ext2fs_read_bb_inode: Invalid argument && Can't read an block bitmap
Hello, sorry if the question was asked a couple of times before but I couldn't find any useful hinds to this problem using google and the listman search-engine of the archive of this list. Somehow the ext3 filesystem on one of my machines died an after a reboot grub wouldn't come up again. What I did so far: fsck -y /dev/hda4 fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004) e2fsck 1.35 (28-Feb-2004)

core dumped messages from tune2fs
I decided to start using ext3. My kernel 2.4.15p9. I downloaded and build util-linux-2.11m and e2fsprogs 1.25. I compiled ext3 in the kernel. I started converting my filesystems and thing went ok for the first few. I then started getting the following on each additional filesystem. [root@joker /root]# tune2fs -j /dev/hdc4 tune2fs 1.25 (20-Sep-2001) Creating journal inode: done This filesystem

I am trying to compile 2.4.10-ac11 w/ the ext3-2.4-0.9.12-2410ac11 patch. e2fsck on ext3 is 10x slower than ext2
Hi. I'm using Debian. Is this a Redhat-only list, or is it only hosted by RedHat? I recently changed my filing systems over to ext3, but deliberately left the forced boot check parameters alone so my system checks after 20 mounts. I notice that the fsck takes a good ten times longer than under ext2, to perform the cleanly unmounted check. (On the occasion where I did unmount dirtily, the

LVM repairing or back to regular ext3?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for correcting errors on an HD when using LVM? I've tried e2fsck and indicates bad block. I've tried with -b 8193, 16384, and 32768 and no good. I've found some info about reiserfsck on google, but this utility doesn't seem to be included in Centos4.3. I did find it on my old FC1 box. I am thinking now I really should have went with

My fault (not ext3's!) and kernel panic on 2.4.7 .
Hello all. I was playing with tune2fs to see how large the .journal file should be on a 17G partition with 512M ram (it's 32M, by the way). I am using plain 2.4.7 with ext3-2.4-0.9.4-247, compiled with gcc-2.96-85 on a RH7.1 distribution with the relevant changes, i.e. e2fsprogs-1.22-1, mount-2.11g-4 and util-linux-2.11f-3 taken from rawhide. I don't have any ext3 statement in /etc/fstab,

Does ext3 file system use a '.journal' file?
Greetings, I recently cpio-ed some user directories onto a new ext3 partion. After putting this file server's partition into production, I noticed a .journal file in the root directory of the partition dated well before the creation of this partition. I think this .journal file was copied over from the old filesystem and I am concerned that I over-wrote this current filesystem's

removing external journal
Hi, I have a system with an ext4 filesystem with its journal on an other device (an SSD). Now this SSD dropped of the sata bus so the filesystem went r/o. I would like to remove the journal but it says it can't because needs_check is set. I can't run fsck because the journal is not reachable. Is there any way to solve this? I understand I lost any pending changes in the journal. regards

ext3->ext2->ext3 and unclean umount
Suppose I have the latest and greatest e2fsprogs. >From reading the docs I understand that 1) boot ext3, clean umount - you can remount ext3 or ext2 2) boot ext3, unclean umount - you can remount ext3 - you can e2fsck and remount ext2 Does this mean that normal linux init script e2fsck will do it, in case fstab says ext2? Or you should make sure to run e2fsck by hand with -f? 3) boot

Visible /.journal
Hello On root Partition is .journal visible . On all other Partitions is invisible. At which way I can move it manually to a hiden inode? I have delete with chattr -i /.journal rm -f /.journal and installed ext3 with tune2fs -j /dev/hdb1 And /.journal is again visible! -- MfG / With best Regards Rusmir Duško Registered Linux user: #130654 http://counter.li.org

ext3 .journal location?
Forgive my novice question, but I am a new student of Linux working on presenting the ext3 journaling filesystem to my class. I seek any advice on how to visibly demonstrate (including a purposeful crash of a Linux box) the benefits of ext3 over ext2. I am not worthy to lick the bootstraps of this group, but I beg for any help! The problem I am having extends to even locating the .journal file

L2ARC in clusters
Hi, When deploying ZFS in cluster environment it would be nice to be able to have some SSDs as local drives (not on SAN) and when pool switches over to the other node zfs would pick up the node''s local disk drives as L2ARC. To better clarify what I mean lets assume there is a 2-node cluster with 1sx 2540 disk array. Now lets put 4x SSDs in each node (as internal/local drives). Now
