How does WinXP pass username/password?: NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
I have a small network that includes two Linux computers and one Windows XP Pro computer. I'm trying to get share my Linux resources properly with the Windows computer. If I set it for share level security and set a user name for each share, along with guest ok, then I can get in as whichever user I've set... even root. I've tried a few scenarios with a basic smb.conf and I have

Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?) Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses. Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be an annoyance. I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who stores valid executables in

getent showing wrong gids af
The only thing I know is that tdb files are Trivial DataBase files. So it's a database used by samba to persistently store stuff. The file I was refering to accidentally had "winbind" and "id" in its name, so I just deleted it to see what it gives. Seems I made the right choice. I have no idea how to view these files though. Maybe someone on the list knows?

Traffic Control
So after reading the traffic control documentation at shorewall.net I am a little confused. I don''t understand how to use the tcrules file. What I would ideally like to do is setup htb on a per user basis (either by IP or MAC address). If anybody has any hints on the best way to do this or is willing to explain the use of tcrules file a little better (how I could mark it per IP or MAC)

Hi All, I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there. I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that). [2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364) getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number) It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern. Below are the details LInux

Can't find samba server after new NIC installed
Hi All, Perhaps you guys can help me shed some light on this 'problem' I'm facing. Fedora Core 2 running Samba 3.0.7-2.FC2 Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition After much fuss, I was able to get it to join the domain (had to disable client signing).
