Printer Rights Fail
Hello everyone, I upgraded my Samba server on my RHL 7.2 box from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7. Almost immediately afterwards, all of my admin users suddenly were unable to access the printers that were being shared by Samba. Any idea of what is wrong and how to fix it? The messages I'm getting are that I do not have enough rights. I am using a Windows 2000 Server PDC and a lot of Windows XP Pro, and

How can I tell which users are currently connected?
I am running RHL 7.2 with Samba 2.2.3a using a W2K DC for authentication via winbind. From the linux box, how can I find out which users are currently connected to my box via Samba? This would help a lot when I need to reboot the server or restart the samba service because of changes that need to immediately go into effect. Thanks Kevin Bramblett

Multiple Groups, Different Permissions problem
Hello everyone, I need to setup some directories (in RHL 7.2 running Samba 2.2.3a w/ W2K PDC) to allow multiple groups, each of which has different permissions. If this can be done on the Linux side, this would be preferred, but if it has to be done in Samba, any help in understanding how to make this happen is appreciated. I know Windows NT/W2K allows multiple groups and I would think Linux

Major Printing Failure Problem
Hi everyone, I am using Samba 2.2.3a on a Redhat Linux 7.2 Intel server as a printserver on a W2K PDC network. I have a Xerox 440 printer, an HP 4500 PS and an HP 4550 PS printer using my Samba printserver. I am often receiving the following error message: ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: STACK: at which point printing stops and the printers start saying TIMEOUT. Sometimes I can reprint

Is anyone maintaining the smb filesystem?
Is anyone maintaining the smb filesystem in the Linux kernel? Emails to the Email address urban@teststation.com of Urban Widmark that is listed in MAINTAINERS are bouncing. Can anyone tell how to reach Urban and/or whether anyone is currently maintaining smbfs? TIA Adrian -- "Is there not promise of rain?" Ling Tan asked suddenly out of the darkness. There had been

RE: [PATCH] smbfs readdir fix (CFT: NetApp, OS/2)
Vlad. I still got the same problem - 'ls | wc -l' returned incorretc numbers. I installed the following patches with the sequence vs. the kerner 2.4.18: 1. 00-smbfs-2.4.18-codepage.patch.gz 2. 01-smbfs-2.4.18-lfs.patch.gz 3. 02-smbfs-2.4.18-unicode.patch.gz 4. smbfs-2.4.19-pre9-readdir.patch After installed patches, I ran 'make modules' and so on. FW: smbmount question
Nevermind...need to read the whole msg... I didn't notice you were installing WINS on the NT box...hence the reboot. Standard practice for Winxx: 1. Install, reboot 2. Update, reboot, repeat.... I support about 25 pc's-it annoys the hell out of me how MS manages updates. How many Internet Explorer security updates have there been so far this year-22? Each one of them requires a

SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb, 400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a dream with no sign of any problems at all. I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway

[PATCH] nomtab support
This patch was sent to me by Urban Widmark <urban@teststation.com> (thanks Urban!). It allows me to mount remote Win shares to my Linux box automatically. I'm using kernel automounter. The problem was that I have a ro root fs and my /etc/mtab isn't writable (symlinked to /proc/mounts). Patch adds -n and -o nomtab options for smbmount. -o nomtab was particularly useful for me. I

BackupExec Agent on Samba
Is there an improved BackupExec Unix agent available that works with Samba? If not, can someone tell me how to work around the lack of the archive bit that Linux has? In particular, RedHat Linux 7.2 is the system I'm looking for help on. I found the following hints in an older version of this newsletter, Samba Digest, Vol. 3, Issue 34, sent March 21, 2003, that had this in it: Yes, we have

Edit the file called src/EDITME and put the result in a file called Local/Makefile. Then you may proceed ... and next time ... you post an error message you may want to be specific ... not "or something like that" ... Limiting User Space on Samba Share
Hi, Can someone tell me if Samba can limit users to certain amounts of space on specified shares? If so, where would I go to find out how to implement it? I have the following setup: RHL 7.2, Samba 2.2.3a using a Windows 2000 PDC with Winbind. I want to be able to set a limit for each user on certain folders/shares on the Linux box that they are accessing from Windows systems. Thanks, Kevin
