samba on a non-active-directory 2k domain plus bestbits ACL suppo rt
I don't know exactly the appropriate list to ask this question in but the
web page gave me the impression this was.
I don't particularly want to subscribe to the list as I can't handle the
volume of messages which I'm not concerned with.
I would just like to be able to ask a question concerning the email subject
and receive ONLY replys to that message. I'm not too familiar with

Inheritance of ACLs with Samba
Hello dear list members
I am not an experienced user of Samba, so I can be committing some basic
mistake, but it seems to me that there is something wrong with the way
Samba propagates ACLs. I tried versions 3.0.32 and 3.2.4 and the result
is the same. This happens with "map acl inherit = yes" on smb.conf.
I have a directory (dir) with the following ACLs:
# file: dir

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file:
[root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/
[root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al

Problem with ACLs "Too many ACE entries for file to convert to posix perms."
At the suggestion of Stas, I'm starting a new thread on this one. This
pretty much covers where I'm at right now:
Doug, thanks, here's a complete listing of the config file, and some
logging, hopefully this will be illuminating to somebody.

Yes, I've been setting it in the init script. When I do ps -ef | grep
smbd, I see that

SYSTEM gid=70006 in POSIX ACLs ?
Hey all,
I decided to use the default ranges in the smb.conf of my member server, so I changed my smb.conf and it looks like that:
==================================================

netbios name = MEMBERSRV
workgroup = MYDOM
security = ADS
realm = MYDOM.EXAMPLE.COM
encrypt passwords = yes
idmap config MYDOM:backend = ad

Can't create/update Group Policy in Samba 4.6.5
Hai, the steps are (basily) good, only this one can be better.

If you use acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes on the sysvol share, you must configur the share from withing windows. (* or use smbcalcs , but i never used it. )
This is what i see:
ls -al sysvol

Nothing happens between posix permissions (acls) and windows permissions
(ACLs), they are different, see:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares_with_Windows_ACLs
On Unix, you can set read, write and execute/enter

setting up W7 profiles
Bob, to the following..
set the in smb.conf not more not less.
On the member server.
[profiles$]
path = /home/samba/TEST/profiles
read only = no
acl_xattr:ignore system acl = yes
restart samba
now type
chown root:root /home/samba/TEST/profiles
chmod 1777 /home/samba/TEST/profiles
Now go to the wiki and set the correct rights for a profile share.
