Time attributes in LDAP SAM
I am updateding my LDAP presentation (ftp://kalamazoolinux.org/pub/pdf/ldapv3.pdf) to include a section on the Samba 2.2.x LDAP backend. But I can't find any definititive documentation on the "time" attributes: pwdLastChange, pwdMustChange. Either how the time is encoded or exactly what they mean. I've seen post saying they are hexidecimal (although they don't look it)

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little confused as to what is the best approach. Oh

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

Re-doing tdbsam
Running Samba 3.x with tdbsam. Its a small nework of 4 Windwos XP machines. Having a little trouble adding the machines to the domain. pdbedit shows duplication machines names and such. Since its such a small number of machines, want to just start over with a fresh tdbsam as it seems faster then trying to clean it up. Can we just delete the existing tdbsam? Stop and restart Samba and

Are tdbsam and smbpasswd linked?
Hi All, I just added three users to my tdbsam with "pdbedit -a -u username" (had to do "useradd" first). All three appeared in tdbsam as they should, as verified with "pdbedit -L". But, all three also appeared in /etc/samba/smbpasswd. This is not a mistake, they were not there before. Are "tdbsam" and "smbpasswd" linked? I am confused.

Migration from samba_dsdb to tdbsam.
While trying to resolve the loss of prefix for full_audit, I attempted to update from Samba 4.3.9 to 4.4.5. Its a very simple environment, standalone server running on i386 built from source. After performing the build and installation, I was informed that passdb backend = samba_dsdb was no longer supported, so I commented out the line, to find which default I should use. testparm advises it

tdbsam.
The documentation says "As a general guide, the Samba Team does not recommend using the tdbsam backend for sites that have 250 or more users". Since we moved default passbd backend to tdbsam, does that statements still holds true. As an FYI, I am using Samba-3.2.4, idmap_rid with tdbsam as backend for about 3 years with 2000 users on member server configuration authenticating AD 2003.

Practical guide to migrate from tdbsam to ldapsam
Hello people! I'd like to know about a practical guide which helps to migrate users from a perfect working Samba PDC running with tdbsam backend to a new backend to LDAP. Does "pdbedit -i xxx -e xxx" make all the job? My network is growing and I need a directory service to help find people so I'd like to see a LDAP server running well with Samba without rebuild my user

create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
As some of you may know, I'm trying to set up Samba BDC on a disk- and fan-less tiny mipsel_CPU router running OpenWRT distribution. I already managed to compile Samba 3.0.21a and OpenLDAP 2.3.18 for it, and they seem to work fine. The problem is, this tiny distribution for routers doesn't seem to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd and

Simple Samba PDC - tdbsam limitations?
Hi, I'm setting up a new Samba server, and am debating between LDAP (complex, and I'm not that familiar with it) and tdbsam for the password backend... I understand the physical limitations (single PDC, no replication, etc), which is fine, since this is a small office - about 50 workstations, possibly growing to as many as 75, but no more than that. What are the limitations of the

Hi everyone, Iam quite new to Samba, Iam trying to set it up as a PDC. When I do: smbpasswd -m machine -a user I get an error message like this: tdbsam: no NUA rids available, cannot add user paulien$! Failed to add entry for user paulien$. Failed to modify password entry for user paulien$ What does this mean? I tried searching on google and some other sites, but don;t seem to find the correct

migration of PDC tdbsam backend to BDC - failed to fetch domain database
Hello According to NT4 Migration Using tdbsam Backend http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2604610 I would like to transfer PDC settings (users, groups sids) to BDC and later make from BDC PDC machine. I have Fedora Core 7 PDC(hostname serwer) and Centos 5.4 BDC (hostname serwer2) both on tdbsam backends. I have copied smb.conf, passwd, group, shadow, secrets.tdb files

tdbsam Question
Dumb question time; I can't find the answer in the Samba-3 or HOWTO docs: how do you add users to the passdb.tdb (tdbsam's db)? Is pdbedit the only way? I ask because the Chapt 3 Samba-3 example has passdb = tdbsam in the samba config file, but the instructions for adding users are to use useradd and smbpasswd, which leave passdb.tdb empty (except for root--I have no idea how that

tdbsam and variables
Dear List Members We are trying to setup samba PDC with tdbsam backend. First question: When "Home Directory" is not set in tdbsam does samba just use the setting of "logon home" in smb.conf? And when it's set does it ignore the smb.conf setting? Second question: Does tdbsam allow the inclusion of variables such as %a, %u, %H, etc.? We were looking at the "Big

What gui works with samba 3.x and tdbsam ???
I just setup a new server for a client and everything is running well. I added and setup all the users from the cli just because that's how I'm used to doing it. I tried using the samba gui that comes with CentOS 4.03 and I tried Webmin but nether one will add the user proberly to the tdbsam database. They add the user fine to the /etc/passwd file but samba does not get updated

LDAP, tdbsam, and profiles
I have a new PDC ready to replace an older one (which is using LDAP locally). The new one will be using tdbsam. I plan to first change LDAP on the existing system to the tdbsam backend and ensure proper functioning. I understand I can use the pdbedit tool to make this change. Comments? At this point I would like to ask how profiles (which will be stored locally on the clients) will be
