Is Samba 3 stable for Mandrake 9.2?
Not to be the annoying child, but I have found myself uniquely annoyed that I can't update RPMs that include Samba 3, and I'm not certain if that's because it's even ready for Mandrake 9.2. Does anyone have a bead on this? Should I just go back to 2.2.8 and wait for the stable, or can someone point out a URL that has a stable 3.0 on it? Thanks Eric

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED - Samba on Mandrake 8.2
I am attempting to integrate a Linux Samba Server with an NT 4.0 PDC. Ideally I am looking to authenticate the users on the PDC, and then permit access to the Samba Shares on the Linux Box. I have several issues, but the one which is presenting itself currently is when I attempt to Browse the PDC using smbclient. I get the following: smbclient -L dumbo added interface ip=192.168.0.11

Warning when updating Samba via mandrake update
I've just done a update of Samba from 2.2.4 to 2.2.6. After installing everything it says some files were modified, ie smb.conf, and gives you the option to view the changes. It removed all my shared folders, removed settings from 'global' and changed lines for cups and other bits and pieces. Some changes are highlighted in green and the ones it removes are in red with '-'

Upgrade Samba 2.2.6 to 2.2.8 by novice
Hi, I would like to install SWAT to administer Samba on my Mandrake 9.0 server. The Swat file is ver 2.2.8 while my Samba is version 2.2.6. The installation aborts because of version differences. I have tried to upgrade Samba to version 2.2.8 but run into other problems with dependencies. Am I correct in thinking that I have to uninstall Samba first and then re-install the later version? And if

Samba 2.2.8 doesn't allow to write to group share
Two issues, and I'll discuss them both: I created on my NT4 domain a group called "branch99". They're a "local group" as far as NT is concerned, and it has two members; myself, and another fellow down the hall. My end quest is to create a share on a Mandrake 9.2 box running Samba 2.2.8, and have it permit or deny file access based on NT's typical discretions.

Mandrake Binaries
I lost my bookmarks to the samba binaries compiled for Mandrake 9.0. I'd like to mess around with the 3.0 stuff. I remember there were 2 ftp sites that stayed pretty current. I'd like to add them to URPMI so I can update easily. Thanks Jim

samba 3 mandrake rpms...where is net tool?
I installed the RPMS from samba web site for Mandrake 9.1. Configuration is weird as things are labeled smbd3 or winbind3... Testparm runs against /etc/samba/smb.conf yet swat configures the smb.conf in a different location...hmm.... But really my problem is joining the AD domain as a member server. I can't locate the net tool. How is this done? How does testparm know to test against

Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Hi all, As promised, I have started a howto document on setting up Samba with NT ACL support, based on experiences in my workplace, as documentation for this seems to be on the short side at the moment. It is available at the following address: http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material (probably

Is there a buffer or cache setting in samba?
Hi. Can anyone tell me if samba has any settings that determine how much data gets cached or buffered in RAM before being written to the computer's hard drives? I'm having a strange problem and I suspect that the explanation has to do with that kind of setting. I am using a Linux system (P4-3.06 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 2.4.22 kernel, samba 2.2.8a) to store video and audio files that can

Which Linux best suits Samba3?
In a discussion with one of the main answer people, of whose time I am greatly appreciative, it was suggested that some of my problem (or solution) may be to run Samba on a distro that's better suited for it. Problem is, I don't have the time nor the inclination to download a bunch of distros just to install, test, fdisk, repeat. So I ask. what is a recommended recent distro that works

nufa and missing files
We're using gluster-2.0.1 and a nufa volume comprised of thirteen subvolumes across thirteen hosts. We've found today that there are some files in the local filesystem associated with the subvolume from one of the hosts that are not being seen in the nufa volume on any gluster client. I don't know how or when this happened, but now we have to do some work to get this gluster volume

I see my samba server but.............
Here I go guys! I've already changed the configuration of my sbm.conf, also I made my samba server to be configured as a windows domain, yes! it is found in my windows domain now but as doing double click on this machine (samba) it asks me for a user and passsword, it does not let me get into it, I have created the same samba users as windows, but without any results. I appreciate your help :

[PATCH 0/4] supermin: use dnf on Mageia
Hi, as pointed out by Neal Gompa, Mageia recently introduced dnf in the distribution (currently only in Cauldron, which is the future Mageia 6), and most probably it will replace urpmi in the future. As such, on Mageia make supermin prefer dnf over urpmi when found, using the same code already used for Fedora. Related change: make test-harder.sh work explicitly also on Mageia

[PATCH v2 0/3 supermin] URPMI & xz support.
Joseph, Please try my modified versions of these patches. These are compile-tested on Fedora and they don't break any existing functionality, but I don't have either urpmi nor a statically-linked xz so I cannot fully test them. I have also fixed detection of zlib (2/3). Rich.
