun Jun 15 19:06:13 CEST 2003 ... kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds EXT3-fs: mounted

2.4.13
Hi all, I've downloaded the http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/ext3-2.4-0.9.13-2413.gz file and want to know what to do with it once it's unzipped. Is it a patch file or is it a compiled kernel? I need an ext3 patch for kernel 2.4.13, I then need to patch kernel 2.4.13 with win4lin. TIA Robyn

2.4.13 patch
Passes all my testing. http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ It's still at 0.9.13. No changes were made apart from resolving the fs.h reject, and retesting. People who have already applied the 2.4.13-pre6 patch to 2.4.13 needn't apply this patch.

Bug in LDAP stuff?
I think I've found a bug in the LDAP stuff. I've got a LDAP backend setup based on the idealx scripts. When I try to join a machine to my domain, I get the following. The important bit I want to point out is that the LDAP search is looking for (a lot of) properties, but it seems to be looking for _ALL_ objectClass=sambaSamAccount's. At this point in the trace, it should be trying to

Auditing filesystems for Linux?
Does anyone know of any Linux-based filesystem that does file-level auditing and logs based on username? Does ext2/3 do such auditing (stock or with patches)? I would like a filesystem that can be told to audit and log file deletions and log the username that deleted the file (similar to auditing on NTFS). I know, I should be using file permissions to prevent this type of deletion from

Hi, I'm looking over the Wine documentation, and it says that the particular version that looks like it will work with my version of RedHat 7.1 will only work if the glibcc is 2.2 or above. How do I tell? I"m a newbie and not sure exactly what the glibcc is. TIA

Hard disk failure, can't read journal
I can not start my laptop anymore, due to what looks like a physical HD failure. During boot I get: hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { Uncorrectable Error }, LBAsect=260112, sector 51144 and then JBD: Failed to read block at offset 5864 JBD: recovery failed EXT3-fs: error loading journal then the laptop is frozen. ext3 Patch doesn't work with 2.4.13
Hi, I just wanted to compile my kernel 2.4.13 with the ext3-2.4.13-pre6 patch, but it doesn't work. It seems, that the patching failes by replacing some things in a textfile. Does anyone of you know, if there is a upcoming solution for this? Kind regards Jan Albrecht -- Jan Albrecht Phone: +49-5241-80-88404 System Consultant UNIX/NT Fax:
