Controlling Dovecot with Webmin
Dear Sir
I have just setup a Fedora 4SE server, with Webmin - latest production
release and Dovecot .99.14.
The only way to start dovecot is to be logged into the server as root -
locally or ssh, and type the dovecot command.
>From Webmin - logged in as ROOT, when I attempt to start Dovecot it tells me
that it can't because it can not open the config file - permission denied.

Update on Using Dovecot with Webmin
First of all thanks for the replies.
I have decided to try the updated version 1.0 alpha
After uninstalling Dovecot .99 and cleaning up user, groups and files.
(Dovecot .99 was authenticating as best I can tell using unix users = the
default -- and PAM = the default - I only had to setup the PAM if I
remember correctly.
Loaded Dovecot 1.0, made sure user, folders and files all seem to be

Debugging sendmail
I have Centos 4 running on my server. During bootup, it hangs on the
starting of sendmail. When I use the GUI interface to check what
services are running, sendmail is shown to be running. However, if I
try a restart, it just hangs.
If I try to send mail with the php sendmail, it times out.
My Linux skills are limited, so I am not sure what steps I should follow
to debug the problem.

I wanted to get a little feedback on a product for
Administrating a Linux Server that I am running Samba,
Apache, and NCFTP. The Product is Webadmin. I have it
installed currently and was wondering if anyone else was
using this. If so, what kind of problems have you had with
it or are you pleased with it. My biggest concern is Samba.
There is a feature on Webmin that as long as you use the

Sendmail Dovecot Trouble
Having reinstalled CentOS 7 including e-mail server in initial software
configuration it installed Postfix/Dovecot.
I've been using Sendmail for 20 years and no experience with Postfix.?
Looked in Webmin -> servers -> Postfix and specified Maildir, changed
the 10-mail.conf to specify
mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir
and everything's working.
Thanks for help.

Hello:
I have set up samba and webmin on my Mandrake 9.2 system (P4 1.7GHz,
512Mb RAM, 60G HD). My windows clients can see the shared folders but
are prompted for a password when trying to access the share.
1. How do I set a password in Webmin?
2. Can I nest directories that I create in Webmin for Samba use?

Player loading the file when you click on it.
To work around this I had to go into Windows Explorer and change the folder
options from "Enable Web Contents in Folders" to "Use Windows Classic
Folders". This way, Windows Media player won't load the file when you click
on it.

Moving from one server to another with rsync?
Hi,
I am currently in the process of migrating from RH 7.3 to RHEL ES 3.0 on my
system. Of course there is a lot of iles that will need to change server
(new server is ready). My question is of course what is the best way to do
this? My thought is rsync with a function like this:
1: Running rsync once to get all the files over to my new system
2: Running rsync several times to keep the files

Changing SWAT user?
I just loaded Mandrake 7.1 and Samba with Webmin. I can get into Webmin
and make changes to the Samba server, but I'm not able to get smbd or
nmbd running. When I try to get into SWAT to make changes it keeps
reverting back to my login which does not allow me to make changes. Is
there a way to reset this?
Also, any ideas on why smdb and smdb is not running?
