Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi, I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for UNIX logons. wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows the contents of the file /etc/passwd. I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. Any comments would be

Point&Print adding NT/2K drivers issue
Hi all, Samba 3.0.7 and using CUPS printing. I am logged in as root to an XP Pro system, I have used the APW to install the XP drivers to all of my printers. I went to Shared and clicked "Additional Drivers" and checkmarked both 9x and NT/2K boxes. Using drivers straight from the HP website, the 9x driver installs fine, but it seems like I can't get any NT/2K drivers to

Point'n'Print: adddriver / WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Dear list, This problem has been bugging me for days now, I've got Cups version 1.1.21 and Samba 3.0.7 installed and working. There is a single Laserjet 4100 attached to the network, printing via Cups or Cups/Samba works fine. The problems are with getting Point'n'Print to work. I've been scouring the net, archived posts of this list, read the official Samba manual, to no

smbclient -L shows only a part of the shares
Hi, I am using Samba 3.0.1 under Debian Unstable (Kernel 2.4.22). (But also tried this with 2.2.8 with the same results) I use the command "smbclient -L netbios_name -Uname%pw" to list the shares of one of the servers of an ADS Domain. Unfortunately only about 30% of the shares of this particular server appear in the list. In windows all shares are visible. I used the same account in

Samba 3 as Domain Member / W2k ADS
Hi, I set up Samba to be a Domain Member in W2k ADS Domain. The authentication basically works, the only problem is, that a unix account with the same name is needed on the samba machine for it to work. (The pw though checked against the ad.) How do I get rid of the neccessity to have corresponding unix accounts for the ads users? Thanks in Advance, Rainer

HP LJ6 prints blank page at end of W95 print job
I'm trying to use an HP LJ6 as a network printer on a Samba server (linux). Everything works fine except... whenever a W95 print job finishes, the printer throws a blank page. I've tried everything short of hex dumping the output - I've tried using a minimal printcap entry with no filtering, I've tried using apsfilter... The really odd thing is the binary data itself can't be

Excessive file traffic when viewing Printer Properties with 3.0.11
List, I have a printer on a BDC at the other end of a VPN tunnel, and updating the printer properties (such as loading additional driver files or configuring the paper size) of a printer that is installed on it is very slow, on the order of half an hour for basic operations. Just opening the properties dialog box results in all the driver files for the printer being read. Many times. Very slowly.
