Sharing an HP DeskJet through SAMBA: the raw option
While setting up a RH9 server on my LAN, I ran into the same situation as it has been described in an earlier posting on this list list, by Joseph Vornehm (see msg29910). Namely, when printing to a samba-shared HP DeskJet 990cxi from a windows station, there were no errors were reported, but nothing was printed. So, as described in that earlier posting, I opened the file /etc/cups/mime.types with

Printing from Windows is printing PS commands instead of job!
I've about run out of ideas and need some help. I have an HP OfficeJet 7110 installed on my Fedora Core 3 box. From Linux, it prints perfectly, the Test Page works, I can print from Mozilla/Thunderbird/Firefox, KDE applications, and even Emacs, all without any issues whatsoever. The problem is I can't seem to get it to work when I share the printer to Windows. I've shared it to

Subnet Browsing, Halfway There
I have a network which consists of two subnets, each with a linux server providing Samba services. With the configuration listed below, I have successfully achieved Subnet B being able to browse Subnet A but, Subnet A cannot browse Subnet B (sharename not found). Is it a Samba configuration issue or is it DNS? (I have it fixed if I put an /etc/lmhosts file on Linux Server A that has the host

Samba - cannot print multiple copies
Hi, I successfully setup printing on my FreeBSD box using Samba with apsfilter and lprng. However, I have encountered two issues: 1) Cannot print multiple copies of documents from my windows box (e.g. notepad). Only the first copy is printed and the rest don't get printed. 2) My spool directory is getting filled up and I would like the job removed after the print job is finished I've

HP Deskjet 1000c
Howdy all - I have Samba 2.0.3 running like a champ on a dual PPro 200, 128 MB RAM, running Slackware 3.6, kernel 2.2.5. Running like a champ as far as file sharing is concerned, that is. I have an HP Deskjet 1000c hanging off the parallel port. I set up a raw printer in /etc/printcap, the line looks like this: dj1000|DeskJet 1000c:sh:lp=/dev/lp0:sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj1000 the printing section

Printers: Fedora + WinXPHome
I have a network with 1 Linux box (host), 2 Win98 machines, and 1 WinXPHome machine. There is a Deskjet attached to the Linux box, and an HPLJ Postscript attached to one of the PCs. Until recently I was running RH7.1 with Samba 2.x and all computers could print to both printers (which, obviously, were shared). I have recently rebuilt the LInux box, and in the process installed Fedora, with Samba

Win98/HP Printer problem. Partially Solved.
I set up a print/fax server here using RH Linux 6.0, and Samba 2.0.3. The printer is an old (but still very reliable) HP Laserjet 4. Printing from the Linux box using lpr works fine. However, whenever someone tries to print from a Windows98 box through SAMBA, there is an extra page printed on the end. This gets really annoying to the users, more so because the extra pages cannot be put back into

CUPS/Printing
RH Linux 9 on AMD k6-2 500 Using HP deskjet 930c on USB Samba version: 2.2.7a cups version: 1.1.18 Hello - I have had a good look on this newsgroup - and what I've picked up I think is allowing me to ask these questions more intelligently. I've also had a good look at the CUPS documentation aswell as the Samba documentation. 1. Am I correct is assuming that CUPS only likes postscript,

printing via samba w/ cups server
Hi, I have a bizarre printing problem, and i think i've narrowed it down to either samba, or the way windows packages the file to be printed. I've recently implemented a new server. Users print through the linux server from their windows desktop machines. OLD server: -samba 2.0.7, which uses lpd NEW server: -samba 2.2.3, which uses cups The old server can print to the printer (Savin

Hi Jerry, Thank you for this statement! ... the problem in the last days/weeks was, no infos from the team members! It is no big problem if something is not working. But, if we are making tests and reports bugs/problems and so on ... And no one from the team give a answer ! This will make us crazy, too. You and all of the team members make a great job! ... we will see us in Goettingen!

Filtering ^D and PCL headers in samba print jobs under Solaris
This is my way of filtering ^D and PCL headers out of samba jobs on a solaris 7 system. It assumes that all your printers are capable of postscript, and that you are using PS drivers on any printers are not PCL capable. 1) Add a declaration of pcl capability to the relevant printers: lpadmin -p hp8000 -I 'simple, postscript, pcl' Choose which printers you do this to carefully, Using

more on ailing printer system
I cranked the debug level to 10. Below is a transcript from the client log file of a client trying to open a Properties dialog for the HP 4500 printer. I am puzzled as to why Samba would be looking for a user with the name of a printer. Is this normal behavior? Anyway, about a minute after the last log entry below, the client showed a dialog "Printer properties cannot be

Hi All, Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

deskjet on Solaris
Can someone please help me with this problem? I've had this post on for a long time with no luck. I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box running samba 2.2.2 from Win98. Problem is with the left margine, there are these little lines (garbage) running down the 1st collumn on the left side of the page. Also, when I print a page from Word 97, the whole page

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on Redhat 8 (fully updated). I have two printers set up - a laser and a Deskjet 920C both connected to the Redhat server via USB cables. Printing is managed using CUPS although I get the same problem with LPR and Webmin configured printers. The laser works fine, the deskjet doesn't. The deskjet works with a generic windows HP Deskjet or HP Deskjet plus driver in

Mail Merge data to a pdf file by overlaying the data on the image
Everyone, I am looking for a utility that I can use to do a mail merge of data to a pdf image file. The image file does not have any active fields, but will be just an image file. I would like to overlay names addresses etc. We currently do this with a pcl file by just overlaying the data with pcl print positions. However, in order to get the pcl file from an original pdf file we have to
