3.0.6 and pam_winbind problems (sernet)?
Recently I upgraded a server from samba 3.0.2a to 3.0.6, and now apache
won't authenticate properly with pam_winbind. Winbind's been restarted,
apache has been restarted, for grins I even rebooted the server.

Switched back to 3.0.21c. Ouch, access to shares is not granted anymore :(

Print Server Degradation
Our Samba print server seems to slowly degrade, and get more and more
errors over time, until it starts recieving "tdb fetch failed" messages,
fatal errors, and getting INTERNAL PANIC's and dumping core etc....
I believe this to be related to .tdb corruption, but the tdbbackup utility
does not see any problem with the TDB's. Eventually, certain printers will

Experimental support for regedit.exe
FYI...
If anyone is interested, i just finished implementing supporting
for exporting printer & printer driver information stored
in the various tdb's via the registry RPC routines.
This code has been checked into HEAD already. I'm not planning
on including it in any 2.2 bug fix releases, but thought some
people might be curious to try it out. My main intent for
implementing this

Setting up Point 'n' Print
I am having some problems with uploading printer drivers. I follow the
procedures as outlined in both TOSHARG and Samba-3 by Example, and I use the
Add Printer Drivers Wizard to upload the drivers. It looks OK, and the
drivers make into the \\server\print$\W32X86\3 directory. But when I click
okay, I get "Printer settings could not be saved. Access is denied." This
happens when

Permission error on /etc/samba/private/secrets.tdb
Hi list,
I have a strange permission problem with secrets.tdb on an nfs mounted
filesystem.
A strace of smbd shows the following lines:

Samba on Tru64 UNIX Cluster
Hi list,
I am planning to deploy samba 2.2.6 on a two-node cluster running Tru64 UNIX
5.1A. Each node will be running an instance of samba providing different
services, but I want the locks directory to be shared between them so that if
one node goes down, the other can take over its services and still have correct
information about open files etc.
My question:
Can the tdb's handle being

memory issues with samba 3.0.10
I'm still having problems with that memory issue using 3.0.10 with v.2
of the printing patch + the one line patch from Jerome Borsboom. My
production server has completely frozen a couple times in the past
couple weeks, and did so again this morning. This time before
restarting samba I removed the tdb files in /var/lib/samba/printing/*
as Jerry mentioned this might help the queue not

Want to recreate db.
Hiya
So im trying to get my PDC working. Started off small and then exported
my smbpasswd to tdbsam with pdbedit.
The next thing I saw was all the Linux system account (irc, game, mail,
etc) listed via pdbedit and srvtool's
I think I have done something wrong. I would like to start from scratch
and clear restart the tdb's
My question is, can I just delete the tdb files. If not,

Reproducible Printer Properties PANIC in Samba 3.0.22-25 (CIFS/9000 A2.03.01)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Good day all,
I am running CIFS/9000 (which is based on Samba 3.0.22 with, I'm
guessing, security and serious bug fixes through 3.0.25 -- it's not all
that clear), and running all of this on an HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC server.
The problem I have is when I do a right-click on a mapped printer and
ask for the properties, my connected daemon

Authentication fails - 3.0.26a-0.9-1787-SUSE-SLES9
I recently brought up our fifth Samba domain member server with
3.0.26a-0.9-1787-SUSE-SLES9 against an NT4 domain on a new subnet. The
subnet also has an NT4 BDC that is working correctly. Wbinfo and getent
both work properly but users can not get to the [homes] service but can
get to another share that is on the same system. If I setup a share
definition in smb.conf for myself as a home

specified network name is no longer available
Hi Volker,
Jordan Coleman, Murray Taylor, David Kennel,
Frederic Corne and Stephen Jones all wrote
about the problem of a specified network
intermittently reported "no longer available"
when writing to a file.
It's the same problem which I complained
about on April 7. I then assumed it had to
do with the presence of a w2k3 server in
the domain. The problem disappeared after

tdb2 idmap script issue
Hi folks,
In our happy adventures in ID mapping between windows and Unix, I've
come across an odd issue with the idmap : script mapping method when
using tdb2.
Basically - my idmap script behaves like this:
#idmap.sh IDTOSID GID 123456
SID:S-blah-blah-blah
as one would hope, and as per the requirements in the idmap_tdb2 man
page. Similarly, it'll return UID:123545 or GID:1234356 in

Re: specified network name no more available
I was stung by this bug yesterday myself and although
there are numerous references to this error message
I haven't seen any qualified resolution of the problem.
Not that the following rant hopes to be such, but it's
a good story.
My setup is a stable 2.2.8a production domain and an
experimental 3.0.2a-SuSE domain. The passwd backend is
still smbpasswd. I wish there were a better

classicupgrade migration issues
Sorry for the long post but attempted this several over the past year
with no success but staying on an NT4 domain is no longer viable. Need
to get this resolved so hopefully there will be a clue somewhere in
this montage.
The current PDC is samba-3.6.25 running on Gentoo using tdbsam backend.
The new AD will be a Debian LXC container running on Debian Jessie
using samba compiled from git

does samba support non-flat /home
Hi all,
I hope this is an easy one:
We've just set up a samba server and We're using winbind with the
idmap_rid backend option to authenticate users via AD. So far so good!
Now we want window users to have there home shares on the samba
server.
When Winbind pulls a list of users from AD it appears to use the
template homedir option in our smb.conf to figure out where users home

Samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0
Samba Team,
How do I create simulated load on a samba server? I wish to use
feedback-directed program restructuring on AIX 5.2 to determine if
performance can be improved by rearranging the executable generated by the
IBM 6.0 compiler.
Mostly I'm determining what the upper bound on smbd's is in a
multiprogramming environment. I'm currently running about between 800 and

Run away samba, and free() errors
Hi,
I'm running samba 3.0.22, and have reproduced this issue in 3.0.14a as
well. I am trying to access a network share with a large number of long
directory names (up to around 80 characters), with around 1100 of these
directories. Some times it works, but most of the time, the windows
machine (running windows server 2003) never gets the listing. It seems to
try to reconnect, and samba starts
