Samba as fileserver in an Windows AD Domain
Hallo,
I tried to setup a SuSE10.2 with samba 3.0.23d (but the same trouble with
SuSE11.1).
I got a valid Kerberos Ticket and joined successfully the domain (with net
join).
Users and group are displayed with wbinfo -u / -g . I could also verify
accounts with wbinfo -a user%pass.
When I tried to access the shares, the dialog apears to give the
credentials. It doesn't matter what you

MIT Kerberos 5 won't work with latest Samba 3.0.0cvs
As I learned from former threads, "net ads join" should not only join the Samba
server to ADS, but also create Kerberos 5 credentials on the Linux box running
Samba 3.0.
Well, thanks Jerry joining the Samba 3.0 to ADS works now, but I won't get any
Kerberos 5 credentials. winbindd throws errors because of missing Kerberos
credentials.
Kerberos 5 support is copiled into my samba

smbmount and PCShare [Helios]
I tried to mount a PCShare file system with smbmount and was
surprised to see that there is a problem while writing files to the
mounted file system. I can read everything and move things an
make directories within the shared file system. But if I try to copy
a file from the local disk (LINUX SuSE 8.1) to the shared file
system I get an I/O error. I suppose that this is not a permission

Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC
http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to
Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently
running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only
getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when

Apache Not Serving, But Is Serving?
Hi;
I installed
yum install mod_python
and all went well. So I thought it would be appropriate to reboot apache
apachectl -k restart
and it appeared well but the pages don't load (they hang). Nevertheless,
# ps wax|grep httpd
12179 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd
17698 ? Z 0:00 [httpd] <defunct>
17703 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep httpd
So what gives? Please advise.

AW: recycle under samba-3.0.0beta2-1 - supplement
Denis,
I have checked this and verify that this is a bug. You can track the
progress towards fixing this from https://bugzilla.samba.org as bug #210.
Thanks for the feedback.

Compile issues /w kerberos - Samba - 3.0 b2
I get the following compile error when compiling. It appears to be
coming from KRB5LIBS. I'm not sure if it is a bug that needs to be
addressed or if I screwed something up? I'm using the standard source:

static file serving
Hi,
I''ve got 40 mongrels running across 4 machines with a hardware load
balancer as a proxy. The mongrels serve everything, even files.
How screwed am I if I have a 2MB file on my site? Say 40 people are
downloading that file. Are the mongrels completely locked up?

[OT] Serving Multiple Stylesheets
I was wondering whether there is unbearable overhead involved in breaking css
into multiple stylesheets? I''m running lighttpd, and the following article
discusses why one might want to do that:
http://justinfrench.com/?id=141
My CSS is beginning to get a bit lumpy to digest in one glance and the
article(s) seem to make a cogent argument for separating functional elements
out. I just

upload file above /public, authenticate before serving?
I have file uploads to the database and stored in a longblob working on
our client extranet, except that it kills mysql/activeRecord on files
bigger than about 200kb. (is there a reason for this - running mysql
5.0.18, lighttpd or webrick on winxp??)
So I''m now thinking about whether its possible to do either:
1) upload a file into #rails_root/some_folder/ instead of
