AW: Tall tale of woe....
Hello Ross,
I've got a similar problem since a week with my server.
I'm running RH 8.0 on a Xeon 1.4Ghz with 2GB RAM, too.
My CPU usage was pretty low (>90% idle) but the CPU load average was at 14.
For now I'm waiting for the next time it happens to get some more
information.
Best regards, Reiner

Trying to debug a WinXP - Win2000 ADSproblem..HELP!
Now I could be way of base here, but I run 2 samba web servers with approx 8 people working with them.
So my exp is limited. When I got here the boxes were set up with server level security and I had tons of problems with them.
When I reformatted the units, I actually joined the samba boxes to the domain and set the security to "domain"
I found these steps in an old version of Linux-Mag,

[LLVMdev] AliasAnalysis update interface - a tale of sorrow and woe
Greetings folks,
As I'm working on refactoring the AA interfaces in LLVM to prepare for the
new pass manager, I keep hitting issues. Some of the complexity that is
hitting this stems from the update API, which consists of three virtual
functions:
deleteValue(Value *V)
copyValue(Value *From, Value *To)
addEscapingUse(Use &U)
These interfaces are *very* rarely called. Here are the only

Ssh-add question.
Is there a way to change the default no-argument behavior of ssh-add from
adding $HOME/.ssh/identity to another type?
Thanks,

Problems connecting to Samba using windows XP
Hi,
We are having difficulty connecting to a samba server using windows XP pro.
Plain text is enabled and we can search for the server on the network, but
as soon as we map a drive to it, it asks for a username and password. We
enter this and then it asks for a password relating to a guest account.
Can anyone help me with why it defaults to the guest account?
Regards
Phil

Strange problem from "identical" hosts
Long post.. sorry.
Ok.. I've got three systems, all running openssh-3.0.2p1. As a matter
of fact, they were installed from the same built tree, so I know they are
the same.
Here's the deal. I've got three systems, call them source1, source2 and
target. All are HP-UX 11.0 systems installed from the same tree.
Source1 and source2 both have thier root rsa pub keys in target's

Can scaffold do tall tables instead of wide?
I''m trying to get data in rows instead of columns by default.
The default scaffold behavior is to create an initial table layout with
column headers along the top. In some cases this creates really wide
tables which require horizontal scrolling. Is there a parameter I can
use with scaffolding or a hack to get the header cells along the left
side of the table instead?

Reshaping data from wide to tall format for multilevel modeling
Hi,
I'm trying to reshape my data set from wide to tall format for multilevel
modeling. Unfortunately, the function I typically use (make.univ from the
multilevel package) does not appear to work with unbalanced data frames,
which is what I'm dealing with.
Below is an example of the columns of a data frame similar to what I'm
working with:

Tale of kernel 2.2.19 upgrading
I'm a bit of newbie to Wine in many respects so this may be obvious to more
seasoned Wine veterans, in which case I apologize.
I rely on Wine to run Lotus Notes on Linux - this project has released me from
my NT workstation :-) So after a kernel upgrade from 2.2.17-21mdk (as supplied
with Mandrake 7.2) to an unpatched 2.2.19 about the first thing I tried was
Lotus Notes on Wine. Parts of it

Tall free number via FWD over IXA2
I've setup my IAX2 over FWD and it is working I can receive a test call
and I can call out.
Though I cannot figure out how to dial 1-800 numbers over FWD
When I dial 1-800 it hangs up on me.
Here is a typical session:

Priston Tale 2, Wine 1.3.24 - can't get past launcher.
Hello.
I have a problem running Priston Tale 2. In AppDB it is listed as PLatinum, but I can't get past launcher(it looks like this http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/840/zrzutekranuaw.png/). There is no update process visible, and when I click "Play" it just hangs.
I am using Ubuntu 10.4(lucid) with Radeon Mobility HD 4570(Catalyst 11.6 drivers).

A cautionary tale on multiple databases under a single Rails app
Here is a cautionary tale to help others avoid my folly!
I kept running into bizarre problems with my rails app. I run the latest
Rails with FastCGI, Oracle 10g and Apache 1.x. After moderate load the
server would throw up application errors. Looking in the logs I noticed
that my underlying Oracle DB was complaining that it had opened too many
processes and won''t open any more. Hmm...

Slow logon with samba
Hi all.
Everything has been running great, untill 2 weeks ago when I applied redhat
errata including a new kernel. (done it loads of times before)
Rebooted and all seemed ok (it was half term for me, so maybe 20 users in at
the very most)
It wasn't until last week people started to complain about how long it was
taking to log in. unfortunatly everytime I tried it went in straight away.

A tale about pci and xen
Hi there,
Just want to share a issue that i had with a DVB pci card on domU. I´m
using xen 3.1 (so far the one that works best with my various pci
passthrough devices), and I wanted to export a DVB pci card to a mythtv
backend domU. The domU could see the device, and load the modules
correctly, but when it tried to use the device the domU froze, and cpu
went 100%. After trying a lot of

Migrating Domain from TNG to 2.2.2: A cautionary tale
Hello,
We recently undertook to migrate our domain from samba-TNG to samba-2.2.2.
However, it did not go smoothly. One of the main reasons is that even
if you start 2.2.2 with the domain SID from the TNG installation, you
find that the users' RIDs are different. This is because samba-TNG
calculates the RID from the unix UID using the formula UID*4 + 1000
where as 2.2.2 uses UID*2 +1000.

The Cautionary Tale of Multi-Arch glib
I'm mainly writing this in hopes that it gets picked up by Google in
case anyone else runs into this problem.
I was going to distribute the source & binaries for the first sneaky-
peek at Swfdec for Mac OS X today. But yesterday, when I tried running
my player application within Mac OS X's PowerPC emulator (Rosetta), I
noticed it was crashing in some animations with the
